OK so I'm sure I'm not the only one who's noticed the severely lopsided losses... 94-10 against Oak Harbor... 73-17 against SJCC... 93-21 against Margaretta. What's going on in Tiger-town?

Same thing that happens in many volleyball first schools of that size(Galion among them). The top tier athletes play volleyball and there is little to no crossover into basketball. When you have to rely on the leftovers and castoffs from the other sports you end up with the equivalent of the US mens soccer team.

There was talk during summer Huron would not have girls basketball this year. From last years team only 2 girls returned. This year there are 3 senior first time players (two from volleyball, one from soccer) 4 junior players two of which played last year returned. About 3 sophomores and maybe 8 freshman are playing. Now the freshman girls look skilled but no experienced, I know the 8th grade has some good talent and they're winning. This year. its going to be long and bad!! I went to the first game. it was all I could do to make it till halftime. Someone will hit 100 against them, and someone will hold them under 10. It is like the old bettsville basketball . The coach is a great guy, well liked and they've had decent turnouts at home games. But the skill level is not there to win basketball games this year. At least there is a varsity and jv team although the varsity should be a jv team and most of the jv should be a frosh team. Huron has VERY FEW multi sport athletes on the girls side. I'm probably wrong but I bet its less than 20 that play more than one sport. Volleyball takes the hit because of its success. Soccer and softball can join that as well. We have kids playing club soccer, indoor track, JO volleyball. With basketball being bad. It is going to stay that way for a few years to come.

It's a shame... we a long way from that 1983 State Championship indeed.

the nice thing about this group is. yes they're getting blown out, but they show up, positive attitude, playing hard, and enjoy being together. outside of that they're very smart kids (good grades)
