I expect Jeremy Ruckert to earn a starting position as a true freshman, he's that good.

Coombs will be a painful loss to the Titans. In addition to energy and development of top-flight DB's, his impact to recruiting can't be understated.

Exciting times. Amazing how we all of a sudden have so many receiving options. Very true! Now, we have a new OC to start a new season, with Ryan Day getting promoted. My guess, he's licking his chops to get all this talent he has at his disposal, poised to give defenses nightmares. Being a QB coach in both college & pro ranks, he will view his offensive approach through the eyes of a QB. The defense will be presented with the task of replacing the DB's & DE's, we seem to do that with remarkable consistency, year in and year out.....no big concern there. With the backlog of talent at receiver & TE's, Is the offense going to have a renewed interest in passing attack mode? No question, we can run the football with Dobson & Weber. We'll put a lot on the plate for opposing defensive Coordinators.

glad that Day is coming back for another (and probably his last) season, would hate to throw a new QB Coach into an open QB competition, like they did with Tim Beck during the Cardale/Barrett competition in 2015
losing Coombs will hurt tho, this year and for years to come

I suppose throwing that extra money at Day to relinquish the 'Co' from Coordinator didn't leave enough to entice Coombs to remain.

If you recall, Cardale managed to play himself out of the starting position. I agree, Coombs departure will leave a lingering void, perhaps our top recruiter and he had some long term linkage to the Ohio State program that can't me replicated in the short term.

I don't know if Coombs' coaching style will sit well with the entitled multi-millionaires in the NFL.

The latest Heisman odds for 2018 have 2 Big Ten tailbacks as the current favorites. JK Dobbins and Wisconsin's Johnathan Taylor. There are 13 QBs in the top 25, the only Big Ten QB is Penn State's Trace McSorley. Bosa is #25

How does one play himself out of a starting position by winning every game? I recall Barrett losing to MSU when he returned. That I remember.

I wouldn't lay the blame for the MSU loss on a single player. I think the coaching of Beck & Warriner had more to do with the shortcomings of a season of high expectations.

They won when Cardale was starting. That was good. They also won with Braxton starting and also won with J.T. starting Ohio State does lose occassionally, however.

berry can’t stretch the field like ruckert can. i could see him jumping over them and starting as a freshman. but then again as long as he sees the field i’m happy with. i also would like to see Gill get on the field. I haven’t seen a better h back come through osu at his age. but freshman don’t play a lot at osu unless you’re jk dobbins or special teams. 4, I agree with what your saying that freshman usually don't get much playing time at osu or any major D-1 school unless you have a god given gift. But Urban does try to get as many in for playing time when the game is well out of hand because since his days at Utah he found out that if you are good out comes the pro scouts and then instead of finishing school off they go and declare themselves for the draft. So Urban learned to get these freshman in and start getting some experience to continually have a winning program. So look for some of these kids get that time cause you never know that after his sophomore year Dobbins might want to leave for the NFL. I like Barrett's mine, he could have goon out early but he knew that an education was more important and he stayed his years and graduated. Now that's a smart move in my opinion. OH, buy the way everybody, GO BLUE !

Dobbins can't go until after his Junior year, no red shirt. If they could go after 2, Bosa would be gone this year.

Seems just like the GOVERMENT to many rules to follow and read up on you need 4 years of college to study up on them. I'm glad in the Army we only had one rule, FOLLOW ORDERS.

The utterances of 'go bleu' and 'werthless nut' on an Ohio State Buckeye thread is both blasphemous and nutty.

Losing coaches Kerry Coombs and quite possibly Greg Schiano is a big hit for Urban Meyer, at a time when recruit signing day is upon us. My guess is, Urban is not getting much sleep, with his whirlwind, in home visits and processing potential coaching candidates.

This would definitely be a huge void to fill. I assume this was the reason to bring in Grinch as a potential backfill. I do find Schiano's current situation quite humorous considering the debacle with Tennessee. He'll get a possible chance to coach a dynasty, while watching the UT dumpster fire continue to underachieve and pander to the likes of Clay Travis and his white-hot Twitter takes.

After hearing coach Grinch speak at his first press conference, I come away rather impressed with his quick minded, intensity, his defensive mindset and although he is very young yet, he has worked with good coaches in his limited coaching resume'. He has been surrounded with good coaches like Rick Leach and Gary Pinkel. I think he will be fully capable and ready to step in as DC, when Greg Schiano leaves the program

Per reports, Dante Booker is expected to transfer after graduating this Spring. After losing Jerome Baker and Chris Worley to the NFL Draft, they'll now have to replace 3 former starting LB's. Time for the younger guys like Borland, Harrison, Browning, Jones and Hilliard to step up. Let's hope Bill Davis can get that room under control, because that group was more than a bit underwhelming this past season. Best of luck to Booker!

Borland is basically a returning starter, Booker barely played toward the end of the season. Borland will have the middle locked up and I think Browning is going to be a stud. Our lb’s were definitely underwhelming last year so maybe some new blood on the outside spots will change that.

There are reports too that Booker may not be leaving. Conflicting stories out there.

Seems as if Bucknuts has now retracted the original article on Dante Booker’s potential transfer. I had seen this reported on several sites this afternoon, most notably from Alex Gleitman of 24/7 Sports.
