I highly question there will ever be a 'Tate Martell era'. I think once Haskins moves on, another QB will be the go to guy. there is a strong chance that guy might be MSU de-commit Dwan Mathis. I have always had that gut feeling that Martell will at some point, transfer out of the program.

Sportsjock,
I too wonder... I guess my questions will go unanswered until he is at the helm. I look at the high school record and see no “L” but that makes me wonder how he will deal with the adversity of loss and losing.
His size and stature also worry me. BIG10 football is hard, punishing, and relentless. Can he make it through that, I don’t doubt him, but he is in a different ball game now compared to Las Vegas HS football.

Putting all the hype aside, I have yet to see any strong evidence he will live up to his billing. This spring, his passing accuracy was a real question mark and until we see him in game conditions, that aspect remains to be answered. If he dazzles us all, I will be his biggest cheerleader. Will Tate be content to spend his college career as a backup, I doubt it. Would rather see Joe Burrow on the sideline for sure, but that wasn't in the cards.

Think about this, Haskins keeps playing like he did in the first game, he will be the highest rated Pro QB in college football, thus he's gone. Baldwin won't get any snaps this year, he's rehabbing his knee surgery. The only other QB next year will be green out of high school. Martel is getting all of the practice snaps with the second unit. He will get all of the snaps in games with the second unit. Thinking logically, who will be the starter next year?

sportsjock, just stop. You thought JT "Noodle Arm" Barrett IV was better than Dwayne "Big Game" Haskins. Haskins, Tate Martell, and Joe Burrow were all better QB's than Barrett IV last year. The IV he had on his jersey stood for 4th best QB on the team. Tate Martell will have to wait behind Dwayne "Big Game" Haskins because Haskins is the real deal. JT "Noodle Arm" Barrett IV couldn't throw it down field. He could run the whole playbook though. lol Dwayne "Big Game" Haskins can NOT run the whole playbook because he's a PASSER not a runner. We have RB's to run it, the QB is in there to pass it. That's why JT "noodle arm" Barrett was such an annoyance to me, he was a RB playing QB. And the problem with him being a RB playing QB is that he was the 6th best RB on the team behind Weber, Dobbins, McCall, etc. So our 6th best RB on the team ball hogged it from the RB's the most obvious came in 2015 when he ball hogged it from ZEKE. Remember though, Haskins can't run the entire playbook only JT could do that. But long balls were never thrown because of his noodle arm.

Urban would have started JT "noodle arm" Barrett IV over Tom Brady because JT could run the whole playbook, while Tom Brady ran a 5.3 40 and couldn't run it. Dwayne can run it a little but he's more Tom Brady than Mike Vick. Good thing Urban got suspended or Haskins might be riding the pine right now. Urban wants a running QB.

Remember when we were told by a couple of JT IV fans on here that the receivers stink, can't get open, can't go deep and that's why JT doesn't throw it and tucks and runs so much, throws behind the line of scrimmage so much. He wasn't a ball hog with a noodle arm it's just the 4 and 5 star WR's are so bad.
I guess those 4 and 5 star WR's finally got good at getting open all over the field. "Big Game" Haskins seems to be finding open receivers all over the field, not just behind the line of scrimmage, and he doesn't need to tuck and run 15+ times a game.

Those that resort to name calling in an attempt at bolstering their argument, come off as weak. I am as impressed and pleased as anyone on Haskins, but the trash talking on J.T. is so lame and unecessary. What I especially like about Haskins is he is experiencing his childhood dream of playing for the Buckeyes. Contrary to WF's 100% assumption that Haskins will bolt for the NFL, I'm not quite so sure, think he may relish one more season in the Shoe. Another thing, barring injury, Haskins will be in the final Heisman discussion and If he isn't selected, he will at the top of the list in 019. This discussion needs to be shelved till after the bowl season and playoffs, then we can argue and speculate till the cows come home.

It is obvious, we were given an inadvertent upgrade in WR coaching, probably more than most people realize. Those 4 and 5 star receivers have another year of maturity and development under their belts.

I'm wondering why Martell is not allowed to run the ball if no one is open, He was a good runner in high school. He needs to start getting more playing time. I agree, Haskins is gone, If he don't get hurt.

Rambo Name calling is for 5 year olds, are you that young? Or that immature? Well done, you just called me a 5 year old. Do you drink irony? And where did I call someone a name? Oh, you are a JT IV fanboy so you think correctly labeling his arm as a noodle arm and correctly labeling him as a ball hog is name calling. Go check out the MSU game in 2015, that game was the epitome of ball hogging.

One more thing Birdman, don't get on here and claim question marks means you didn't call me a five year old.
Example Birdman, name calling is for trashy people, are you a piece of crap? Or a Turd Ferguson?
What? I never called you trashy, a piece of crap or a Turd Ferguson. I don't name call, that's what you did and I just said you shouldn't. End Example

Make no mistake, I was calling you a child, you are a child due to the things you write on this website. I love Barrett doesn’t mean I didn’t think at times other quarterbacks should’ve been in. But again make no mistake I called you a child, you are a child.
I shall sit and wait some more until your next comment that is fueled by whatever weird anger you have for being called a child.

As WF alluded, Martell played his prep days at the highest level, against the best in the country. Bishop Gorman is the elite program it is, because they have elite coaching leadership. Martell is way ahead of the learning curve because of it.

Willard,
That is great news I didn’t really know much about his HS career.
