If you’re in the New England area New Haven is the town to go for pizza. Sally’s and Modern are phenomenal

The most difficult part about getting pizza when I was living in New England with New Yorkers was listening to them get snoody about THEIR pizza. Nothing was good enough for them. I agree, how on EARTH could anyone figure out how to bake dough, cheese, and tomato sauce in an appealing way unless they are from New York (ugh).
Granted, I was snoody about MY football back in Ohio. To each their own.

Not sure if this has been mentioned, but Barstool Sports has a very extensive YouTube series with pizza reviews from all over the country. They have covered many major cities and college towns at this point, so you can easily find a place to check out if you are in the right area: www.youtube.com/channel/UC5PrkGgI_cIaSStOyRmLAKA

I thought this was going to be great....BUT a pizza of any kind was almost impossible to find in Italy. Who'd of thunk it!

I have heard that our country's pizza makers have put considerable spin on the original concept from Italy. Something to the extent that they consider pizza to be an appetizer in ways? It wouldn't be much different than the way we Americanized Chinese cuisine, if true.

Be snoody I will report my east coast friends have always expressed more awe about Ohio football when they came to see a Shelby/OSU game than I have expressed awe about a pizza in New England. I haven't had a "true" NY slice yet, and part of me believes that experience should include seeing a rat scamper away from a nearby dumpster as I bite into it. Until I do try some, I will give their argument a flicker of light to warm themselves with.

Spending some time way down in southern Ohio in Portsmouth just had to post about the pizza we had last night. We went to Belini Cucina Italian Restaurant in Portsmouth, got to say it was a fantastic pizza. Only thing bad I can say about it is that it would be about a three hour trip back. But if you ever down here this spot is great. One of the best I have had in quite some time. Buddy says later this week we will try a couple of their favorites, will report back later.

I think what has always set Napoli's apart from others is the corn meal base and of course, genuine hand tossed pizza. Your talking about Napoli's in Shelby or Tiffin. They are completely differnent. I don't believe there is any relationship between the two. Sure doesnt taste like there is, I have had both Shelby is much better.

Heard the Purple Indian in Mt Gilead is reopening. It did. Owner got the old sauce recipe from the old owners, and it kicks *** again. Crust was terrific, toppings were really good. Just my experience....

Tried Reino's Pizza in Tiffin Saturday. Very good and will return. They have their own bakery across the street to make their sub buns and tiramisu. They looked like great sub buns and will try those one day here soon.

Originating in 1956, housed in a refitted filling station on the corners of East and East Sandusky and eventually expanding to Trenton Ave, Tiffin, Fremont, Sandusky and Shelby.

We tried Fred’s Pizza seams to be a local favorite down here with locations in Portsmouth, Wheelersburg, and Waverly. We tried the Portsmouth location. We also tried Giovanni’s Pizza neither are anything special and neither was as near as good as Belini Cucina. Locals we were visiting acted like they never thought to try the pizza at Belini’s, being an Italian Restaurant they always got pasta when they went there. I would skip Fred’s and get pizza at Belini Cucina’s hands down better.

Interesting, I'll have to try this Belini Cucina’s sometime wheb I'm down there. Never heard of it.
I've been to the both of the Scioto County Fred's locations and several Giovanni's locations many times in my life.

So it sounds like these are or were related to one another that's interesting. I know the Shelby and Tiffin location are night and day in taste unlike most chains being fairly similar at each location. I prefer Shelby’s.

Had pizza at Dicarlos in Hillard today. Came in sheet form with fresh cheese sprinkled on top. It was different, probably the most crunchy pizza we've ever had. Not my top choice but worth checking out.

Driving up route 4 stopped in a little town called Milford Center. We tried a pizza at their local pizza joint Panther Pizza. Didn’t even know they had a pizza place. I thought it was pretty good.

My son recently received an Ooni Koda 16 outdoor pizza oven. The thing gets to 950* and gets the pizza nice and crispy. He loves it and I'm intrigued. Going his way this w/e to try it before I make a $500 pizza oven purchase. Anyone heard of the Ooni brand?

Ok here is a favorite of mine I only get once a year Puglisi’s Pizza. They set up a trailer at the Richland County Fair. Talked to them last night told them I can remember getting slices of pizza from them since I was a teenager, that’s been a few years ago. Asked them how long they have been sitting up at the fair and he told me 41 years. They are set up this year across from the pony barn. The pony barn is a few barns down from the smelly chicken barn. Go out to the fair and have a good time and maybe try a slice of Puglisi’s. They are back at the Richland County fair this week, better go try it.

Very nice gadget. Cooks at 950* and takes like 90 seconds to finish a pizza. Nice crispy crust with those dark crispy bubbles around the outer edge. I can see a purchase in my future. Check the out ooni.com/

Stopped at Brumby’s Pizzeria in Bellville. Nice building, good atmosphere but they need to work on the pizza. The sauce was really bad. Fast Eddies’s just down the road is much better. Brumby’s is also a coffee house. Hope that is better, we didn’t try it.
