Notes from BTN bus tour stop in Columbus.
Most impressive player, Junior Raekwon McMillan. "A living breathing NFL player who is still in college."
Most impressive newcomer. 6-7 320 true Freshman Michael Jordon. Will start on the O-line in game one. The last time that happened at Ohio State was Orlando Pace.
Top specimen. "Impossible not to notice 6-5 266 Soph, Sam Hubbard, who looks primed for stardom." He arrived on campus as a Strong Safety.
True Freshman QB Dwayne Haskins looks very impressive. After J.T., is getting the most snaps. Urban says he has the best throwing mechanics of any Freshman he's ever seen.
On the 2nd day of practice scouts from the Steelers, Eagles, Lions, Browns and Colts were in attendance. If you want to be seen by NFL scouts go to Ohio State.

Sam Hubbard has to have a unique and in-depth knowledge and perspective defensively, seeing a number of positions in his young career with the Buckeyes. Think he has seen DE, LB, Safety and some down lineman duty. Imagine a DE that thinks like a safety? Not many screens coming his way I would think.
Isn't Dwayne Haskins billed mostly as a pro-style QB? He does have wheels as well.
Michael Jordan is a beast and could be one of the best to play the position when he moves on to the league.

Hubbard also saw time at TE in his first year at Ohio State.
Urban says EVERY QB he recruits must be an athlete. He MUST be able to scramble away from the pass rush and at the least extend plays looking down field for a receiver to come open. The offense Hawkins played in high school was a Pro style offense. Doesn't mean he can't learn the read option. He is more than athletic enough to play QB in Urban's offense.

A factoid produced by the BTN. The best Big Ten teams from the past 25 years. SEVEN of the top twelve are Ohio State teams, ONE of the top 12 is a Michigan team.

Ohio State football is the most indistructable program in all sports, college and Pro. Only once in the past 50 years did Ohio State have back to back seasons of .600 or worse. No one else can say that.

I just realized that Hooker and Samuel are in their third year at Ohio State. They're gone.
After the first week of college football Vegas has 'Bama 4-1to win the National Title, followed by Ohio State at 5-1

If the Buckeyes can find it in themselves to stay in the win column each week, things are shaping up nicely in their favor. Ranked #6 for starters, with opening day losses by #3 Oklahoma, #5 LSU and further back in the ranks is #10 Notre Dame, #16 UCLA and #20 USC essentially erasing themselves from the playoff picture. Attrition is asserting itself from the get go.

A lot of talent....
Young roster but have veterans at key positions (QB most importantly).

Urban already said he this is the fastest team he has had at Ohio State, perhaps the fastest of any of his teams in his coaching career.
Playing without starting LB Dante Booker, Jerome Baker had his shining moment vs. the Sooners. Jerome Baker is not going to the bench quite so easily when Oho State returns to the field vs. Rutgers. Joe Burger had a solid game as well.
All week long we heard all the hype on how Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield was going to be a pain in the rear all night long for the Buckeye defense, comparing him to Johnny Manziel and other college standouts. Turns out, it was a frustrating evening for Baker Mayfield, faced with the menacing Buckeye defensive front and superb pass coverage by the young Buckeye DB's. Turns out, not having the services of lockdown corner Gareon Conley was not a problem and Urban was able to display the depth of his young and talented defensive backfield.
Losing 16 starters usually cuts the heart out of a team, but the depth and quality of talent possessed by the Buckeyes is being recognized and appreciated by those throughout the college football world.

Vegas odds of Ohio State winning the National Title is now 4-1, 2nd only to Alabama's 7-2. Louisville is 3rd at 13-2.

The media is having a love fest with Louisville and their prolific QB Lamar Jackson this young season. Sure, they beat Florida State, who everyone was picking to be in the final four. Florida State is still the same ole Florida State, they manage to lose at least two they were expected to win and stubb their toe on one or two others. There was bright projections last year and they lost to GT, Miami and Clemson and got kicked around in the Chik-Fil-A bowl (Peach Bowl) by Houston We don't really know how average the Seminoles may be at this point.
All the excitement and hype on Louisville may come to fizzle at Clemson or at Houston. Both should be great games to watch, but I expect them to stumble in at least one of those matchups. Don't forget, the Cardinals lost 5 games last year with the Jackson at QB.
When it all gets down to the final nitty gritty of sorting out who will be in the final four, there won't be any accommodation for more than one non-power five team.
I suspect Michigan is a bit over-rated at this point, time will expose their mix in things when they play Wisconsin, Michigan State and finally Ohio State. Maybe 'Booger' will lose another one for them in dramatic fashion like the epic loss in East Lansing. That kept the Buckeyes out of the final four IMO.

I would presume that maybe this was just the gods smiling down upon Louisville for a day, but he did look pretty indomitable on the field (I watched quite a bit of the game too...) Final four??? That remains to be seen. OSU is so young and although they looked good against OU, I'm not putting any eggs into any basket yet... if they get thru the season unscathed, then I will be a little more willing to look at OSU for the final four. Michigan? I still blow my nose at them.... I fart in their general direction!! Their fathers were hamsters and their mothers smelt of.......elderberries...! Lot of football left to be played is all I'll say on that front.

i don't think anyone respects Bobby Petrino, he is kind of a self-serving scumbag Lol.......I've heard that to. Now I see the humor, you had to spell it out for me. These young Buckeyes are starting to pile up the weekly awards. This week our Aussie punter got the 'Ray Guy award' and Noah Brown and Jerome Baker got the 'Big Ten Players of the Week' awards. Jerome Baker and Jabril Peppers shared the "Co-Defensive Players of the Week award"....both are sophomores. Offensive Player of the Week Noah Brown, Ohio State So., WR, Flanders, N.J./ Pope John XXIII •Tied a school record with four touchdown receptions to spark the Buckeyes to a road victory over Oklahoma •Hauled in touchdown receptions from 4, 3, 21 and 8 yards out •Also set personal bests for receptions (five) and receiving yards (72) •Claims the first Offensive Player of the Week award of his career •Last Ohio State Offensive Player of the Week: J.T. Barrett (Sept. 5, 2016) Co-Defensive Players of the Week Jabrill Peppers, Michigan So., LB/DB, East Orange, N.J./Paramus Catholic •Recorded 3.5 tackles for loss against Colorado, including one sack, to increase his nation-leading total to 9.5 tackles for loss •Finished the game with nine tackles, including six solo stops •The sack was the second of his career •Earns his first career Defensive Player of the Week honor •Last Michigan Defensive Player of the Week: Mike McCray (Sept. 5, 2016) Jerome Baker, Ohio State So., LB, Cleveland, Ohio/ Benedictine •Returned a first-quarter interception 68 yards to give the Buckeyes a 14-0 lead at Oklahoma •Finished the game with seven tackles, including 1.5 sacks •Recorded the fourth pick-six of the year for the Ohio State defense, matching the school record for interception returns for a touchdown in a single season (1987 and 1996) •Claims his first career Defensive Player of the Week accolade •Last Ohio State Defensive Player of the Week: Vonn Bell (Nov. 9, 2015

Lot of football left to be played is all I'll say on that front. You know, I viewed the Louisville/Florida State game in it's entirety last evening. Despite the lopsided score, it was not a dominating play by Louisville so much as a very slow reacting, poor tackling, sloppy effort by the Seminole defense. The game in general was rather sloppily played by both sides. If you watch the actual game in it's entirety and not just the flashy highlights, you soon start shaking your head and muttering....'man, this is a sloppy and poorly played football game , with flashes of athletic brilliance thrown in between. Lamar Jackson had some badly thrown passes and passes that were on the money that should have been caught and then dropped. After studying the game, I have zero doubt, the Seminoles should be totally ruled out of any playoff discussion, even if they win out. Louisville, I will reserve final judgement after they play better opponents in Houston and Clemson. Neither team played particularly well in my estimation. Watch the game for yourself in it's entirety (minus the commercials and time-outs) and you be the judge

YEP, they're piling up at Ohio State. SIX 5* are committed for 2017 another 5 have Ohio State at the top of their list or on their short list.
Browning's reasoning could be. McMillan will leave early, Hillard was his back up. Browning plans on enrolling early and with Hillard's injury(his 2nd Bicep injury) gives Browning reason to believe he could start next year. In Urban's NFL high draft choice program.

Reports from several sources say Danny Clark is ready to flip to Kentucky. I am surprised he stuck with his OSU commitment as long as he did.
If in fact, Danny makes the move, I wish him well. Of course. the good part is, another coveted spot freed up for the several 5* recruits eye-ing the Buckeyes. Expect Urban's stellar 2017 recruiting class to finish with a few exclamation points.

An interesting quote from Urban about this football team. "To who much is given, much is expected".
Is he talking about the players, who have so much God given abilities? Is he talking about his staff who has been given so many great players. Is he talking about himself who has been given so much from Ohio State? We know what is expected of all. The pressure that comes with what's "expected" is a priority going forward for the head coach with the Psychology Degree.

The pressure that comes with what's "expected" is a priority going forward for the head coach with the Psychology Degree. We must remember, Urban Meyer is a man of faith, exhibiting himself as such in his leadership of young men and his life off the field. Urban abstains from the use of profanity in his conduct on and off the field. A devotee to his Catholic faith, but not one to wear his religion on his sleeve. To him, it is a very private and personal commitment. Nonetheless, little hints of who he is reveal themselves occasionally. In this case "To whom much is given, much is expected" is a basic parable from Luke 12:48 The original parable actually reads "For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall, much be required" The Bible says that those who have been given more than others (on earth) are expected to do more with their resources.

I think that is Coach Meyers greatest attribute, his faith. He has created something at Ohio State that many program wish they could have or obtain. I had the chance to meet him once and his presence alone demands respect and dignity in it. It is no surprise that the buckeyes are doing so well under his tenure at Ohio State. Being a buckeye guy it is a great thing to win, but even more than that it is a great thing to see those young men come from far and wide to succeed not just at football, but succeed in their education and development into a man.
Coach Meyer is the best thing to ever happen to Ohio State in my short 29 years of following the Buckeyes. It is becoming very apparent that if you want to go to the league, win a national championship, and receive a top notch degree from a great school you come to Columbus, OH. I like their odds to not only win the east division, but win the Big10, and take it all the way to the college national championship, and boy would it be nice to knock the socks off Alabama again!!! GO BUCKS!!!! OH-IO!!!

I meant Coach Meyers when he was at Bowling Green and I took my 2 sons to one of his camps along with a couple of my players. I was really infatuated with him on the way he ran his camps by getting to meet each an every kid that he could. He spent time at each an every station showing the kids how they should to it this way. He made sure his coaches and players there that they should not be using bad language and they should be helping the kids and not to gather around in groups. That first day I had a feeling he was going to higher places.

Curtis Samuel currently has 260 yards rushing and 259 receiving. If this production continues through the remaining 10 regular season games, plus a potential game 14 and 15. He could go over 1000 in each category. Only 2 players in NFL history accomplished this, Marshall Faulk and Craig James, they did it in 16 games.
In Percy Harvin's best year at Florida, he had 764 rushing and 858 receiving yards. If Samuel goes past those numbers, the H-back in Urban's offense could no longer be called the "Percy Harvin Position". How would the "Curtis Samuel Position" sound?
