Spire Academy is scheduled to play in Vermilion's tip-off tournament on 11/30 & 12/1 (Spire vs Bay and Vermilion vs Oberlin on the first night). With LaMelo Bell supposedly enrolling at Spire, does anything prohibit him from playing OHSAA teams?

Nothing prohibits them from playing against OHSAA teams, but they will not be aloud to compete in the OHSAA State Tournament, which is good for them because they would be taken down by the Tigers if they did.

GO Tigers With Jah Leh transferring to your hometown Margaretta, I find the Tigers having a difficult time putting together any successful string of basketball this season.

Breaking news from Huron:
Former 2 sport standout and infamous All-Ohio snub Jared Hohler will return back for the Tigers after being granted another year of eligability from the OHSAA. Of course, we all remember his senior year was taken away from him after being found guilty for shooting a banded bird. He averaged around 20 ppg as a junior and led the Tigers to a SBC Title. He also threw for 1500 yards and rushed for 300.

And don't forget Vermilion has a new transfer 7'2 Jerry Tallman who reminds me of Kevin Durant and Steph Curry mixed together on their best day. Tallman shot 68% from 3 and averaged 52 pts 11 rebs a game at Fairfacts Junior High last year as an 8th grader. He is a tri-sport athlete as he high jumps 7'6", long jumps 24', runs the 100 in 10.8 and the mile in 4:45, and let's not forget in the fall he golfs and had 3 hole in ones this year. His dad has been working him hard since 3rd grade making him take "clean" supplements so he's already built like a brick. I saw him lifting the other day and he was benching 420 lbs and squatting 590 lbs. His true passion is ping pong but local schools don't offer it as a sport.

Just in, Bobby James son, Sammy James will be an assistant coach this year for the tigers. This is a great add as Sam was a key factor in multiple SBC championships. Jared Hohler returning is huge and will be highly recruited because he is a top 5 shooter in the state ( both in the woods and on the hardwood ). With Jah Leh is questionable just because he can't stay off the drugs, but with him they are a state contending squad. I am very excited to see the tigers wee wee buckets this season.

Jared Hohler has stellar defense, but without the presence of his hands after the necrotic fashion of the weasel flu took to him, I can only see him dragging down Huron's prospects. Dump, this ought to help your Polar Bears capture the season series over Huron.

Obviously dump and his alter egos didn't get a vote in this poll. But I head shelbyrr got in a back door and cast an illegal ballot that moved Huron ahead of Port Clinton.

Even though it was an illegal vote, it was made possible because I actually have credible connections to these type of things. All Dump can claim is a profound anger problem. Mike is busy laying hay down for his girlf-I mean donkey.
For the sake of adding credible conversation though, I watched Vermilion play in the Sectional Semis and Finals last year. I remember there was not a lot of height on that team (barring injury), but they may have had a younger pfeil (spelling) player other than the senior? The older one was definitely a playmaker. I have not witnessed any of these other teams play nor know the player situations they are coming into.

Vermilion has 5 senior letter winners returning, including Mason Montgomery (6'3" all-SBC wing) and Jonah (the younger) Pfeil. They were missing their big man and best rebounder due to injury during last year's tournament (Luke Pena), and he's also back. The key for the Sailors will be how quickly and how well Seth Hurd (PG) recovers from the broken ankle/foot he suffered playing QB early in the football season.
Again this year, their non-conference schedule is pretty rugged:
Oberlin SPIRE Academy or Bay Elyria Catholic Bellevue Clyde Firelands Perkins Clearview

With all due respect, nothing from that collection spells "rugged." I could be mistaken, though.

I'm new to the forum so be easy on me. I've seen willard play and ill put everyone on notice that they CAN be really good. Athletes that can run and jump with any school. Also have shooters in bAldridge and Parrott. We also have a freshman in trey Paxton, that will be the point guard by years end. Plays real good d and passes the ball extremely well. The only question, is chemistry. Once the coaches and kids gell the team could surprise the area. If coaches can't win with this team then they should retire.

LaVar was there and the place was packed with a line wrapped around the outside of the school an hour before the first game tip-off.
Spire beat Bay 103-68. Vermilion up by 11 over Oberlin at halftime led by Montgomery with 19. Hurd is back from his football injury. Looks healthy but a little rusty.
Vermilion beats Oberlin 76-58, led by Montgomery with 31 points.
Tomorrow night Sailors play Spire led by LaMelo Ball and at least three other D1 recruits. But by no means do they qualify as a rugged non-conference opponent.

So is Spire playing all around or mainly in Ohio?? Could google but I’ll just ask here???

I think they’re playing everywhere but appear to be starting in Ohio. Played Garfield Hts earlier in the week and playing SVSM in a few days.
Spire leads Vermilion 49-41 at the half. They’re kind of playing on autopilot because they know they an and still win, but Sailors not backing down. After a frantic start they’re settling down, dealing pretty well with the full court pressure and knocking down open shots.
Spire wins 102-75. Next-level talent wins comfortably but Sailors didn’t embarrass themselves at all. Montgomery had 31 again tonight for Vermilion. Kid is fearless.

Vermilion over PC 35 - 17 at the half, and 52 - 29 after Q3. 63 - 40 Final. Montgomery with 25 to lead the way.

Tigers easily down the Oak harbor rockets in OH, who many of you projected to win the league. The tigers looked good, and led from wire to wire. The tigers will continue to silence the doubters all season long, doing so with out two or their top 5 guys, who they will get back next week. Watch out. Revert back to my initial post on this thread. Tigers have and will remain the class of Sbc basketball

Decent start to the year for the Tigers especially considering Jah Leh has yet to suit up. I'm told his return to the hardwood is imminent. Next up for the Tigers I believe is Margeretta. Huron will need to slow down Austin Spicer if they hope to win this one. Spicer is one of the most talented players in the area. If Jah can play in this one it would be huge for the Tigers as I think Jah size and athleticism could go a long way in helping check spicer. Not to mention the added scoring punch.

Things about to get interesting in the Bay, early scores indicate Vermilion, Margaretta, Huron, Oak Harbor, and Willard are top 5, followed by Edison and Port Clinton. My hunch is Margaretta is better than most thought, Huron has potential but probably wont fulfill it, Vermilion is the favorite as predicted, Willard still an unknown, and Oak Harbor is confusing. By the end of the month, we'll have a better feel for "who's who" in the bay division.

I don't put much stock in pre season rankings. Especially this year considering Hurons Jah Leh who hasn't played since he was a freshman is out for basketball. In middle school Jah was thought by many to be the next star for Huron on the hardwood before giving up basketball to focus on football and track for a few years. Two of my close associates in the college basketball scouting world Chip Simmons (USC) and Larry Templeton (Louisville) have expressed their interest to me in coming to Jah play. Let's hope he stays off p. I. $ s and can produce for the Tigers this year.

C5,,,how did we look vs carey? First half we looked pretty solid. Carey was better than I expected. Their big kid was much better than I expected. Not having Baldridge hurt us in that regard, however, Dawson and Triplett did pretty well defending him. Second half turnovers hurt us some, and Carey starting banging 3's pretty consistently. Cooper didnt get much help in the 2nd half on the offensive end, he played pretty well. All in all, a good win for us considering we didnt have Baldridge. A little puzzled by the 40+ points in the first half and only 20+ in the 2nd.
