Finally time to start the football season! The Seccaium Park trophy up for grabs to the winner. Galion has held the trophy since 2009 and is 12-8 in the 20 previous meetings since the trophy was created. Thoughts.....

I'm going with Galion, why I don't know. We haven't showed we can play with anyone yet. I just feel we will somehow "eeekkk" out a win. At home..crowd will be fired up. I'm hoping that fires us up for a win. I heard Bucyrus has 2 pretty good quarterbacks, which will probably give us fits. I'm just praying for a win. Hopefully this is a game our offense can show a heartbeat.

If we lose to Bucyrus the entire coaching staff needs to resign and we should just forfeit the season.

Galion, that is hilarious!! I look for Galion to win something along the lines of 42-14

Well I haven't seen us score more than 2 touchdowns in any game/scrimmage, so we better reach down and pull up some motivation and have a great week of practice. I would be sooooooooooooooooo (did I stress that enough?)surprised if we could put up 42 points. I know once our offense starts clicking, I could honestly see us putting up 60 points on a team. I know we have the receivers to do it. But we, from what I've seen, are no where near that point yet.

How was Shelby . I see Madison losing to them. I think Madison has the better athletes but our line is terrible

How? Didn't they beat you last year? They have virtually everybody back. You already know what they have.

I see you guys losing to Shelby. Shelby looked very good. Big receivers, good tackling defense. Shelby doesn't have a HUGE line, but they get good penetration. They can be beat though. You have to bait their quarterback into interceptions. He does make mistakes. Madison will have to capitalize on his mistakes. Plus you have to contain his scrambling or it will be a long game for you guys. I predict the score will be Shelby 38 - Madison 21.

I believe we will lose to. However I think somewhere around a 28-14 score

If anyone thinks we are going to steam-roll Bucyrus, you better be very cautious, because I don't see. I sure hope I'm wrong. I watched their game against Cardington on HUDL. Yes it was a blowut, but honestly it could have been 21-21 in the 1st quarter if the QB would have hit that wide open receiver and not thrown that careless interception that got run back. Bucyrus don't look bad at all. Cardington (our 2nd opponent) is a very good team. Soooo lets tone down the hype that this is going to be blowout, go out there and play good sound football and see if we can't get a win. I'm pulling for my boys. It's going to be a good game. We just need a win. I honestly don't care if its by just 3 points.

We better beat Bucyrus by a lot more than 3 points in our house if you want to have a prayer of getting to 5 wins.

Honestly, the Shelby and Madison results don't bother me much. They were what I kind of expected. With the possible exception of JA those should easily be the best teams we face this season. I was, however, hoping to compete with Centerberg a little better than we did. I am hoping that we were playing king of vanilla with our new system and not giving future opponents the opportunity to prepare for everything we have already. I guess we will find out on Friday.

The Shelby one bothered me. One that's the high school I graduated from, I wanted a better performance. I knew our defense would struggle against them. I under estimated the effect of our line would have on our offensive performance. I thought we would be able to move the ball against anyone. We have our best receiver back. We got like 2-3 other very capable receivers. We didn't move the ball at all against Shelby. We should have. That really worries me for this Friday.
My concern is how do we put up big numbers this week. Bucyrus is not a world beater of course, but I saw them move the ball up and down the field on Cardington last week..the first 2 series. They looked good. Their quarterback struggles throwing at times though. He's a decent runner though. Now Cardington did about the 4th series just started blasting the Bucyrus's offensive line. Almost on every play and Bucyrus fell apart. I don't think we are at the same level that Cardington is at right now. Now we have a strong performance against Bucyrus that will help out a lot..cause we have Cardington next week. Good lord!

Several points
1.Cardington most likely did not gameplan to play Bucyrus. They were most likely getting ready for their first week(s) opponent. Teams rarely waste valuable practice and prep time for a scrimmage.
2. Football 101: As your o line goes so goes your offense. Now I will grant you that Barnett probably made our line look better last season than they actually were but they were light years better than this unit so far. Also, we don't have Barnett anymore to take the bullseye off our qb.
3. Our best and most consistent receivers from last season graduated.

Well Galion, I would hope our line was better last year then this year. Our line (on both sides) last year were all seniors and probably averaged 260 lbs. Our biggest guy on our line this year is a transfer who didn't even play last year. Barnett made everyone look better last year, but our line was very good last year also. That was a good group of boys.
I can't disagree or agree with you on our best receiver graduated...Fryer and Barnett were good. I will agree with you on the most consistent graduated though. Moore didn't get thrown to enough. He should have been Chase's #1 guy last year..standing at 6'4" and with his leaping ability. But he never got involved like he was in our 7-on-7 competitions. I heard a lot of rumors on why he wasn't, but I take them as such...rumors. Harrison Ivy dropped a couple of passes last year, but he more than made up for it. The kid isn't that tall, but he's fast and he gets open. He's going to be force this year. Watch! I thought overall Harrison Ivy was our best deep threat last year. Barnett and Fryer caught easy short and mid range passes and had speed. Now Barnett did catch one across the middle and one deep that were amazing catches. He was a very good receiver. I'll agree with you on that one.

Not only were both sides of the line made up of seniors, but their back ups for the most part were also seniors. We have 2 linemen, maybe, that saw any varsity time at all and even that was limited. It's going to take some time for this group to gel and get acclimated to the speed and complexities of varsity football.

I tell you something...Galion...I saw our 1st team defense and 1st team offense tonight. We looked A LOT better tonight then we have the other 2 times I have watched practice. Had I think 3 interceptions in about 12 plays, and I didn't see any incompletions either. If they can do that against Bucyrus, they will be in a good position to win that game. So we will see.....

Practice? We're talking about practice? No seriously, that sounds nice but how does the 1 O play against the 1 D when you have kids going both ways? To paraphrase an episode of Coach of course we looked good in practice when we have mediocre talent playing against other mediocre talent. Hopefully that trend continues against Bucyrus.

Well sometimes...I honestly wonder if you are really a Galion fan, "mediocre talent...hopefully that trend continues against Bucyrus..." Geesh! Have some faith in our team. You have to start some place looking good at. If you don't look good at practice (and they haven't I watched three so far)when do you start looking good? The 7th game of the season? I want them to look good in game 1 and build on it. What do you think?

I want them to look good in game 1 and build on it. What do you think? As a former o lineman I can tell you that the odds of 5 new starters gelling by week 1 and "looking good" are very slim. Now being that it is Bucyrus not Shelby I will grant you that they should look much better. But right now they have scrimmaged good opponents and should definitely be ready to start the season. At this point it all comes down to character. How do they react to struggling against good competition? Will they build on what they've learned and grow and improve? Or have they lost all of their self confidence and be ready to fold at the first sign of adversity? We find out tomorrow. To answer your question yes I'm a Galion fan. Actually by using the word "mediocre" I was trying to be kind. We are not world beaters right now. If we were any better than mediocre we'd beaten Centerberg or at least played with them. All of these kids knew going in that they had big shoes to fill with high expectations in them. They aren't stupid, they know they have a long way to go.

If you are expecting Bucyrus to "roll over" because mighty Galion is on the field ........... Let us wait till 11 pm Friday night before tossing dirt on Bucyrus's grave . I think the Redmen will get a win .

My prediction is a close game, but the Galion faithful will see a team much different than the one they saw last Friday night against Shelby. I definitely know Bucyrus won't roll over for Galion. If Galion goes in over-confident and Bucyrus scores a couple of quick touchdowns and our offense sputters; it's gonna be a long and disappointing night for Galion in front of our home crowd. But opening night, new helmets, hungry crowd, they will find a way to win. I think you are going to be surprised. We will see. I can't wait!!!!

I think the Redmen will get a win . Who said that Bucyrus is going "to roll over"? The result of this game is going to come down to what it always comes down to. How well does Galion decide to play tonight? I said it at the beginning of the thread if we lose to Bucyrus the entire staff needs to resign and we should just forfeit the season. I was not joking nor being sarcastic. I also find it interesting that there are 7 votes for Bucyrus on here but only one of you had the balls to pick them in the pick 'em contest. And it wasn't Cowtown.

Hats off to the Galion Tigers . Nice solid win to get ready for the MOAC. Me not joining the MOAC pick contest is really not a test of my manhood is it galion ? I did however in front of all who read this forum pick Bucyrus to win. Just look 5 posts up from this one . Sorry if it was not an "official " pick .
