Both of my boys played during the summer in Ontario. They were contact days. All coaches coached. There were no refs or clocks. They played to a certain score. Once the team got to that score someone on the winning team had to hit a free throw to really win (simulate game pressure). If they didn’t their score dropped to a set score and play resumed. They rotated teams so everyone played each team multiple times. Saw this done, but scores were kept on the scoreboard. How else did they know when the designated score was reached and what the score was dropped to? If no one made a free throw, it wouldn't go on for ever.

For 4 years my son went to Ontario for open gyms and for 3 of them I drove him because he could not travel with the team or else it was considered a contact day. in those 4 years of playing open gyms at Ontario, the clock was never on, there was never a ref and nobody ever kept score other than the teams playing. Some coaches did coach but some just watched. The younger kids played in the gym by the pool and the older kids played in the main gym using both courts. In 4 years I never saw one ref, scorekeeper or clock operator. I don't get it. You had to drive your son. He couldn't travel with the team. How did the team get there? Why was your son singled out and not allowed to travel with the team? That would NOT be one of the allowed 10 contact days. Those have specific schools invited, ALL coaches coach, there are usually officials, time and score is kept. What you describe that took place, sounds like a true open gym, EXCEPT coaches shouldn't be coaching. Our coach did not use this as a contact day, like many other over the years. Their were never refs, no clocks turned on and no scorekeeper. Just basketball being played. Not all coaches are active in coaching at these events. Some are there to watch. If the kids want to play they find their own way there.

Different schools played each other and when was decided by the Ontario coach. but no refs and no clocks used. Played to 10 or 11 and a foul shot wins it. It was called open gym but it was organized and scripted by Ontario coach.

Ok.... let’s move on. What are some first big opening game matchups? Season will be here in a few weeks. I think Thursday, November 29 is opening night. List big games and dates if you have them. Thanks.

Lexington at Clear Fork on Thursday 11/29. Lexington at Shelby on Saturday 12/1. Unless football playoffs cause postponement.

Thanks. BV opens with Hayes. Pre sale tickets on sale 2 weeks early at school. Gym can't hold all that will come. Hayes gym was packed last yr and it holds I'd say 300 or more than BV. On 30th

Galion's first scrimmage is tomorrow against Mansfield Sr. That seems real soon for just starting last week. But I guess when you run contact during the no contact period you can get ahead.

Including Ontario with organized teams invited and no refs and no use of the clock or a score keeper. Get over your problems and trying to call them out as a violation when your own supported team does the same.

A coach can tell his players about an event and they can show up on their own and play and not have it count. As many do to the open gyms that Ontario schedules. A coach can stand and watch if he wants to. No contact.

YES THEY DO. If a coach is hosting a contact day, invites schools to participate and they come. It MUST count as one of their contact days also.
Why are you so confused on the basic rules??

One of the rules states that if it is an open gym a single school only cannot be invited and doors are closed to keep all others out. Unlike you, I don't care what schools might be fudging the rules, Grow up!

When I asked what was happening a parent said the kids wanted to go and the coach already had his summer contact days laid out. The kids or parents drove themselves to get play and a Dad sat and watched from the bench while the players would sub in and out when tired. Happened all day but did not get used as a contact day for the team.

Pleasant looked pretty good in their 3 way scrimmage with Lima Perry and West Jeff last Saturday. They are vertically challenged this year but they can all shoot the three and drive and finish at the hoop.

A friend of mine who’s nephew plays for North Union said BV came in last night for a scrimmage and laid the hammer down. From what he told me in short, BV looked really good with lots of depth at all positions. Any other info on this scrimmage?

Galion lost every quarter except one in their scrimmage with Mansfield Sr.
In the scrimmage with Lexington and Bellevue they beat Lexington every quarter except one and lost every quarter to Bellevue except maybe one. Apparently Bellevue beat them pretty bad. Obviously Lexington didn't have their football players or cross country runner yet.

Why would he go to Ontario just to high jump?? He couldn't play basketball or high jump for Ontario, unless his family moved to Ontario.... recently
I know this for certain, he wasn't at Ontario's first scrimmage.
