Yes the ALL State selections can be a farce sometimes. The girl from Oak harbor getting 1st team ahead of Wiers does seem kinda strange,,especially if you saw the head to head matchup. Same thing happened to Laura Danhoff of Willard in 2012. The coaches and media voted her Honorable Mention. I felt it was underwhelming because I knew how good Laura was,,,and the validation came in the form of being a 3 Time All American in her college career.
I'm convinced that if your school is consistently very good,,the individual awards get sent your way at a higher level and more frequently.

Yep.. the longer your school name hangs around the better you are recognized. I think missing the first three weeks didnt help any.. but still.. she shouldve been first team all ohio... in my book anyways.. im also stumped by the fact that knupke from perkins didnt get anything at all, and she was first team all district... vogel of bellevue getting only honorable mention.. the worst part of this is..when you go to state all star matches and watch some of the ones from other parts of the state that land a spot on 1st team and think... i have jv players that good... i think Oak harbor girl was deserving. but here is another food for thought...what should all ohio be based on? stats alone? because we have kids for example that didnt play an entire three sets. we went the entire year with 1 5 setter.. and only a couple 4 setters.. hard to build stats that way.. with that in mind..the coach has to be creative, clever to gain respect for his / her players...

I was surprised that none of the girls from Holy Name got on there either. I was super impressed with their Setter and Libero. Those two girls make that team go,,,and obviously looking at their schedule,,they were playing top shelf teams all season long.

Knupke was first team all district all four years of high school I believe. Her size doesn’t show it but she can hold her own. It all just comes down to the poll voters and who they believe had the better years, maybe some go off of pure stats, maybe some take into account competition played or just pure name of program. It happens with every sport that players get snubbed.
