With 13:00 left in the 2nd quarter Maryland's RB has 214 yards rushing. Will he rush for 800 yards today?
I hope we win today and next Saturday vs Michigan. But please leave us out of the playoff.

Oh and he's averaging over 30 yards a carry. OSU's defense helps average players produce legendary performances

On every play why do the linebackers run up to the line of scrimmage and take themselves out of the play?

With 3 minutes left in the 2nd quarter 10 Alabama 7 The Citadel
The Citadel has the ball and is driving. In Alabama territory right now, inside the 30.
The Citadel plays better defense than Ohio State. It's not going to happen but what if Bama lost to the Citadel. Does Alabama still get the automatic playoff bid?

On every play why do the linebackers run up to the line of scrimmage and take themselves out of the play? Bobby Carpenter talked about this on the FAN a few weeks ago, so did James Laurinaitis. They said it's the scheme Schiano is running where he has the LBs "mug" the line of scrimmage on nearly every play. That being the term for crowding the line of scrimmage with your LBs, like everyone who has ever played Madden does on short yardage. They just weren't sure why he does it on every play, as opposed to the aforementioned short yardage situations where it makes sense. Speculation as reasons: the D-line needs help vs the run, the D-line needs help generating a pass rush, Schiano is a moron. I have trouble believing the last reason, so it appears the coaching staff has very little faith in our ability to stop the run or generate a pass rush without mugging the line. The end result mostly being that our LBs get caught in a scrum and we give up 70-80 yard plays on the reg.

The right side of the defense is horrible. The left side is not great, but not the guilty of all the big plays given up this year. They continually get sucked in and get blocked out of the play. Outside contain is horrendous. I've coached my kids from an early age, you never overplay the ball, go as deep as the ball and attack the ball carriers outside shoulder. Turn the play in, so your team mates can finish the play. As Ronburgundy alluded, the defensive line blocks to keep blockers off the LB's and the LB's think pass first and keep themselves free of blockers by extending your arms, using your hands, keeping your head up. As RB mentioned, premature commitment gets them sealed down and and a non-factor. Lateral pursuit is so important, no matter what the position is.
These are all fundamentals of good football technique. Failure to execute basic fundamentals and not use their brains, has me shaking my head.

There are a lot more moron players. I have never seen such stupidity by a football team with the talent they have. That falls back on coaching then when talent isn’t living up to it.

The Citadel only runs the ball so they aren't going to come back now. That fumble killed any hope.

In high school 5 star players can be stupid and dominate. You can have good grades, but aren't smart on the field.
I'm SURE players are coached and coached and coached not to hold, STILL holding penalties at bad times.
I'm SURE players are coached and coached to take proper angles to make tackles at the 3rd level, yet they don't this year and have in the past.
I'm SURE players are coached and coached to read keys. And still they watch fakes in the backfield instead of reading keys.
I'm SURE players are coached and coached to move on the snap count or watch the ball, yet players aren't smart enough not to jump off side or go in motion.
Hell all of that stuff is coached over and over in high school. I failed to read my key ONCE it resulted in a TD. That's all it took for me to ALWAYS read my keys correctly for the next three years. I started 4 years in high school on defense and offense line. I never jumped off side on defense or offense. Not once held on offense. Never had a penalty on defense. The intellectual part of the game.

WF, who's recruiting all these "morons"? 0%, the defense doesn't have to be out there. All that was needed was to have a standard punt formation, aware of a possible fake, instead of an all out rush to block.
