I’ve been to a lot of games in the FC this season and been impressed and not impressed by many things coaches have done but there has only been a couple coaches I can say that I am disappointed in every time I go to watch their team play. As I went to watch the last game of the south central vs. St. Paul game yesterday I was hoping that this game would change what I thought about the St. Paul coaching staff. But this game only made it worse. I feel sincerely bad for St. Paul because the coaching obviously does not match up with the players talent. St. Paul’s offense is stagnant. The substitutions are not as near good as where they should be. St. Paul has lost many close games due to coaching and I hate to Blame it on the coaches but at this point it is quite obvious that is why. Congratulations to Western Reserve on the undefeated season and conference championship. They deserved it!

You clearly don’t understand how you get coaching jobs so I’ll help you A) There has to be an opening B) if there is an opening the head coach does the hiring and typically hires someone they know or someone else knows C) if the Head coach position is open then go ahead submit your resume to the AD, who is only going to hire someone that he knows or someone else knows

Simon Blair is the best in the league, hands down, no competition. SC *should* 3-peat for the Crown. Last year, this year, next year. Shoulda, woulda, coulda

I should have went about it a different way, instead of being a douche. I just don't understand why everyone wants to bang on the coach. Mike Smith isn't a bad coach. The current climate of HS sports is blame the coach, blame the refs, not little johnny who didnt listen in the huddle. Also, I would argue most people who "blame the coach" rarely know anything about coaching.

Plus his staff from the 2 games I watched don’t do anything but sit there. Thanks to the Norwalk paper it seems like they yearly win the FC in JV, is that even really a thing? Are they not developing them at SP? Too much football? What gives? Someone needs to be accountable and that usually ends up being the head coach

I like Smitty as a person, really good guy. And he's been a "good" coach over the years. But I thought SP missed an opportunity when they had Ceccoli around the program, should have made the move then.

All St. Paul has left is the Winslow boys. But if we’re being honest, they need to go to upper. This place isn’t doing them any good.

If they live in Norwalk they could go to NHS and wouldn't have to sit out. The other 3 school, they'd have to actually move to keep from sitting out the last half of the season+.

With that team they would have a great chance of getting to state. That’s the whole goal isn’t it?

Simply saying, Upper would be returning some pretty good talent and those shots would get shared where as at St. Paul perhaps they get more opportunities due to lack of talent according to those who have posted they would be all St. Paul has.

St. Paul has a nice group of kids that would join the Winslow’s next year.
•Furlong is long and can play defense and shoot •Houck is another nice player, shoots the 3 well and attacks the basket •Baker is shooting the ball well and is an intelligent player •Adelman is handling the ball well and can also shoot and score from many spots on the floor •Shepherd has had some very strong games this year scoring and rebounding (scored a high of 37 and probably averaging close to 20)
All of these boys except for Furlong currently play JV, but they have had a very strong season 19-3. I think next years St Paul team would resemble a Western team with their players ability. (I said resemble, I’m talking about how well they shoot the ball) Most of the younger guys currently playing JV can shoot the 3 ball very well and would definitely be guard heavy on the court.

St.Paul coaching staff, does nothing. That's in interesting observation. Each one if those guys has a different responsibility. What do you think they should be doing? Jumping around like idiots? Yelling at the kids, crabbing at the refs?. Truth of the matter is this. If you are so all knowing about how a coach and staff should handle,well,...everything,then I've got an idea.I heart here will be an opening in the FC next year. So why don't you take yourself and your perfect situation handling dream staff there and square of against that horrible St.Paul staff twice a year. By all means, please showcase your coaching talent.

Not to stir the matter up more, but countless times I’ve seen St. Paul’s griffin and Winslows on the bench in the 4th quarter. Should not happen. I do not see any other teams doing that in the FC.

FCC108 can you send me your stats of all the St. Paul games that you personally did yourself? Do you have the breakdown on how many points are scored with certain combinations of players on the court? Do you know how many qts this year when the other team applies pressure to the leading scorers on the team they have struggled to score or issues with turnovers? Do you have the stats for poor shots and turnovers? I would say you don’t, but I bet the coach and his staff knows.
You were at the South Central game? Correct. What quarter was the game lost? How many points did Blair have in qt one? How many points did Blair have in qt 2? How many turnovers in the first half for SP? How many turnovers in the second half? I’m not saying I agree with every move the coach makes (I don’t) but if your going to express yourself you better come with some facts? How many points did the seasons leading scorer have for SP? How many points did their second leading scorer have? SC tried to take them out of the game and they did. I would have loved to see some players come back in before they did but the coach did what he thought would give them the best chance to win that night.
Let us educate the people about this last game, since it was 1 of the games you came to.
1. qt 1 sp 13-12 (Blair had 1pt) 2. qt 2 SC 20-13 (turnovers poor defense)(Blair had 10pts) 3. qt 3 SP 15-13 (Blair started off with a quick 5 pts then quiet after the first 3 minutes, SP gave up a huge 3 as the qt expired) 4. qt 4 SC 15-14 (Blair 4pts) 5. SP leading scorer has 2pts, good scouting and prep work by SC, it is hard to win when your leading scorer has 2pts 6. How many turnovers in the first half for SP? (10) How many turnovers in the 2nd half? (5) 7. What qt did SP have the majority of the turnovers in? Pretty easy if your paying attention FCC108, 2nd qt the same qt where SP was outscored and Blair had his big qt.
Since you know more than the Coach what was the line-up he used in the 2nd qt? I could go on and on, game by game and we could do this all night long. I’ve said this before and I will say it again, the Coach is going to play and do what he thinks gives him the best chance to win. (Not saying I agree) However I have noticed small changes here and there in decisions being made that gives me some hope they have it figured out for the playoffs.
Good Luck Flyers and remember, teams win not individuals. Perfect example of this would be SP Football or I’ll even throw in the NE Patriots. (Not the owner)

Blair’s scoring improving throughout the game isn’t a matter of the defensive group who was in for St. Paul, he just simply made shots through the next 3 quarters. And that is what he does. They started their seniors. So if Simon Blair has 1 point in the first quarter should the senior lineup stay in the rest of the game? Including 1 senior that usually doesn’t touch the floor. Not saying if a lineup is playing good don’t take them out but most of the time you should have your best players on the floor. And yes sometimes the best players for St. Paul did force some shots up. But the best players from teams should do that from time to time. Not saying always. Plus if you’re talking about facts. Who do you think the leading scorer is for St. Paul? Who do you think the 2nd is? Because right now Nick Winslow is first Nate Winslow is second and Jake griffin is 3rd. And jake griffin had the 2 point you were talking about while Nate Winslow had 14 and Nick had 5. So I don’t think your facts are quite right there buddy considering you meant Jake Griffin was there leading scorer.

And wellingtontoyman, the Flyers has 6 turnovers in the first quarter. Compared to the 4 in the second quarter that you labeled “sloppy”. So I don’t know if you are like that second group or those seniors because it seems like you are favoring them and you are also saying that I don’t know my facts but clearly. You don’t know your facts. So yes I’m fact we can “go all night long” with this.

Option #1 Griffin, option #2 Winslow’’s and option #3 Kashian’s nobody is arguing that when it comes to scoring. My point to you was your butt isn’t at practice and you aren’t breaking down film and looking at stats during game situations. The coaches use all of that info when deciding who they want out there as the game changes. I’ll be the first to say they make decisions that I wouldn’t make but I’m not the coach.
No, I don’t think the senior starters last week is the best lineup either. That was a great gesture by the coach and I don’t think that had any bearing of the outcome. If I was going to criticize anything it would be better use of the bench during game situations. That could be from matchup issues or having a shorter leash when things are going south.
There has not been a game all year that was close where Griffin was on the bench in the 4th quarter.(Not one) Maybe 3 games all year where 1 of the Winslow’s didn’t play as much as YOU think they should have in the 4th qt. 1 of those game they were down by 19 against Perkins and this past weekend against SC and the 1st game against SC. Obviously the coach felt at that time the lineup he had out there gave him the best matchup.
Since you are the basketball Czar I’m sure you would have coached this team to an undefeated season.

Well I can name one game off the top of my head where griffin was out in a close game in the 4th qtr and it was St. Paul @south Central. So your facts just aren’t right. And you said “leading scorer” not options. And I’m sure I could have coached them to a better record than 14-8. That team had talent this year, lots of it.
