Going to the Galion v Upper game. How is this years Galion team. Saw they handled Bucyrus and looks like Alsip is their go to player. Any height? Can Galion play with Upper? Upset?

Galion's starting five is good, not much depth. Decent height, all starters over 6 feet, a few in the 6'3"-6'4" range. Alsip is good and scores a lot but also shoots a ton, a lot of bad shots. Galion lost this game by over 40 last year so I don't see an upset happening. Galion has some talent but the coaching the last couple years has been bad. The good thing is other than this game, Galion should win all their non conference games, very weak schedule.

GT 56 US 71 Final Upper also won jv and freshmen game. I'll post more tomorrow. Upper got up by 20 early in the second quarter but Galion cut it to 9 late in the quarter. Upper’s lead stayed around the 12-15 range most of the second half. Upper’s halfcourt offense struggled badly at times and their defense seemed very confused at times, like they didn’t know who they were supposed to be guarding. That led to Galion getting a lot of open layups because they weren’t even guarded and on offense Mcreary had to do most of the work in the halfcourt offense. Mcreary also gave Alsip a lot of trouble defensively. Alsip finished in single digits and repeatedly had the ball knocked away by Mcreary. Galion played well after the first quarter once Upper’s intensity dropped off a little bit. Galion had 3 players in double figures and rebounded well. Tomorrow’s game against Pleasant could be interesting....

Good assessment GT1975. Uppers defense did struggle in the half court. My thought on why. Against Willard they played straight up defense on all Willard’s players. Last night they face guarded Alsip and that in my opinion messed up the continuity of their defense. Upper does a great job of switching on screens and interchanges. They held Alsip to single digits but they gave up easy layups by losing the other Galion players and had no help by the player face guarding Alsip. Also Upper missed a lot of wide open 3s and layups which my guess is that they normally make. Plus Vent had an average game especially offensively. The Lackey kid from Galion is a nice player and is long. Enjoyed watching him play. Going to see Willard at Carey tonight.

And Scowden is legit. Haven’t seen a freshman like him in few years, he might be a D1 player if can get noticed. Already BV best player imo. Had 17 or 18 other night. Herbert will lead team in scoring, but I would take scowden.

Harding won the Freshman game by 15.
Balogh usually has at least an 8 player rotation without hurting quality of play. This year he has 4 players that will play 28 minutes each and 3 role players that are asked to do no more than play defense, rebound and don't make any turnovers.
Soph Andy Kurtz scored 15. Last year on JVs he averaged 17.5 PPG, made 77 3-pointers on 46% of his 3-point shots.
Soph Griffin Shaver, leading varsity scorer last year, had 14. He made the team's first 2 shots, 3-pointers, to give Ontario a 6-0 lead that they never relinquished.
Senior Jayden Jacobs, returning starter and #2 rebounder in the MOAC last year scored 14.
Ontario will play more zone this year than any Balogh team of the past. To rest his 4 players that will play most of the game and keep them out of foul trouble.
Ontario has 7 Sophomores on their varsity roster
The most amazing thing about the night. The same 3 officials worked the Freshman, JV and Varsity games. No other officials could be found.

I was thinking/hoping that the score would have been a bit closer than that. So, it's back to scratching one's head, trying to figure out the Tigers (again).

Harding just lacks that alpha scorer who can get a bucket when needed that had previous years excluding last year in Tyler longstreth, Jason Ellis, Quinten McComas. They just don’t have that this year and go periods of games without scoring that just can’t happen, may be last in moac. Still early

I was really impressed with Harding's JV team last year. What happened to those players.

Apparently, RV blew a 15 point lead with about 3 minutes to go in the game. Herbert posts another 30 point game for BV.

Herbert had fouled out before BV rallied from down 15 points. R Valley gave them the game. BV also missing starters due to sickness.

The officials in our area aren’t getting any younger either. Might start to become common having same officials do all the games on that particular nite.

It's been talked about in the Mansfield area to offer a course in officiating in high schools and at North Central Technical College. Young officials getting a license before they graduate from high school or while they're attending NCTC. They then can start officiating 7th, 8th grade games right out of high school or while at NCTC and make some extra money.
I've talked to retired officials and they say current officials make plenty of money compared to what they made. I know a guy who started officiating JV games in 1970. He said the varsity officials then were paid $15 and it was their responsibility to GIVE the the JV official $2.50 each from their $15.00. The JV official worked the entire JV game and each Varsity official worked a half of the JV game. So the JV official got $5 for 4 quarters and each varsity official got $12.50 for 6 quarters. OR the JV official made $1.25 per quarter and the Varsity officials made $2.08 per quarter! But I do agree, pay officials more money. Which could be problematic for small schools that don't have football.
ALSO, Officials should kick at least one adult and one student out of every game. That would solve the "abuse" problem.

Years ago, when Otterbein was a college, you had to take phys-ed if you weren't on a varsity team. I took flag football, basketball, softball and weight lifting among other half semester phys-ed courses during my time in school. For football, basketball and softball the final exam was the OHSAA officials test for that particular sport. You pass the test, you get an "A" and your officials license for one year. I sometimes wonder how things would have worked out had I kept up my official licenses instead of getting hooked up in the government.
