So as far as I am concerned Tate transferring was a self-indictment of his own skillset and a self-critical take on what he personally thought his chances were of winning the starting job. Or Tate Martell feels about Ryan Day the way Baker Mayfield felt about Kliff Kingsbury.
We'll find out shortly. Was Day a bad hire and that bad hire ran our Mayfield out of town? or was Martell just not that good and knew he couldn't beat out a guy that hasn't even practiced with the team yet?
Now that we know he wanted to bail out before the season, we know he wasn't all on-board, or patient enough to wait for his moment when it finally came. I think your last sentence was probably the case. We all wish the kid the best at Miami and like Joe, will be observing his progress with great interest.

Torch,,you're a friend of mine and I respect your opinion a lot and obviously you have OSU connections to info. But something you're operating under with regards to JT and DH is hind site. Nobody could fore see how good DH was and how he developed. Now after throwing 50 TD's, of course we know. That is something the staff didn't expect I don't think.
In making a prediction, I think we'll see JK Dobbins just kill it in 2019. Reason- Fields, who I think ends up being the starter,,will be a running threat and thus opening up the running lanes more so for JK.

I have no inside source but from interviews, Martell did look to have a changed interest and a little attitude once DH was named the starter. With Joe being a grad he had options that Tate did not. Now after the success Joe has had, if Tate feels he was the best of the three OSU QBs and was not fairly assessed, he may have wanted out a long time ago. I am not saying this is a factor but with Haskins being 6'3, Fields being 6'3 and Martell at 5'11, is Day a a coach that likes a bigger QB looking over his lineman?

Tate grew a couple inches if he's 5-11......lol

Quincy Avery said that if his son was a QB, he'd want him to play for Ryan Day. Going forward, recruiting and developing QBs is the least of The OSU football program's worries.

Backup QB Kory Curtis is transferring out, along with Martell's departure, think something unexpected will happen before spring ball. Curtis was a walk on. With Martel transferring and assuming Fields is allowed to play, he would have been #4 on the depth chart this year

The college he's heading to escapes me, and not sure if it offers athletic scholarships. RB Brian Snead is transferring out. He was suspended after game 2 for violating team rules, never revealed the nature of his offense and he was never, officially re-instated. Fortunately, we are pretty deep in RB's this year.

Keandre Jones also enters the notorious TRANSFER PORTAL. Former 5*.

Suddenly, scholarships are becoming available, but late in the recruiting cycle, unfortunately. Keandre Jones had a world of potential, but maybe he was being underserved by Bill Davis.

Does OSU have another scholarship QB outside of Fields and Baldwin? I don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that Baldwin bolts if Fields is the starter. He’d be sitting atleast two year’s with no garuntee of playing after that.
Trying to make it a year with one scholarship QB is obviously less than ideal and season destroying in the worst case scenario.

I doubt his grades was the cause for a 12 game suspension. You're most probably right. Don't think they would have been quite as secretive if that was the case.

I saw video of him playing consider snaps in a game for Georgia this past season. His arm is at least as strong as Haskins' and is a better runner than JT.

My assessment from what I saw of him, he has the 'potential' to be a thrower of Haskins ability level and he has the 'potential' to be as good a running QB as JT. Think Day, Yurcich and Wilson have a perfect canvas to work with, and the potential to paint him into a masterpiece of a QB. Everyone says he is extremely intelligent, with the ability to quickly absorb the intense instruction he will be receiving this coming year.

You will notice I said nothing about Fields currently being the "thrower" Haskins was.

Who you were talking to made no comment about being a runner. You were late to the party again.
