I would just like to know why we went to 22 games from 20 for a season? I know who I am going to blame, but I want someone else to give me a good reason for it. I think it was a stupid change!!! This is a prime reason this winter why we should have stayed at 20, trying to make up games that were postponed because of weather!!

We all know the main reason at most schools is for revenue. Schools don't have to schedule 22 games if they don't want to. I think also the kids would rather play the games than practice. I personally like the 22 game schedules. Heck in some states there are 30+ game schedules. At Lexington as with probably most schools we have a lot of open Saturday dates on our schedule to make up games not to mention Tuesdays. I really never liked the games scheduled through the week.

OHSAA was getting a lot of comments being made about other states that play a crazy schedule with no limits on the games allowed. Although 22 games is now the maximum there still are some schools that only schedule 20. Part of the reason for that, I am told, is because there location almost guarantees a few cancelations and reschedules during the heavy winter months and they need the open dates to get the 20 games in. With the overlap of fall/winter and winter/spring sports, I wish they would have stayed at 20 games and shortened the game season. As it sits now HS football and basketball are being played the same weekends and baseball season can begin the day of basketball state finals. Make the regular season 12 weeks to play 20 games.

It also helps our kids competing for scholarships with states that have up to 30 games.

I think Dude is onto something. As football playoffs were extended a few schools in the state were trespassing on EVERY schools basketball season.

I think start of b-ball should be pushed back bc of playoffs in football... not too mention some schools get there games in and might have a 10-12 day layoff between final game and tournament opener. 22 games is great for competition, but as we see now, gonna make it difficult to squeeze in games that had to be postponed

I’d rather see football go back to four rounds than worry about 22 basketball games. Football has a much greater risk of injury. Just look at the difference between NFL and NBA seasons. Plus we’ve diluted making the football playoffs to a participation ribbon. 7 divisions * 32 teams. Sheesh. Heck, play 30 b-ball games if you want.

It also helps our kids competing for scholarships with states that have up to 30 games. That really is a silly thought. Going from 20 to 22 games changes nothing in the recruiting of an athlete to college.

Going from 20 to 22 games changes nothing in the recruiting of an athlete to college. Agreed. There is more recruiting going on in the summer at AAU than winter b-ball. It’s easier for coaches. Concentrated talent, kids dedicated enough to play year around, and not actively coaching their own season.

As it's been mentioned, some states play 30-40 games. Many teams from those states play multiple out-of-state tournaments and can even play two games in one day. I wouldn't want to play 5 games in 4 days, but going to 22 isn't a big deal to me.

It went to 22 games because we were trying to catch up to Willard's winning streak a bit quicker. The plan didn't work.

I see the change to 22 being all about tickets and revenue.

I think there is a few reason. I'm sure tickets and revenue had something to do with it. I also think more and more teams are playing in Holiday tournaments and stuff that have multiple games and it was really limiting Ohio teams on which ones they could play in. I also feel like it is easier with the weather to have a few extra games that if you can't reschedule its not the end of the world. All in all it was a smart move and I don't think its a big deal at all.

It is football's fault for playing into basketball season.

It was mainly your selfish coach's and private recruiting schools that care nothing about anyone but themselves, lets just play more games for me. Just like someone mentioned AAU ball, all that teaches a kid is to play me ball, not team ball! You mentioned rescheduling is not a big deal, when you have to reschedule a game it don't just effect the game you have changed, what about the other sports that you have to go around, girls games and wrestling, ask an AD if it is not a big deal!!! I hope the rumor I hear becomes turn, that we will go back to 20 games.

Sweathog, what is the true hardship you have witnessed because of the 22 games? I would think a competent AD would already have a listing of contingency days available based on their winter sports schedule each year. Mix and match them until both schools can agree on a date. It isn't like they have to build and dismantle the bus they take to the game each time they have a date coming up.

Sit outside your AD's office and whine, until you get him to go back to 20.

The only thing the 'hog is hearing are voices in his head. There's no push by anyone credible to return to 20 games. No rumors, just fact. No need for anything to become turn (sic).
