This spinning wheel of blame can go on forever but in a normal school when a old coach is disliked and a new coach comes in the numbers go up because its a fresh start if the kids and parents have interest in the sport.

Truecrimson 3 points.
1) You may have had a solid idea with retaining Eicher 1 year and then doing a fresh search. I brushed that off but in hindsight may have been a good option. Not that new coach is bad, but it's tough timing on him and Eicher already knows the establishment. Good point by you in hindsight.
2) This new coach may be good, he's got a lot of ppl to prove wrong but I was defending his hire on Facebook and got attacked. I'm rooting for him. I think he may be facing some unfair backlash. He shouldn't be judged on this year.
3) Devier I think did what he needed to do. With the past hazing incident I think he wanted to make darn sure he had a job elsewhere and they weren't going to yank it out from him before he officially quit Willard. It is what it is.

If they don't The blame is squarely on the parents and kids. Beautiful field, and what I think is a legit coaching staff in place . When parents transfer their kids locally, or kids don't go out for this reason or that after "starting" as a Freshman and Soph,,,there's nothing the higher ups or coaches can do. Only so many kids in the school. I disagree with this, there is plenty of blame to go around......coaches (past, some current), administration, as well as parents and players

He hung the school and admin out to dry and we'll see the damage it did this coming season. The admin get what they deserve because they couldn't think their way out of a wet paper bag when it comes to building solid foundations in this school, and not only in athletics.

Willard Football has looked like this for a long time now. Would you guys stop propping up this dead program and just bury it. Soccer is where it's at, Soccer is the sport Willard should be focused on. All resources need to be put towards the Willard Soccer Program and we need to officially stop wasting resources on propping up a dead football program. Cooper Parrott would look good on the Willard Soccer team.

If it's any consolation, I liked Willard's effort at yesterday's 7 on 7/Linemen Challenge in Norwalk.

Devier wasn't board approved at Riverdale as the head football coach until mid June. He resigned from Willard in May, well ahead of the Riverdale BOE approval and soon after he accepted a position at ONU. If the newspaper has it correct I'd say people should be happy for the guy for getting the opportunity to move back home and be a professor. His departure was later than has become common place but, imo did not hang anyone out to dry. Like him or not he did move the program forward at least some. Took the Flashes from 5 wins in 5 years to 5-5 in 2018 and could have easily been 7-3.

This program is dismantled and he milked it for everything he could, bravo to him for being a user. Moved the program in the right direction, good lord man! What he deserves is to be out of coaching for good because he is like most these days, go where you think you’ll have some success for a few years until something more appealing comes along. Personally, I’m glad to see a person with zero character leave our system.

For a coach that wasn't approved until mid june he had players meeting on may 21st. And was announced as new coach on may 20th. You can see this if you'd go look at his twitter or riverdale twitter.

He signed at Willard May 6. You are correct, he was approved in May. Riverdale BOE meeting approval May 20 according the minutes. Point being, he did resign ahead of official approval which is more than some would do.

They played for him correct? Looking at the team photos over the past few years there are 30+ in each. Last years team was 5-5 and the JV team went undefeated if I remember correctly. I don't blame the guy at all for taking an opportunity at a university and jumping ship from Willard. Seems like a toxic place to work. If what I read on here is any indication Willard's issues run much deeper than a coach. Flashes nation should try to support their people rather than bash everyone. Heck, everyone on here wanted Joe B's head and basketball had a fantastic year.

Devier sucked the last ounce of blood out of this school he could before bailing, fact.

Coopers job this year is to stay healthyAmen ... but how will any of the kids stay healthy with numbers so low? With sixteen kids (I'm assuming freshmen as well) I doubt there is any kind of conditioning that can get them ready for going both ways for the whole game.

Let's say Willard were to cancel football season. How would it impact Parrot's football recruiting? I've heard he has scholarship potential but not playing his senior year would certainly hurt his stock. I guess playing football and throwing to freshman and sophomores wouldn't help it either. If there was a case to transfer out I couldn't think of a better one.

I'd agree with that. But honestly he won't have time to throw. He's going to be running for his life every passing down. And his body will be taking a beating. He's a great kid. As are all the boys. Johnathan Rothhaar is in same boat he's only a junior but good enough to play at next level. Let's say Willard were to cancel football season. How would it impact Parrot's football recruiting? Are they seriously discussing canceling the season or is it speculation based on the numbers at the 7 on 7?

Coop has still been heavily participating in Summer AAU basketball. He's been trying to recruit several of the Willard basketball players to play football, so he has some kind of target to throw to. I believe he knows the challenges he's gonna face this year in football. I also believe he has really high expectations for the basketball team. No talk of him transferring from the basketball players.

Yeah their could be long nights against some of the bay teams but the opportunity to compete most nights is there for Willard.

Oh I think it's more than just 7 on 7 numbers. I think it's just plain old numbers. BTW I talked to a Willard Varsity soccer player today and he said they had a few over 30 practicing. Full JV and Varsity squad.

What 6 teams are you talking about competing with and talent wise? Or in similar situations. Plymouth has close to 50 kids out and now have Josh stevens a 2 year starter for Willard. Seneca east has also 50 and were state final 4 last year. Lucus is a division 7 powerhouse. No way they compete against any bay team. Including vermilion. That leaves 2 teams. South central who they lost to last year and Southeast that could be winnable. Be glad that's at home long ride from warren ohio.
