What 6 teams are you talking about competing with and talent wise? Or in similar situations. Plymouth has close to 50 kids out and now have Josh stevens a 2 year starter for Willard. Seneca east has also 50 and were state final 4 last year. Lucus is a division 7 powerhouse. No way they compete against any bay team. Including vermilion. That leaves 2 teams. South central who they lost to last year and Southeast that could be winnable. Be glad that's at home long ride from warren ohio. Why cancel the season? Six of Willard’s ten games are against teams in similar situations to Willard numbers/talent wise. Yeah their could be long nights against some of the bay teams but the opportunity to compete most nights is there for Willard.

Willard should be able to compete with the schools you mentioned including Lucas. Seneca East returns a lot but they also lost one of the best players in school history. Plymouth would have to add significant numbers to hit fifty from a year ago. I hope they have because that would be great for local small school football. At the end of the day Willard isn’t going to get better at football by not playing football. When we turned things around in PC the first year was absolutely awful. We were playing freshman and sophomores heavily and it showed on the field. We went 0-10 and lost several games by 60 some points including a 84-13 beat down from Genoa. Those losses taught our kid’s a lot and the Friday night playing time those young kids got paid dividends for the next year when we went from 0-10 to 7-4 with the schools first ever playoff trip. Stay the course and positive things will happen.

I hate to say I told you so. But when Willard was made too play in the Bay Division, I knew they would lose players, not gain players.

Plymouth does have close to 50. Seneca east lost some. Willard lost sowers, mahl, brant, holiday, polacheck, and devion to grad. Plus lost stevens, and a few other boys to transfer. I'd love to be wrong and will gladly eat crow. What 6 teams are you talking about competing with and talent wise? Or in similar situations. 33 from the 17 or 19 that was said on here from a couple people is pretty good. Did they talk any of the basketball or other kids that had been heard they were not playing?

No on Meisner and Pinkston who were mentioned earlier. Those two will be in the top 8 on the basketball team. They did play football last last year and would have figured prominently in the football team if playing.

I was always fascinated he went out for football his Senior year.

If they have the right composition of 33 kids ( linemen to skill) Willard should be able to field at least a couple combined JV/Frosh games.

I think Nick was a good athlete and he realized he was missing out by specializing in one sport. Unfort kids get misguided info sometimes,,like Pinkston being told apparently he's a future College basketballer. I had a guy tell me,,,now this isn't my opinion so don't shoot the messenger,,,but this person told me---"Pinkston doesn't like getting hit". Is it true,,,no idea,,only he can answer that.

Funny post. Not sure anyone likes getting hit these days and most play because they are pressured. Myles has more of a chance of getting a basketball scholarship to a D1 or D2 school than anyone else on that basketball team. Go to an AAU tournament some time and see who these coaches are talking about, Myles. I was told when willard was scrimmaging CC this summer the CC coach got mad because one of his players didn't help with defense on Myles and he said how can you not help, that kid is the best player in this gym and you don't want to play help defense.

I'm looking forward to watching Myles play hoops,,because the kid I watched play football was closer to a College D1 or D2,,,than the kid I watched play hoops. He must have really improved. Regarding getting hit,,,if you don't like hitting, you better not play football--period, end of story. It's a contact sport.
I disagree with him being the best basketball player on that team,,,he IS the best athlete I would say, but Cooper and Skeeter were both better all around players,,,at least last year.

I don't argue the point, blast or get blasted in football. I will argue the point about basketball. If you are talking box scores as best basketball player, I would agree with cooper and skeeter. However, the all around best ballplayer when it comes to defense, offense and getting your teammates involved (Myles by a long shot). He is entering his Junior Year and that means he has two seasons to be a more prolific scorer, and I think we will start to see that this year. Chancing a snapped leg or arm and being sidelined for 1/2 of the basketball season, not good.

I hope he is everything you describe on the court. If so, we're going to be tough to beat in the tournament.

Not sure we have the defense we had in the middle last year and guard play is yet to be determined. May be a tough projection but thinking we at least get to District Finals. If we get there we have to have the 4th-5th guy step up.

Myles is a solid athlete. Plays a more complete basketball game than anyone else on the team.....defense, scoring, rebounding, finding the open guy, etc....most complete player on the team. However, he's no where near a D1 prospect, maybe D2. If anyone thinks elsewise, then they just dont see enuf D2 college basketball. That's not a shot at Myles, love his game, but he needs a jumper before any D1 or D2 scout is going to look at him seriously. BTW the comment made by the CC coach at the scrimmage was "he's the best athlete in the gym and how can you forget where he is?"

The person that told me has been around basketball and watching for 40 years so his hearing may be a little suspect. He’s a D1 player for sure and like i said, he has two more years to get better. not many freshman start varsity for 4 years. I suppose it is all in the eye of the beholder.

I hope you're right on him being a DI player. I've watched Willard BBall for 50 years and I've only seen a handful of DI guys play here so another would be a treat. I graduated with an All Ohio 1st teamer and he didn't get a DI offer so MP beter at least make 2nd team All Ohio this year to get the scouts looking.

I believe he is one of the few that have started as a freshman so I'm sure his expectations are high as well. If his grades are solid (3.4+) he shouldn't have any problem landing a D1 spot.

Why is everyone hung up on D1 or D2? If he gets either ... the compensation is basically the same education wise.

I believe you are right, he started most games as a freshman. I'm not hung up on anything, I would love to see Myles playing at the next level.....D1, D2, D3, NAIA, whatever he can achieve. Just saying a 17ft jumper would increase his chances immensely. Furthermore, he's gonna be the third option ( at best) offensively for the Flashes this year. Parrot and Baldridge are gonna take most of the shots. I know we need to be balanced offensively if we're gonna repeat last year, but I see those 2 seniors getting a majority of the shots.

Back on football, I just talked tp Parrot and Pinkston. I would say Pinkston isn't completely off the football game. I think he is reconsidering.

Not really, D1 scholarships are usually full rides, completely paid for educational wise. D2 scholarships are usually broken in half to allow the colleges to recruit more players. This means the player and the school usually have to rely on an extremely high GPA to get an academic scholarship or find other means to cover the other half. There’s nothing to stop a Division II college from giving a full sports scholarship, but in my dealings with Division II coaches so far i’m guessing it’s not something that happens a lot.

Things must've changed ... my daughter had a full ride at a D2 school and it covered everything including summer school if she decided to take summer classes.

There is a possibility that whether a college is private/public changes some of the scholarship dynamics.

Things must've changed ... my daughter had a full ride at a D2 school and it covered everything including summer school if she decided to take summer classes. A full athletic scholarship at D2 is still a possibility, nothing has changed in that aspect, it depends on what the school wants to do. Most D2 colleges will exhaust all other scholarship options coupled with a 1/2 athletic scholarship before they use a full scholarship and a player. Obviously if a player is really good and they want to ensure that a particular player is on their team in the future they will offer a full athletic scholarship.

I have no idea who bat or his daughter are, I was just trying explain why people get hung up on the D1 D2 conversation. 👍🏻
