I'm looking forward to watching Myles play hoops,,because the kid I watched play football was closer to a College D1 or D2,,,than the kid I watched play hoops. He must have really improved. Regarding getting hit,,,if you don't like hitting, you better not play football--period, end of story. It's a contact sport. I disagree with him being the best basketball player on that team,,,he IS the best athlete I would say, but Cooper and Skeeter were both better all around players,,,at least last year. I don't argue the point, blast or get blasted in football. I will argue the point about basketball. If you are talking box scores as best basketball player, I would agree with cooper and skeeter. However, the all around best ballplayer when it comes to defense, offense and getting your teammates involved (Myles by a long shot). He is entering his Junior Year and that means he has two seasons to be a more prolific scorer, and I think we will start to see that this year. Chancing a snapped leg or arm and being sidelined for 1/2 of the basketball season, not good. This is football talk not a basketball! If he can't handle the contact sport then he needs to just play another sport like golf! LOL

Sure would of been nice for Willard to stay in the lower division one more year for the new coach to help turn the program around. SBC is wrong in moving them up know the program is down. Just leave the Bay alone and the numbers are the same as the Lake. Let the River be a bigger division. IMO Better for the schools football programs. I'm not a Willard fan but I do hate seeing a old NOL team struggle that bad!

A full athletic scholarship at D2 is still a possibility, nothing has changed in that aspect, it depends on what the school wants to do. Most D2 colleges will exhaust all other scholarship options coupled with a 1/2 athletic scholarship before they use a full scholarship and a player. Obviously if a player is really good and they want to ensure that a particular player is on their team in the future they will offer a full athletic scholarship. College HOF good, if I'm not mistaken, so, yes, she was "pretty good." Thanks Knight ... and you are correct.

I'm not a Willard fan but I do hate seeing a old NOL team struggle that bad! Willard is where they belong despite the state of their football program. They are 20 boys smaller than Oak Harbor and 23 smaller Edison (the two next smallest schools in the Bay). Furthermore, the Bay would have been 5 schools and the River would have been 9 schools if Willard stayed. That makes zero sense compared to 6-6-8 for a multitude of reasons. Also worth noting, when this all started Willard was offended to be in the River then they realized what it could do for their program. It wasn't too long ago they were asking the original SBC (with Clyde and Perkins) to join before this all went down. Lastly, ask a school like Danbury what they thought about having to play Willard - 55 boys vs 169 boys last year when they played.

Can someone please give me some hope that the Perkins Pirates are going to be a halfway decent team this year! Been awhile. Only 3 coaches remain from 2 years ago, (Zeigler, Old Harbal, and Young Harbal). 16 kids in Jr and Sr class combined. Two best Sr. skill players gone to other schools. New offense, they are going to the spread with only 1 WR in the Sr. class and 0 in the Jr. class. New OC, Crabtree should make a difference. New uniforms. Id be surprised if they went .500 this year.. I see 2 wins, maybe as high as 4 a possibility. A lot of young talent. Sorry piratefan.

It wasn't too long ago they were asking the original SBC (with Clyde and Perkins) to join before this all went down. Lastly, ask a school like Danbury what they thought about having to play Willard - 55 boys vs 169 boys last year when they played. Cool numbers, but you didn't dig deep into the numbers. I, and my fellow top brass of Willard have dug super deep into the numbers. This is why we knew Hawkins had to go and why we've been phasing the football team out and starting up the Soccer program (and built a cool field for them, disguised as a football field for a few years). You forgot to look at demographics. I will help you delve in and hopefully all Willard people see this so we can officially cancel this football program for good.
As you mentioned he boys enrollment is 169. Good information, as you may have read in this thread 30% of Willard's enrollment is now Hispanic. We the top brass saw this coming long ago. Now take 30% from 169. What do you get? 118. 118 is the real pool of talent that Willard is choosing from to field a football team, don't kid yourself and think it's not, find me all the Lopez, Gomez, Ramirez, etc on the Football team, those kids are on the Soccer team. Meanwhile Willard's Soccer team is deficient in last names like Parrot, Smith, and Johnson.
In reality Willard is fielding a Football team with 118 kids to choose from and D7 starts at 116. We basically have a D7 football enrollment and are forced to play in D5. Recipe for disaster. So why fund it? That's why the goal is to disband it. Meanwhile the Soccer program is fielding a team from a pool of 51 kids, now wouldn't it be amazing to get to field the Soccer program from a pool of 169 kids? YES.
Do you hear me Willard? It is time to disband the football program for good and put all resources towards the Soccer Program. This Soccer Program has the potential to be amazing, there is only one thing holding it back, the bag of bones Football team. The demographics have shifted and Friday Night SOCCER is what should be played in this town, all resources must be put towards the Soccer program, we are looking forward to building on to the stands to accommodate the huge crowds this Premier Soccer Program will be hosting in the near future. But it's all pending on the dismantling of the football program.
I close my eyes and I see
Willard 2023 State Champs in Soccer Willard 2024 State Champs in Soccer Willard 2025 State Champs in Soccer Willard 2026 State Champs in Soccer Willard 2027 State Champs in Soccer Willard 2028 State Champs in Soccer Willard 2029 State Champs in Soccer Willard 2030 State Champs in Soccer OHSAA makes new rule for 2031 bumping Willard up to D1 because they are so Premier. It will be called the Willard rule (when you are so amazing you have to get bumped all the way up to D1)
Willard 2031 State Champs in Soccer in D1 Willard 2032 State Champs in Soccer in D1
This is going to be AMAZING. I can't wait.

Perhaps you can quick sell the bleachers to Norwalk so the visitors have seats for the football games. you won't need them for soccer.

Heard this afternoon that after this morning's news of a few more athletes, the spigot was opened a little larger and about a half dozen or so kids are playing, even a few mentioned earlier in this thread that are returning lettermen.

No Einstein(s), they were working jobs (labor) trying to make a few bucks before going back to school, prior to that they were lifting as a basketball team at 7:00am 3 days per week right beside the football team, the reason they decided to play football is because their classmates and coaches have been pleading with them all summer to play (much respect there), by all accounts they were very well received last night by both players and coaches, optimism is abundance right now

Leaving SBC, joining N-10? Never happen. Mr Sheldon will see to that Willard did not have the foresight to join the NCC when they were invited and could have. Consequentially, the N10 was not structured to accommodate them when they finally were able to see the light.
