There are tons of pictures on social media and one of my friends from Upper who now lives there about a mile south of the damage path caught video from yesterday. Looks like it was pretty intense. I was in a small one March 10, 1986 at night and want to see one in the daytime up close and personal. I have had close calls, but not seen one in the past 30+ years. If I make it to retirement age, I'm going to do some chasing.

The car dealership that got leveled is literally a quarter mile down the road from my mom's house. The path of the tornado was going northeast, and my mom's house is due east from the car dealership. The potted pansies on her front porch didn't even move. It really does come down to freakish luck.

I live less than a mile from the dealership and the new rebar business that lost the roof off its brand new building. My wife and I heard it. Thankfully no deaths reported.

We were visiting friends in Mansfield when the storm that created the tornado in Shelby went over the house we were at. When we got there it was cloudy and 40-45 degrees, two hours later it was 60-65 and sunny. We were sitting out on the patio enjoying the sun when we heard this rumbling, it sounded like a jet in the distance. The rumbling continued without a break for 10 minutes, yet there was no lightning. It got darker and darker and darker. Realizing it wasn't a jet we started looking for a funnel cloud, before we heard about the tornado warning.
The storm came from the south, dark black skies to the East of the house, gray skies to the West of the house, fluffy white clouds, patches of blue and some sun North of the house. We got all of the pads for the patio furniture put away just before the heavy wind and rain started
Really weird weather, luckily for our friends, no tornado.

Shelby made the national news and read an extensive article in our south Florida paper. So happy no one was killed or injured. considering the amount of damage.
Amazing how Rocket Chevrolet was ripped apart and the owners motorcycle collection was left sitting upright and intact. My heart goes out to the folks in and around Shelby, thank God, all are safe
Good video's documenting the tornado itself and the aftermath. This was one of the better one's.

On behalf of the folks here in Shelby Thank you for the prayers and well wishes. It is appreciated. I know a group from the track team has been pitching in on the cleaning up. It will take some time but things will get back to normal.

Didn’t know it was an EF-2 until I just caught that video... pretty big base at a half mile wide. My tornado was small in comparison all those years ago, with only a fifty yard base and also an F-2. We lost two to the tornado all those years ago. Just good to hear that none were lost in Shelby.
