Noon on ABC
This will be the 17th meeting between these teams, and Ohio State leads the all-time series 14-2. UC's wins came in 1896 and 1897.

Think we'll see a more consistent and focused Ohio State team this week. After the dominating 1st quarter and a so, so 2nd quarter, it became apparent the coaches wanted to get as many players game exposure and looks. I believe only one player didn't make it on the field. Offensively, they played it pretty close to the vest, choosing not to show too much with Cincinnati next on the agenda. Fully expect a more complete, game effort against the Bearcats.

ALSO, defensively they made no effort to disguise their coverage. Which is a big part of NFL packages, to give the opponent's QB as much problem as possible reading what the defense is going to do. This will change, as both of Ohio State's Co-D-coordinators have NFL experience.

I believe this years team will be benefactors of a much improved coaching staff, especially on the defensive side of the ball. I think we are witnessing an incremental approach to bringing this young and largely, inexperienced team along. Many fans were rather delusional, expecting a 62-14 blowout. I would expect coach Day and his coaches, spent a great deal of time in the video room reviewing mistakes of the past week. Physically, they are ready, but mentally they are adapting them to the accelerated pace of today's college game. The new defensive coaches said they want them to be more physical and reactionary than the sit back and read, creating a more impulsive and physical game. Haven't seen the Buckeyes run to the ball as well as we witnessed. Again, think we saw just a glimpse of this teams capabilities.

Fields throwing accuracy had me very worried in the Spring game (some of his throws weren't even in the same ballpark as the WR), but I liked what I saw vs FAU. Most of his balls were on target with his inaccurate throws being inaccurate in the right way. He also didn't force balls into coverage. I recall one play where you can see a receiver "open" but the throwing lane was not there, so Fields tucked the ball and ran for like 2 yards instead of trying to zip a ball between/over those LB's.
I give the O-line a grade of a 'C' vs FAU. I saw multiple plays where Fields correctly reads the end and gives the ball to Dobbins, then Dobbins has no where to go because 2 other defenders are unblocked in his hole. That's 3 unblocked players for FAU (the intentionally unblocked player that Fields reads) then 2 guys in the hole waiting for Dobbins. Dobbins has a shot vs 1 guy, not 2. I'll be watching #52 and #71 as I saw both get beat multiple times on run plays.
Everybody has bad days, 1st game gitters, etc. Hopefully that is all cleaned up for Cincy.
The spread is 16 vs Cincy, I have OSU 35-17 so I'm going with OSU to cover.

Those issues in the spring game may have been because the receivers were in the wrong spots and Fields was throwing to the correct spot.

I think the 'silver bullets' is going to make their return, this year. Getting Cornell back to his customary tackle position and Tyler Friday back at DE, is going to be noticeable. Once we get Jonathon Cooper back, opposite of Chase Young, possibly the most formidable end combo in college football. Add to the mix, highly touted freshmen Zach Harrison and Javonte Jean-Baptista. along with sophomore Tyreke Smith, what awesome depth and talent!
Davon Hamilton starting ahead of Landers is somewhat of a surprise, but I understand Hamilton is more of an every down NT and Landers is more of a situational guy. Again, depth with down linemen has coaches licking their chops. Besides Landers and Hamilton, Sophomore Tommy Togiai is a block of granite and will get plugged in for short yardage situations often this year. Haskel Garrett and transfer Antwuan Jackson will be solid replacements.
LB's looked so much better than last year, in game one. Positional coaching changes is going to make it's mark have the talent playing up to expectations after last season's embarrassment. Very few are sold on Tuff Borland, with lack of foot speed & mobility, but he makes up in his abilities of getting himself in the right position at the right time. Baron Browning has a high ceiling and is a future starter and standout at some point, possibly this year. Teradja Mitchell played exceptionally well as a freshman, put on some additional weight and muscle in the off season and should be poised to be strong backup or a possible starter, if injury beckons.
The safety positions are absolutely loaded, with Fuller, Pryor and Proctor at FS and Brendon White at SS. Don't be surprised if Brendon White joins Chase Young as the 2nd AA on this defensive unit.
Jeffery Okudah and Shawn Wade may earn post season recognition at CB.
I'm anticipating some exciting performances on the defensive side of the ball!

Sportsjock,
Well Said!! I loved what I saw, even if it was only against FAU. The potential the defense has is very remarkable. The best part is, I believe they can do it as well.
Watching Fields warm up and get into the groove if you will, is going to be my biggest thing to watch. I know he has plenty of talent around him, do be great I just hope its consistent!
There always seems to be "that game" every year, if the defense can play like they should even if there is "that game" buckeyes have a very realistic opportunity to put a goose egg in the loss column this year.

Cincy almost cost us a National Title in 02 at Paul Brown Stadium. We barely won with Clarett on the sidelines.

Cincy almost cost us a National Title in 02 at Paul Brown Stadium. We barely won with Clarett on the sidelines. The 2nd best football program in Ohio and the 2nd largest university in Ohio, should show up, far more frequently on Ohio State's schedule. This has the potential makings of a developing rivalry.

This was absolute domination. Much improved from last week. Nobody put it on cruise control. Need some secondary improvement. Got beat on some long balls. Can’t let that happen all season. Amazing job by the D at the end for denying that score.

The offensive line was solid, with Dobbins putting in a very productive day. Master Teague III continues to impress, he is a beast with the ball. Tuff Borland's tipped int. gave him the opportunity to show his foot speed wasn't all that bad as he ran it back to mid-field...lol Benjimin Victor is playing like everyone wished, especially after completing the catch. For someone that lanky, he has quick feet. The team as a whole, appears much more disciplined than last season, that was one of the most penalized teams in the country.

Chase Young is a beast and Browning is looking real good at LB so far in both games. The defense as a whole looks so much better than last year.

I thought our O-Line looked really good today. Both Lines for that matter. Anyone notice the marked improvement in snaps to the QB. I think the Meyers kid is really gonna be good at Center. Gonna be fun to watch these new guys finally get a chance.

Coach Fickell and his players took a rather humiliating beatdown, with a heads up class. So refreshing to see two opponents approach one another with a mutual respect, devoid of any trash talking, a rarity in this day and age.
This years defense is playing at a totally, different level than last years embarrassment. Our young and mostly inexperienced OL is is dispelling those doubters, that enjoy badmouthing coach Stud, one idiot on '11 Warriors' was even referring to him as coach 'dud'. Excellent job OL!!! Good to see Dobbins looking like his freshman year and Master Teague III is an absolute beast with the ball. He has it all, power, explosiveness, vision and speed.
After two games completed, one thing that is very apparent. This years team is much more disciplined than last years penalty plagued squad, one of the most penalized teams in college football. Credit Coach Day and his staff!
Cincinnati will be just fine, coach Fickell will not allow anyone to hang their heads over this one and have a great season, moving forward. However, a suggestion to Fickell, you didn't take one 'in' the mouth, you took one 'on' the mouth. One can be perceived as obscene, while the other is just good boxing terminology....lol
