Huron leads this series 22-8 the win oar has stayed with huron since 1966 (even though vermilion stole it once, then huron stole it back)

So Vermilion hasn't beaten Huron since 1966? Anyone has the years they've played? I realize it couldn't have been every year but that's a long time. Especially for a school that call them one of their "rivals".

Especially for a school that call them one of their "rivals". Huron left the lakeland and joined the SBC in the mid 60's so the series ended after the 1967 game which Huron won 13-6... although we did scrimmages for a number of years after that, we did not play in a regular season game again until 2005... we then stopped again after the 2011 season.. and picked it back up when vermilion joined the sbc in 2016 season.. Vermilion used to have really good football back in the days.. Far as the rival..used to be big with the win oar,, but not so much on the football side....still get after it in basketball and other sports pretty well...

Huron-Vermilion would have been a great series in the 80s and 90s.

They also played each other in the Firelands League: Huron (1934-53) / Vermilion (1947-53)

They also played each other in the Firelands League: Huron (1934-53) / Vermilion (1947-53) Huron's first year of 11 man football was 1948.. they played 6 man before that.. They played without a league until they joined the firelands in 1949..which consisted of margaretta, huron, vermilion and new london... in 53 they was back to independent but joined the lakeland conference in 1954..

for the record...
Huron vs Vermilion
1948 Vermilion 45-0 1948 Vermilion 21-0 yes played twice in the same season 1949 Vermilion 39-6
1950 Huron 26-8 1951 Huron 50-0 1952 Huron 19-0 1953 Huron 53-7 1954 Huron 47-19 1955 Huron 33-0 1956 Huron 19-0 1957 Huron 28-13 1958 Huron 46-16 1959 Huron 30-6
1960 Huron 38-0 1961 did not play 1962 Vermilion 8-0 1963 Vermilion 40-14 1964 Vermilion 20-6 1965 Vermilion 38-8 1966 Vermilion 25-8 1967 Huron 13-6
2005 Huron 41-7 2006 Huron 14-0 2007 Huron 30-14 2008 Huron 20-6 2009 Huron 31-7 2010 Huron 52-6 2011 Huron 44-0
2016 Huron 32-29 2017 Huron 40-28 2018 Huron 31-7
The Win-Oar which is a old wooden oar from the 1950's is kept by the winning team of the game..its about 20 foot long.. and that tradition started about 1960... As I said Vermilion stole it from Huron at one time,, and Huron stole it back... But this was a big time rival in football back in the days.. The Volleyball teams picked up on this idea and when Vermilion joined the SBC they started playing for the "war on the shore" belt..which goes to the winning team.. vermilion now plays other sports in the lake division, but for now we are still playing a non-conference volleyball game..

Final: Huron 34 Vermilion 0. Bad officiating game. Never seen a 15 yard delay of game penalty before. Apparently, Huron was late coming onto the field to start the 3rd qtr., The officials marched off 15 yards, Among other screw ups they made, And some obvious stuff that wasn't called.

The only time I've seen it called was also on Huron, at Bellevue in either 2013 or 2015, because they were late to the field to start the game.

With all the chaos in Region 14 last night, Tigers still sit at 16.

Bellevue blowing that Clear Fork game may prove fatal.
