These two last played in 2016, and this will be their first league matchup since both were members of the Little Big League from 1934-1944.

Gonna go out on a long limb here....
Willard in a stunner, jumps out to an early lead and holds off a 2nd half rally.
28-26
Just to ruin the 0-9 Bowl headed our way.

Coaches gotta be careful how they handle these young men the rest of the season. They've been beat down on the field. Getting beat down in the locker room at this point may be counter productive. They need some positives, coaches have to focus on positives or the numbers are gonna be worse next year. They know they're not good, but everyone needs/wants to believe its gonna get better...just gotta stay the course. Hate to see some of these kids who decided to play this year, not play next year because everything is so negative.....on the field and in the locker room.

But we didn't, and there was a reason. SOCCER
Congrats to the Willard Soccer program on yet another Sectional Championship. Well done boys. Just a matter of time now before the city finally says, "No more football for me, I'm a Soccer fan."

Soccer did win yesterday. Congratulations to those kids.
Here's a little something to grind on,, PLY's running back scored 5 touchdowns and ha 175 yards on Friday. Played at Willard last year. Pinkston scored no TD's caught no passes and made no tackles.--He too played at Willard last year. Like it or not, that's part of the problem---talented kids not suiting up for WHS in 2019.

Pinkston scored no TD's caught no passes and made no tackles.--He too played at Willard last year. Like it or not, that's part of the problem---talented kids not suiting up for WHS in 2019. I wish it was someone else on the other end of this discussion I really do. I don’t enjoy disagreeing with a friend over and over. However I’ve had this same opinion for a loooong time about hiring TF and every day, week, game that goes by cements it. So politely here’s 2 counterpoints to your main 2 talking points and I paraphrase... 1) ‘Fox has great athletes that’s why he’s good.’ Yes this helps, I’ve said before high school success is largely driven on talent. Noss took dials & fey to state, a few years later he won 4 games. I get it. However Fox had no D1 talent to my knowledge at Calvert and was one rare team in the area to consistently challenge and even beat St. Paul. Also we’ve seen tons of coaches with talent screw things up. He didn’t, he took that very good team to state. He’s good. Ask Livengood. 2) ‘Willard’s problem is kids not playing.’ Every school in 2019 has kids walking the halls not playing football. It’s a slowly dying sport. However Willard’s getting clocked by halftime every game. Clocked. Adding a player or two might hold off the running clock until what, mid 3rd? The 4th? I have a wrap up point to both from a coffee discussion with maplecityjake yesterday: Jake mentioned the following regarding some of norwalks elite talent... Haraway might not have played and just concentrated on basketball if not for a quality caring coach like Fox coming in. Leroux left Norwalk unhappy w McFarland and came back to Norwalk why? Because they hired Todd Fox. So yes they had some studs, studs that would (might) not have played if Fox didn’t come in. I put it to the forum that if Willard brings in Fox years ago wins are up, happiness is up and player involvement (I won’t speak for Mr Pinkston he’s been discussed enough here but isn’t it quite possible he’s on the field w a winning Fox program?) is up. So, respectfully, I believe the like it or not applies to both sides of the debate.

I appreciate that side of the argument in a civil way. The grey area lies within the realms of whether they could or could not hire him because of what transpired while he was wrestling coach.
I'm just not buying that the personalities, and or the one or two board members prevented it. That is cutting off your nose to spite your face. Those guys want to win at WHS as bad as anyone. The thing that gets passed over,,,is what event took place first and who was responsible and didn't handle it the way it should have been.
It does sicken me to think of how good our WR program was and where it was heading with TF. To see multiple state champs at different schools who should have been at WHS--it just sucks. But events happen and unfortunate as it is, we are where we are. My College Coach had a saying that we laughed at when he said it,,,but man it sure is true.
"the problem is never the problem. How you handle the problem,,,that's the problem!"

I've seen it in various forms how it's all about the talent that Coach walked into here in Norwalk; therefore, totally undermining anything he's done. All I have to say ......his Resume speaks for itself.

Is it possible that a good coach both knows his X’s and O’s AND can motivate kids to play for him even when he doesn’t coach their primary sport?

What Champions look like. The Willard Champion Flashes Soccer Team. Any boys in Willard that want to be Champions know which team is a team of Champions. Now the rest of the boys in the school need to join the Willard Champion Soccer Train, because the future is going to be fantastic.
