On we go to week 3. The Tigers travel to LaGrange in Lorain County to take on the Keystone Wildcats. This series began in 2011 and Galion has won all 5 meetings. The closest game was in 2014 when Galion won 14-0 in LaGrange. This will be the final meeting between the two schools, however I'm not aware of who will be the week 3 opponent in 2017. Thoughts on this one.....

Keeping it vague by simply stating I believe the Tigers will make it six wins in a row against Keystone

I haven't looked at the team yet on HUDL. I see they won last week, but got blowout the first week. We handed them easily last year, but this year is totally different. I said before, I'll be happy starting 2-1. But I'm with the poster (forgot who it was) if we don't get our penalties, carelessness ball-handling, defense and offense (basically everything) straightened out, we will be lucky to win 3 games this year. There won't be any easy wins after this Friday. It's gonna be a dog-fit to get any wins. Even Fairbanks (on the computer) looks pretty good this year with that quarterback. Go Tigers!!!

I also believe the Tigers will win this one. But they need to work out the kinks. The sloppy ball handling and dumb penalties need cleaned up.

keystone beat lodi cloverleaf last week 14-7 and cloverleaf has no tradition in football,so if keystone barely beat cloverleaf, then galion should handle keystone.the only interesting thing besides the game is counting how many trains go past the stadium during the game. i remember a few years back at keystone during the game with monroevlle{eagles won in a rout}there was 14 trains going by during the game.

Let's have a contest to see who comes the closes on how many trains go by while the game is on. I say there will be 18 trains going by.

I counted 10 both times Galion has played there. Harder to count them now that they are in the new stadium.

They built it for the 2012 season and its in the complex that the new schools are in. The complex is in the industrial park just south of town on SR 301.

20-6 Keystone at halftime. #2 not dressed tonight nor is the injured receiver #7. Galion struggling to move the ball. #19 the backup quarterback threw a pick 6 with :03 in first half. Looks like it will be another long night.

40-6 Keystone is the final. Looks like a long season ahead for the Tigers.

veeeeeerrrrryyyy long season. That was embarrassing. I love my team, but we got to become better tacklers. I thought I was back in Crestline again. I love both teams too (Crestline and Galion), but daammmmnnn that's not the way to play football.

I honestly don't know what to say.
The coaches played the same 16 or so players who weren't executing the whole game. The coaches were apparently too stubborn to make a starter sit for a couple series' while the backup takes their place. It makes me sick to think that 30+ players who had nothing to do with the result of the game will be punished on Monday.
If the starting offense would've been benched for a couple series', what's the worst that could happen? A pick six? Guess what, it happened twice with the starters in.
If the starting defense would've been benched for a couple of series', what's the worst that could happen? Keystone moving the ball at will down the field? Guess what, it happened the whole game.
If anyone should be running on Monday, it should be the starters AND the stubborn coaches.
Forgive me for venting. Guess i should've enjoyed the victory in week one because i believe our toughest 7 games are still ahead of us. My prediction for this season, 2-8. Somehow, i think we will get lucky once more this year. Hope i'm wrong. Anything better will be icing on the cake.

Did the backups get in the game at all? Seems like in a 40-6 game the backups should have gotten some playing time.... How much would having our QB have changed the game?

I don't know exactly, but i know if you have the same guys playing both ways and getting their tails kicked, they aren't getting stronger as the game wears on.
As far as if our starting QB was in, yes, i do believe that we would've done better. Would we have won?.......hmmm, can't say. I think it would've been less likely that we'd have 2 pick 6s. If those drives would've ended with touchdowns, then the score would be keystone 26, galion 20. Considering that our starter runs the offense better and can actually throw the ball beyond the line of scrimmage instead of behind it most of the night tonight, then maybe things would have came out differently.
Make no mistake, keystone looked much faster than us tonight and deserved to win.

I'll agree with MOAC. Keystone did not look like a team that got beat like 45-0 the first game and only won 14-7 this last week. To me, they looked better than Cardington. That's just being honest. They threw and ran the ball effectively. I was impressed with them. But man, our defense did so bad. I heard a guy in the stands complaining on why his son wasn't getting any playing time. He was really complaining. I even agreed that our 2nd unit (younger guys) seem to tackle better. They look more aggressive than our first team defense. I would agree they should have been put in there to get some experience last night. Here's what I can't understand though, why are we using our best tackler / linebacker #33 (Kade Dyer) as a inside cornerback guarding receivers? The man had like 8 tackles against Bucyrus and seemingly took over on defense. Outside in coverage it really hurts us up the middle. I know you can say well we have Chase and Tanner hurt as our cornerbacks. I think Kade is filling in for Chase. But we have a young man who has some talent who can play that position, Charles Reuer. He doesn't have the weight, but that boy has skill. I know he gave up some big touchdowns in a scrimmage game. But he's gonna be a star in the next couple years at Galion, give him the experience now and move Kade back to linebacker. We are getting killed up the middle on these runs. It makes no sense to me. Kade as a cornerback has made no impact for the team. He's not being effective in that position. I agree (though I don't want to) we will be lucky to be 2-8 this season. I'm trying to see who we could possibly beat. I thought maybe Fairbanks, but hell I think they won like 45-0 last night and are putting up some big passing numbers.

WTF. I realize that we are young and inexperienced. But here is what we learned tonight. We are much worse than I thought we were. Cardington is not nearly as good as I'd hoped they were. We may not have another winnable game on our schedule. MOACfan, I understand your frustration. I do. But here is why you can't just bench the starters and put the 2's in for a couple of series. There is a quarter limit in high school. If you play them early and consequently can't field a jv team today then what have you really accomplished? Now they don't have chance to compete against like competition and actually improve.

The quarter limit is daily and over the season, no weekly. So playing them on Friday has no affect on limiting them Saturday. Only fatigue would enter into that.

I welcome the agreement and disagreement. Fyi, galiontiger, that man you heard was not me I might (was) have been a bit emotional in my first post last night, but after rereading it, i still stand by my points. I might mention some names here but will do it diplomatically. We clearly dont have a tailback like the one we had last year and there is clearly a talent gap between Chase and his backup. The obvious gap is in arm strength but the more important one is is as a game manager. So without Chase and without our recieving corps at 100% we go from a competitive team to the conference doormat. We really miss the o-line of last year as the young bunch just isnt able to guarantee 1 or 2 yards when needed. One thing i just have to get off my chest is that when you run a reverse, the guy taking the 2nd handoff CANNOT stop the flow of the play where he took the handoff and go forward instead because that is where all the pursuit was coming from to tackle the first handoff.

No, Hudson...it was the best move I could have made for him. Yes, he's hurt now. Yes, we might not win another game. But last year put his name out there going into the playoffs and 24 football camps this summer kept his name out there. We are headed to Ashland University here in 30 minutes for a game invite. This is going to be tough season, but it isn't over yet. Hopefully we will learn from our mistakes. I still haven't lost faith yet in my team. We just need to get back to full strength as soon as possible. With all the young kids, when you have a top receiver/tackler in the secondary and a 6'4" 280 lineman go down...whoops and your starting quarterback its difficult for the younger guys to get the job done. Hopefully they are fast learners. What gets me is all the miss tackles. One play 2 yard loss..very next play 18 yard gain...one yard loss...25 yard passing gain.

Believing you have to change school to get a college to see you is untrue. Players from any school can attend 24 camps and be noticed. Many have.

Well All District, I guess it would depend on what type of scholarship you would want to get for your son. It didn't do Danny Clark very bad...changed to Massillon got an Ohio State scholarship as a freshman. So you can't say it hurt the man. Then when Massillon was tanking he transferred to Akron Hoban, a state championship team with an OSU running back recruit (well who transferred now I think I read or got in trouble).
Would a Division 1 College football team, take a great high school quarterback who played on a Division 7 team? (not saying my son is a great quarterback now either.) Or would they look at another quarterback who was the same size who played on a Division 1 or Division 2 high school football team? Wouldn't the level of competition you played against weigh into their decision? I would think so. You are right he can impress them at camps, but they still would want to see how successful you and your team is.
We went to a game visit last night at Ashland and the first question they asked my son was, "Is your team 3-0 now?" Not how have you been doing or how have you been throwing the ball? Just that.
There was a lot more that went in to the move other than just wins and losses and division size. I was worried that my son was going to get hurt. As soon as he hiked the ball at Crestline, the defenders were blasting thru the holes and chasing his butt. It wasn't that the Crestline offensive line was bad, they were big kids, but when you suit up like 30 kids on a team, and you are going against other teams that have 60 plus kids on a team. You get wore down quick. I just wanted a better line for him on a larger team. I wanted a better off-season workout program with a team who was focused on success. I wanted a community that lived and breathed football. I wanted a chance to test his skills against better players. I got all that for him and then some. I'm extremely happy with our move. It was the best decision I have made for him. Now my next task is getting my oldest son, Codi on the Tiffin University football team by next year. I want to show that team how good he is as a wide receiver.

Why not Mansfield Senior? Would play against MUCH better competition than in the MOAC. Would have MUCH better athletes to throw to. Why not Ashland HS? Several of their players have made it to AU in recent years. The AU coaches could see him play every home game by just walking down the street. Another schedule MUCH better than Galion's. Why not Wynford? A lot more visibility, they make good tournament runs every year. Why not Wooster? You say you work there. Another top notch OCC program. Also with a college in town.

Asked if 3-0 but not you division.
We all know kids who have changed schools to win games and have played ball after high school, but we all probably know kids who have not moved and done the same. Thinking you have to move is untrue. Unless you are not good enough to get them to come and see you.

WF...I answered this in a post before. We both just liked Galion. Galion High school a "3-street turn" from Chase's house in Crestline..about 3 1/2 miles. I knew Chase wanted to be close to Crestline..friends and family. Though I will say when we moved; we moved. I was surprised I thought he would be flipping from house-to-house, he never has. He was committed to Galion. We were asked to move to Wynford (not by any coaches). My son didn't like Wynford. We never talked about Mansfield Senior. I asked about Ontario though. My son didn't want any other school other than Galion. Wooster would have been soooo much more convenient to me, that would have been the easiest move for me. But this wasn't about me, just what Chase wanted. Now did I push the issue of having to make the move, of course. I can't lie.
Scooter...I'll agree with you on most of what you said. I just think sometimes its just better to move to see what you got and how good you can become.

OK galiontiger, you might want to know a little history here. Ashland's head coach, Lee Owens, was the coach at Galion when we won the state championship in '85. Coach Stacy was his OC then as well. They pay attention. They know the answers to all of those questions already.
