It has been almost 28 years since the girls have had won a league title, will they ever have a chance to compete for the league? I think the biggest problem is that many of the athletes don't play BB. If you look at all of the Girl's sports at Galion VB, Tennis, Golf, swimming, XC, Track, Softball and soccer. Many have won league championships and have made long runs in tournament play. It's sad that no VB players who made it to regionals this year is not even playing on the team. This is sad, from club VB and indoor track they stay away from basketball. Can I pose this question, why do these girls don't play basketball and help out the program. The only time the girls were somewhat descent was in 2012-2013 when they won 8 games because they had a girl who avg. 40 ppg and another girl who avg.a double double.

I don't know the exact amount, but in the 2010's there has been at least 4. I know there is a lot of turnover every few years, but any good coach can come in and still struggle because the kids are not coming out. Right now the coach is an alum who played and is well liked, so why isn't girls coming out? Heck the girls program has struggled since the late 90's. The other girls sports have seen a great seasons lately. I would like to see some of the VB and track athletes to play BB to win some games and a coach would be there for five to ten years.

Do you really want to know why? There is no feeder program at the elementary levels like there is with vball. The vball coach gets the top tier athletes for the most part and since she's also the hurdles coach in track we get a lot crossover between the two sports. Until recently, I've had kids involved with the girls bball program for about the last 16 years. There have been 8 different coaches in that time frame. Up until this current one none of them really dealt with the feeder programs, or lack thereof much. Give this current coach a few years and she'll get it straightened out. She did a great job at St Petes before this.

There is your answer... Too much turnover.. To make a struggling program work, someone has to be willing to accept the fact, they will not turn it around in one year, two years, but maybe in 5 years.. The "new" coach MUST go down to the lower levels, bring his varsity girls with him..and do a complete overhaul of the biddy program... The coach being involved in that lower level increases a togetherness, a loyalty that sticks with these young kids.. That 4th and 5th grade group is where it turns around... They bought into your program... Stop blame game of other sports...Because those other sports are already doing what I am talking about... Commitment in your youth gives you results for your future..

One of the reasons that Galion Girls basketball is awful, is because every time that they get just a smidgen of traction, something/someone comes along and flattens the tires. This could come in the form of a Jill Wilt, who crippled the program during her reign as VB coach. Or in the form of a pay-to-play program, 20 years ago (that really hurt the SB team more than GBB, but helped neither), as who could blame kids/parents for not wishing to "invest" in an 0-22 season. Or the cavalcade of coaches that have been following the ghost of Tim Souder (who saw the writing on the wall and left for the Bucyrus GBB job....kinda a reverse Justin Mattix). Then there are parents like this buffoon that think some girl averaged 40 on an 8 win team, and another averaged a double/double. Even the best (like your CURRENT coach) players in the history of the school didn't AVERAGE even 30, let alone 40. Reality is only an option in Tigertown it appears....... Is weed legal in Crawfish County?

Not legal but clearly used liberally by some.

Is weed legal in Crawfish County? Fairly on point with most of this. However the whole pay to play thing was a joke. The max cap on it was like 40 bucks total for the entire year(yeah I had to pay it for my daughters a while). Also, if you qualified for free/reduced lunch(as about 70% of the student body did) the fees were waived so really it was a non issue. Recently it has mostly to do with the 8 coaches in 16 years, With the exception of 2 of them it has been pretty brutal. Our recently departed boys coach looked like a seasoned veteran next to 6 of them.
