Ontario 71, CF 52
Ontario made a bunch of 3-pointers. Ontario's two Soph starting guards from last year, Shaver and Kurtz, combined for 42. Coburn and Mott also scored in double figures. Balogh rotated 9 players, 8 scoring. Rebounding is Ontario's weakness, they have four 6-4 players and three 6-3 players, but were out rebounded by Clear Fork. Ontario's 6-1 PG was their leading rebounder.
Clear Fork wins Freshman game 40-36
Ontario wins JV game 52-29

Forty-four years and counting since Galion last won a league championship in (boys) basketball (1975). Enough is enough all ready. Geez......

Shelby has an athletic team and Pugh is a handful. 6-6, strong with good handles. They shot 60% from the field and 12 of 14 at the line. Most of their points came on drives and dishes and offensive rebounds. Several were unbelievable off balance shots. They only attempted 8 3-pointers making 3. Ontario didn't shoot bad making 48%, but were killed on the boards again 34-19. Losing 6-4 Chance Mott early in the 2nd quarter when he injured the knee he had surgery on last year didn't help. Rebounding is 90% desire and right now only PG shaver is showing any desire to rebound. Pugh and Shaver both had 28 points, leaving little doubt they're 2 of the best players in North Central Ohio.
Ontario cut the lead to 2 with about 3 minutes to go in the 4th, then missed 3 out of 4 free throws. Shelby made their free throws late in the 4th to pull ahead..
Ontario won the JV game 36-29 and Shelby won the Frosh game.

Impressive win for the Whippetts! Watched this game on tv and I was a little surprised how many lay-ups that Shelby was getting. Announcers had Shelby scoring on 30 of 51 shots and 15 or even 20 of those made shots were lay-ups. They are very quick and can get to the rim often.

Is the Mott kid going to be okay? Its so tough to see a kid battle back from an injury to have a set-back so early in the season is hard to watch. I watched the game but didn't see how it happened. Hoping for the best.
