Who will the big dog of the KMAC be now that Highland is gone?

I think there is a lot of balance in the KMAC. Hate to see Highland leave, but for scheduling reasons I def think we need to add an 8th team. Maybe Lucas? They're independent.

Lucas or Loudonville would be the obvious choices and I am sure a dogfight between those two. Crestline would I'm sure put in an application even though they just accepted a spot in the NWCC.

Lucas guy here, and I could almost guarantee Lucas would be more than willing to join. As an Independent in football, scheduling has proven to be tough over the last few years.

No thoughts of Utica?

I would think the preferred options would be in this order:
Lucas Loudonville (I think old MBC) Utica (old MBC) Crestline (Old MOC)

Is Utica looking? I know the other 3 are.

Do not forget that the entire league is in the Central District and that is a factor. I'm not saying that your guess is wrong but I think it does matter.

Utica is preferred because they are in the Central District. However, it shouldn't be too difficult for Lucas or Loudonville to be put in the Central District if they request the OHSAA to do so.

If Lucas wanted to be a Central District school they could have already applied for the change. They do not boarder the Central District so this would be a bit of a jump to be accepted.

I think Lucas and Loudonville would be preferred by Northmor and Purple for quicker travel.
I think the Knox County schools would prefer Utica or Loudonville with old MBC rivalries particularly with Utica.
Crestline has ties to the old MOC as well and is a short drive for Northmor.
Still hoping Highland stays but 🤷♂️

Even if all KMAC schools are in the Central Distrxt, Why in the heck would they care if one of their members isn't??

I personally don't care. Not sure if the athletic departments would for some reason or not.

What you perceive as importance to Highland, is not what they're looking for. "More opportunities for their athletes". The smallish schools of the KMAC couldn't supply that.

You're correct that what I think they should value is not what they value. And it's true that the MOAC will provide them varsity soccer opportunities. I believe they'll struggle in the vast majority of athletics and that will long term lead to lesser gates. But that's Highland's thing to figure out.

The shortage of JH and JV teams was a big part of the reason for this move. They did not want to make a change it was more they felt they had to for their sports teams below varsity.

whoever it is, they won't start playing in the KMAC until 2022 That can depend on who joins. Just because Highland didn't cancel any of their contracts during departure doesn't mean the other schools couldn't when they find a replacement.

I believe they'll struggle in the vast majority of athletics and that will long term lead to lesser gates. But that's Highland's thing to figure out. Not just soccer. More JV and Freshman games in all sports and more competitors in CC, wrestling, swimming, golf and tennis. As well as stiffer competitions in sports. The lack of that in the KMAC is one of the reasons they will "struggle". Going forward, the better competition will improve their teams. Instead of being by far the largest school in the KMAC, they will be just below average in the MOAC. Larger than Galion and Pleasant and only around 10% smaller than Ontario, Shelby and 20% smaller than RV. Not that size matters, ask Pleasant.

I can't believe anyone within BV administration thought this was a good idea. There's no geographic, cultural or athletic fit...and it's not even close. And my guess is their gates took an unbelievable hit. Those MSL team don't travel at all.
