Won't be many Ontario fans at the Shelby game on Saturday. Shelby gave Ontario all of 120 tickets. 65 go to player and cheerleader families, leaving 55 for the general public.

Judging by the empty stands I see from pictures and videos at Shelby games, I don't think fans of either team will have a problem getting a ticket. Shelby was very wise to not opt for a larger gym when the new high school was built.

I am not going to consider it a shock or failure if this Shelby team winds up going 7-5 the rest of the season and goes 16-6 going into the tournament.
The margin of victory in Shelby's nine wins:
9 9 2 9 10 28 (Galion) 18 (Clyde) 10
Going into the second round of MOAC contests, I need to see this Shelby team dominate more games if I am going to have faith in them making any sort of run into Districts. This team has the talent and defensive skills to rack up those 15-20 point victories, but they haven't strung together a game to prove it out.
Looking towards the second half of the season, the teams I can imagine beating Shelby are Ontario, Willard, Marion Harding, Lexington, and Mansfield. Being largely unable to beat a team by more than 10 points tells me that Shelby is exposed to having a slightly off night and losing games which are otherwise winnable. I think every remaining game is reasonably winnable. This Ontario game tomorrow will be a litmus test for how Shelby can maintain their success as the season matures and teams have a better identity for themselves.

IF that is true what I am saying is they will not all be gone presale and there will be many available at the door. That gym has not sold out since that school was built.

Shelby never gives away a major amount of tickets for pre-sale. They know they will get most of them back. So like most places they give a few for convenience and then sell the rest at the door. I see this as a easier accounting process instead of tracking 500 at another school. Pat is a smart guy. My guess is even the small amount they sent to another school they still get some back.

Truckers gift-wrapped that one.

If you’re going to attempt to dunk on a breakaway, don’t embarrass yourself. Yikes.

Shelby-63 Ontario-61 final Shelby wins on a last second put back on a miss by Pugh. Ontario totally gave the ball away in the 4th Shelby with a 19-6 4th Qt for the comeback A tale of 2 halves. Ontario was up by as many as 19 in the first half. Running their offense and getting the shots they wanted, Shelby's defense was passive. Shaver had 20 in the first half. Shelby started with Pugh on him, that was a big mistake, Shaver was way to quick for him. Then Devito, not much better. Gossom was the answer in the 2nd half, holding him to 6. Shaver defended Pugh the entire game, frustrating him in the first half as he was held to 7. In the 2nd half Pugh used his strength more and it resulted in 16 2nd half points. Shelby's coach used a frenetic full court press in the 2nd half that resulted in 11 turnovers, compared to 6 in the first half. Shelby made more foul shots than Ontario attempted. Congrats to Shelby on the MOAC Title, their first league title in around 10 years. Ontario JVs 10-0 on the season with a 58-54 win. A similar game to the varsity, after leading Shelby by 17. Freshmen also win again. The future looks bright for the next Ontario head coach.

I’m fairly sure it was Pugh. Would have been fine to go up with two hands, but tried for an aggressive one-handed slam. At that point in the game, the Whippets needed the points more than an emphatic dunk.

This game was wild to watch. It was comical listening to the WMFD announcers bias. Comments made on calls that they said were obvious or outstanding that were bad or questionable when made on the other end. It was also interesting to watch old time official John Supon on tv who over the year has definitely supported Ontario while wearing stripes. On the whistle that tied the game in the fourth, the Shelby player was without doubt in the act of shooting when the foul occurred. On the signal to count the bucket Supon looks immediately at the Ontario bench while the head coach is calmly removing his coat. Always good to see some good high school basketball and this one did not disappoint. For the first three quarters it went to one team and then in the 4th quarter the script was switched to make an exciting ending. Two good teams.
