Figured I’d start a new thread.
Big news today(although everyone pretty much knew it was going to happen) as Kerry Coombs will be rejoining the staff as the defensive coordinator. Huge news not just from a coaching aspect but also recruiting.

Forgive me for asking; why is this huge for recruitment? Doesn't OSU already sell itself to certain recruits like UK Basketball?

You're behind the times. Ryan Day is a HUGE proponent of selling high school players and their parents on "family" at Ohio State. Schools and programs can't sell that. It takes very personable position coaches. It also helps that he recruited the 3 DBs that will be drafted high this year AND 5 DBs that he recruited and developed were taken in the 1st round in his previous stint at Ohio State.
You're forgiven.

Forgive me for asking; why is this huge for recruitment? Doesn't OSU already sell itself to certain recruits like UK Basketball? Of course Ohio State can sell itself, but you still need people that know how to recruit and can recruit well. During Coombs years at Ohio State he was always known as one of the best recruiters. And he was known as a great DB coach so top high school DB’s will want to play for him. I saw a stat earlier today that during his years at Ohio State, every one of his secondary starters made it to the NFL. Good enough answer for you?

Football is also a bit different than basketball in that players will commit to their position coaches whereas in basketball players will commit to the head coach more often. An example would be Cam Martinez from Michigan. When Hafley left, he waited to sign with Ohio State as he had a good relationship with Hafley. Even though it’s Ohio State he still didn’t like that his position coach was leaving. Same goes for D-line players, they will commit to Larry Johnson.

In some ways, for football, the position coach is their head coach. It's the guy they will take instruction from every day in practice and film. The head football coach works with and organizes the coaching staff. Unless he is also the OC or special teams coach.

don't feed the troll guys Even trolls eat crow. I've had my fair share of crow with some tasty side dishes. Medium rare with mushrooms and carmelized onions. Many a time, no steak sauce required because it was that good. However, I'm not sure how this is the case at present.

Cameron Martinez has reaffirmed his commitment to Ohio State and will be signing with them. Huge to keep him in this class, a lot of it has to do with Coombs.

thoughts on Stroud and Fleming dropping in some rankings? In the 247 rankings I believe Stroud was given a 5th star and Fleming is still the #1 receiver but Jaxon Smith Njigba has moved up to the #2 ranked receiver and a 5 star.

Riep and Whent suspended from the team as they have been charged with rape and kidnapping.
What the hell are they thinking? If found guilty, they’re throwing their lives away. Crazy.

Quite a story that I’ve read . It will be a he said she said situation. Far from finished . As part of the evening was consensual that she admits to and then it goes to two peoples versions of events.

Rumblings that Stover is moving to TE from DE. Could be experimental, or perhaps insurance if one of the current TE's decides to hit the portal. Hausmann could be a candidate after graduation. Perhaps he sees the writing on the wall splitting reps between Farrell and Ruckert. Will be interesting to see how this plays out in the Spring.

No brainer by Day cutting those morons loose.
It is a he said she said, but to file two F1 charges on the basis of a he said, she said....... there’s more compelling evidence along with her statement.
If found guilty their looking at possibly decades behind bars. This though brings up an entitlement issue these college athletes have. Whether it’s created by them and others around them and “us”in a non-direct way of being fans, this behavior is incomprehensible to normal people.

Solves the problem of over signing. As coaches always say, "These things have a way of working themselves out." CJ Saunders might now get a scholarship, if awarded a 6th year.

From the human standpoint, I'm a little surprised this happened so fast. I mean innocent until proven guilty is still the law of the land. Obviously if theres' more info out there than what what we are privy to then I guess all bets are off. I'll say this and I think It's a somewhat safe conclusion at least to me,,if these two guys were starters coming back,,,uhmm I am thinking they would not be booted this quickly. Not to say they would get off scott free,,but Damon Webb was given a lot of latitude a few years back in a similar situation.

Riep was a projected starter at corner so apparently Day has a much different conclusion than you. Also Damon Webb was never charged with anything let alone two first degree felonies for rape and kidnapping.

I don't know about that. I would think it is very unlikely any school could hit the jackpot every year, like Ohio State did last year with Jonah Jackson. I'm not aware of any All-League corners from a Power Five conference in the Portal this year, like Jackson last year.

They don’t have to be all League, Ohio State could add 1 or 2 just to at least have depth in case of injuries or anything else.

Jonah Jackson was. Is an also ran corner from a non Power Five conference better than a 4-Star Frosh or Soph Ohio State recruit?

Well considering there aren’t any other current seniors to sign(unless there’s one that still hasn’t?) then grad transfer would be the only other way to go if they want to add someone to the secondary for depth for a year or two.
