Losing respect for Herbie. He is so careful not to show favoritism to OSU, but put his kids at Clemson and he can’t stop gushing over them. Maybe he’s hoping it will move them up the depth chart. Your imagining things again You mean you’re and I don’t know what part of my comment you’re referring to.

Use your imagination. Apparently I have a good one since I am imagining things. I wouldn’t even begin to try to figure you out, WF.

Why does Herbstriet hate Ohio State so much ? He's hated the Buckeyes for a long time, Yet he played here, I don't get it.

I don’t honestly think Herbie hates the buckeyes. I do however think he tries really hard not to project his favoritism so he comes off the way he does. At the end of the day you know what he is thinking and bleeds for the scarlet and grey!

As we all have been saying for a long time now, it’s becoming more clear that the season will come down to Ohio State, Clemson, or Alabama again. Seeing some of these other teams around the country play and it’s clear those 3 are separating themselves from everyone else.

Looks like another Joe Burrow story is unfolding. One has to marvel at the amazing performance of DeVonta Smith, with 11 catches for 203 yds, 4 TD's this week. He has amassed 759 yds. receiving on the year, averaging 13.5 ypc and a total of 8 TD's.
Just like Joe last year, very happy for DeVonta!

Ohio State Will make the playoffs, but have to figure out something with their secondary to win it. Bighoss had a good response to that, and I'm in complete agreement with him. Losing Cam Brown was a big loss, but this coaching staff will develop the talent we have and have them playing well, with marked game by game improvement. What I saw was good coverage most of the early part of the game, but when they went into Tressel mode, straight handoffs offensively and it was apparent, the defensive secondary were instructed to not surrender the big play and keep everything in front of them. Consequently, coverage got softer and more underneath stuff from PSU. No one is arguing the fact, this secondary, consisting of talented players, with little game experience, is a work in progress. The coaches have a perfect stretch of opponents, to patiently develop them into a cohesive and reliable unit. Bighoss: Buckeyes secondary played better than most here are giving credit. They completely shutdown Penn St’s receivers in the first half. Penn St made adjustments at half that included using short crossing routes that eventually loosened up the outside. Wade looked disinterested for some reason in the 4th qt, which was very odd. Penn St isn’t recruiting bums like a certain school up north. Let’s not forget Ohio St had 2 corners selected in the top 19 of the draft. No school is not going to take a drop after that

There is no doubt Ohio State, Clemson, and Alabama are a cut above the rest. I don’t believe that is a shocker, but I really wonder why the heck no one else is able to make that climb. It has seems the last few years it’s been these three with a couple others sneaking in, but consistently the same three remain.
I shouldn’t be too hard on the secondary, I just see the guys catching balls for Bama and Clemson and think, we can’t do that against Penn State and expect better when we play the real elite WR’s.

I shouldn’t be too hard on the secondary, I just see the guys catching balls for Bama and Clemson and think, we can’t do that against Penn State and expect better when we play the real elite WR’s. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Oh, but we did do it against Penn State. Remember, arguably, we held them to one legitimate FG 1st half and we never got burned on a deep pass. Have confidence that Coach Day meant what he said, when he uttered "This could have been a once in-in-a-lifetime team" - August 12, 2020. The kids stepping in, were among the best in the country, when they were recruited out of high school and this is Ohio State, next man up. Why has no one else been able to make the climb? One word.....recruiting Right now, Bama, Ohio State and Clemson get their major share of the top recruits and have the best coaching staffs and the history. Georgia and to a lesser degree, Oklahoma are just a shade off the big three. Please take the time to ponder this man's comments, through that most difficult period. These quotes won't be forgotten anytime soon. The guy's a man of action and soon took a very well planned and executed course of action, that made something happen, that most said was a virtual impossibility. This guy is not your ordinary, everyday coach. We are slowly learning, he is cut from a different cloth and just how special he is, we will all learn, game by game, season by season. (These excerpts, taken from 11 Warriors.) Ryan Day, Head Coach 🎥 Watch press conference On reacting to the news:I have a range of emotions – sad, angry, frustrated – and I think our players do as well. But they’re a mature group. You’d really be impressed at the way they’ve handled themselves. They feel like they’ve had something taken away from them, but at the same time, we’re really getting focused on what’s next. We owe that to these guys.On how difficult it would be to not coach this current team:I’ll get emotional if I start thinking about it. As a player, you work your whole life – and as a coach, you coach your whole life – to get a chance to have a team like this. This team is special. It’s special because it has talent. It’s special because it has leadership. It’s special because of the character. It could’ve been a once-in-a-lifetime team. There was just something about this team that had it.On addressing team after news broke:One of the hardest conversations I’ve ever had to have. To have to look guys like Jonathon Cooper in the eye, Justin Hilliard, Justin Fields, Josh Myers, Tuf Borland, Pete Werner, Baron Browning, Shaun Wade, Sevyn Banks – there’s so many guys who’ve put so much time into this program. It was an awful meeting, but the message was that in life, things get taken from you. Although it’s hard, they’ll use this as a reference point when things go bad in their life. We learn a lot of life lessons in football, and we’re going to have to learn how to work through this. Our culture is built on fight. We got to fight to stay strong. You don’t just wake up the next morning and everything’s fine. Not when you invest this much time and effort into it. It’s not fine. It’s devastating. It’s going to take some time to heal, but as we keep putting one foot in front of the other, we’re going to get going again. On how he addressed Cooper, specifically: I told him ‘I can’t explain why this is happening to you.’ Life can take you to your knees. This sport can take you to your knees. But it’ll make him stronger in the end. He’s going to have a bright future no matter what. He’s an unbelievable young man who’s had an impact on this program. On how players and parents spoke out: From the get go, the voices of our players and our parents were very, very important. It’s one thing for a coach to sit up and say it’s safe. It’s another thing to have our players and parents speak up for the way they feel. I thought their voices were strong. It’s hard for me to look them in the eye after everything that’s been done, and we’re still not playing football. There’s been a lot of sacrifices made by a lot of people. Right now, we got nothing to show for that. That’s not an easy call.On possibility of playing any sort of games this fall:That’s a fluid situation. We’re still exploring all options. This thing is moving. It’s changing. We are looking at everything. I promise you that. We owe it to our kids to do that.

Add to the above.
Ryan day when addressing the team about continuing to work, staying healthy and being ready during the uncertainty. "One day they will put the ball down." Being an ex-player, every time I hear/read that it brings a tear to my eye.
BTW...with that win, Ohio State is now 23-1 against Penn State, Wisconsin and Michigan since Urban arrived in Columbus.

56-1

Ohio State starts 3 cornerbacks. They now only have 4 CBs on the roster who are upper classmen. After that it's Freshman.

Cameron Brown tore Achilles vs PSU and is out for season hurting depth at the corner back position Not what we want to hear, but what I suspected was going to be the case. They should be okay since they usually carry 8 or 9 CB on a roster and most of the 7 or 8 safeties have played CB as well. Between those two groups they should have a player to fill the spot. In those numbers there may be a freshman that gets considered, but most of them are upperclassmen.

The biggest mystery continues on the status of highly recruited Lejond Cavazos. A 4* safety out of IMG Academy and formerly of Seguin, Texas. Lejond was clocked at 4.4 in the 40 his senior year and has good size, at 6-1 196 and what made him even more appealing was his early enrollment on Jan. 6, 2020. Lejond has been absent from the scene and the OSU coaching staff has been tight lipped, not revealing a clue as to the situation. I'm thinking it's not academics, since OSU has been totally avoiding borderline prospects. Borderline student/athletes, usually are less coachable and pose a potential for a host of issues on down the road.
Ryan Day went hard for the safety position in the 2020 recruiting class, acquiring 4* Ryan Watts from Little Elm, Texas and 4* Lathan Ranson from Tucson, Arizona.
FLASH: I just answered my question on Lejond. This quote from coach Coombs on November 3rd:
Coombs also mentioned "true freshmen Ryan Watts, Lejond Cavazos (who is close to returning from a knee injury) and Cameron Martinez as guys that will need to step up at corner for OSU with Brown out."

Lets see the tests! No positive tests 4 days ago before the Penn State game?? All players are to be tested the day of games. They decide on Wednesday? Go with who you've got. This is the best way for Maryland to finish with above a .500 record this year.

The Ohio State/Maryland game cancellation is certainly not good news for Indiana. The Buckeyes have two weeks to prepare for Indiana, while the Hoosiers focus is on MSU.

What If Indian says they found enough cases to cancel the Ohio State game? They both win out and Indiana has one more win than Ohio State. It then goes to criteria, which is record of teams beaten in cross division games. Ohio State has games with Nebraska and Illinois. Indiana plays Wisconsin and Purdue. Check the probable records. It will not matter who is obviously the superior team

It will not matter who is obviously the superior team I think you hit on the dark underside of using the Covid situation as a tool to improve a teams positioning. There remains a possibility, Maryland may have done that very thing, by avoiding what, most likely was a loss, by using their Covid reports to their best advantage. Could they have played, minus the couple athletes that tested positive and a full team getting the negative testing required? I'm guessing, if they had the will, it could have happened. Could Indiana avoid playing a team that they are heavy underdogs and instantly enhance their post season standings in the Big Ten and post season bowl assignment? Kinda makes one a bit nervous, if you are Ohio State, because every team on their schedule could potentially, opt out and avoid the loss. All it would take, is one false positive and a little manipulation of the facts as they were.
