Most teams have four league games remaining. Shelby is in complete control with a 2 game lead. Ontario could have a 2 game lead for the runner up spot after Thursday night. Galion has secured their place at the bottom of the standings. I was wrong in picking Shelby 4th.

Seemingly, the Tigers want to be in last place, so they can garner the #1 draft pick for next year...…...oooops……….wait...…...that's the NBA; not high school basketball. I don't think that even the #1 draft pick could help. It wouldn't hurt, but I doubt it would really help.

There needs to be a city wide campaign in Shelby to figure out how to teach our youth to make three pointers.
Shelby looked awesome in the first quarter, and then they couldn't piece things together. I think they played good defensively, but there were 5-8 very make-able layups that Shelby missed. Some definitely led to easy Harding baskets.
Once again, Shelby has gotta win some of these games by more than ten points if I'm going to be comfortably planning a weekend at Districts.

Ontario 78, River Valley 74
RV started out slow with only 7 1st quarter points. Ontario led by as many as 18, but once again had a problem finishing a game. As they did in close losses to Shelby and Lucas. Again a lot of missed free throws when RV was fouling to get the ball back. A LOT of three pointers were raining down in this game. Ontario had 4 players with 15 or more points with Shaver leading the way with 26, all 4 made at least three 3-pointers. Johnson led RV with around 30.
RV won Freshman game 48-45 after leading by 12. Ontario JVs lost their first game of the season 62-58 after trailing by 22.

They have earned their record but I see them losing at least four of the last 9 games. I don't see the Whippets making it to the district title game. They may not make it from sectionals. Huron and Upper Sandusky are good. Ontario, Norwalk and Clear Fork would like to play the Whippets again. Lexington and Mansfield Senior are still on the schedule and will not back down from SHS. The 12-1 record is impressive but misleading. The MOAC had ZERO teams play in district championship games last year. I don't see any MOAC teams making it to the district finals this year either. Good league games (other than Galion games) but no elite teams. I would like to see Ontario vs Shelby part III.

Can't say it much better than that. This team flies as close to the sun without getting burned as I've seen for a 12-1 team. I think they can compete with any team in the District (even Upper), but we could very easily be 9-4 if they played this schedule multiple times over. I'll give credit that Shelby can put games away, and our ceiling is as high as any around here, but no outside shooting and being unable to put teams to bed in a convincing fashion holds this team back.

What are the chances Ross stealing one from Harding tonight? Little Giants are 3-12 and Harding and Columbian may be only chances for wins the rest of the year.

Ontario with 4 players in double figures again. Led by Shaver with 19, 10 coming in the 1st quarter. South had 19 for CF. Ontario played really well defensively and offense in the first half. CF got it down to 9 in the 4th, but Ontario handled their press at the end. CF won the Freshman game 50-45. Their coaches wanting to assure one win on the night played their 6-4 Freshman post the 2nd half of the Freshman game, to bring them back from a 10 point deficit in the 1st half. He also started and played all 4 quarters in the JV game.

River Valley beats Pleasant by 7. Marion Harding is trending downward. 11 of Ross' 12 losses are by double figures with 8 losses by 20+. Presidents have lost 5 of the last 6. The one win a 4 pointer over Galion.

Are you sure that he played 6 quarters that night?

Played the 3rd and 4th quarter of the Freshman game. Started and played all 4 quarters in the JV game. Gonna be a good one. That would be akin to playing a Soph the 3rd and 4th quarters of the JV game, as well as starting and playing all 4 quarters in the varsity game.

He is about 6-2 or 3 and has been playing all freshman and some jv but he is getting better. Old baseball coach's kid. if we are talking about the same person.

Nothing illegal done, at best atypical. Basketball players can play in a maximum of 6 quarters/day. If playing in 2 contests in a day, most always 3 or 4 are played at the lower level and 3 or 2 at the higher level. Ontario does it with 2 Juniors, who play 3 quarters in the JV game and and 1 or 2 quarters in the varsity game, if it's a blow out.
I didn't have a program. Just compared to Ontario's 6-5 Soph on JV team. To me the CF kid looked to be an inch shorter.

Someone can confirm or correct me, but I think things changed a few years ago. I think it’s quarters per year now with no restrictions on quarters per day. With the new rule a kid could use their quarters up mid season.

Sounds like people at Ontario do not know the rules but would rather make up reasons for losing a freshman game. The Riddle kids has been playing with the freshman all season. His jv time was the change not his time in the freshman game. but 6 quarters in a day is illegal so you know in the future.
