The game wasn't even half over and the Sooner defense had their hands on their knees and were sucking wind. I swear there were at least two faked injuries to give the 'D' a breather.
To begin the game we all got an extra heavy dose of Baker Mayfield from the announcers and color analysts. "Baker Mayfield this" and Baker Mayfield that". The Buckeye defense did a superb job of taking Baker Mayfield from the discussion line.
The speed and mobility of this team, on both sides of the ball is amazing, and to ponder just how good this team of youngsters may develop by seasons end is a little scary. A team so young and inexperienced, went into Norman, under the most hostile of environments and played with absolute poise and confidence.
It's great to be a Buckeye!

It happened in the Texas/Cal game last night as well....
What are replay officials looking at? It's clear as day these guys dropped the ball before reaching the end zone.

Awesome win, awful officiating, they missed the dropped ball on the kickoff return and they missed at least (2) blatant face masks.
Man that was fun to watch!

Once again, Ohio State has shown the nation that they looked more impressive in their win, than Alabama did in their's. The Buckeye's beat #14 (OU) handily, And the Tide struggles again with #19 (Ole Miss.). It's time for the NCAA to start showing the B1G a little more respect, and less to the eSECpn. Should be Ohio State #1, Bama 2, Toss up for 3 TSUN, Clemson, Louiville.

In reality the botched call would have made very little difference since ParRis Campbell was just as dumb as Mixon. There was also another Oklahoma player there to recover the "fumble".
By rule if no one tries to recover a fumble the official only has to wait a "moment" before blowing the play dead. At that point Oklahoma, the team with last possession, would have been given the ball at the 1-2 yard line. The point where the ball was "fumbled", before it crossed the goal line. Oklahoma most probably would have scored a TD anyway.
Yep, Urban will tell his players to fall on EVERY ball dropped in the end zone, regardless of how embarrassing it might be.
The thing about this game, even though the final score was 45-21, there were A LOT of mistakes made by young players AND by the coaching staff. With a week off there will be much to work on.

If you look closely Brown didn't even cup the ball with the palm of his right hand on the defender's back. He did it with his hand formed into a fist. thev

I txted a buddy last night on the Buckeyes first possession, our o-line just dwarfed the Sooner defensive line...it was blatantly noticeable.
Pat Elflein is the only C i have ever seen who stands out TV. That young man can move. I dunno what his 40 time is and i don't really care, he is quick as all get out.
Good win. Spartans look pretty good again. We'll see about UM.

My thinking is the fumble would remain a 'live' ball till someone claims it. Amazing how three players, thoroughly schooled on the game of football and a game official, none of which had the wits to decipher the situation. I still don't get the latest trend to drop the ball at or near the goal line. Used to be, the ball carrier hung on to his prize and surrendered it to the nearest game official.

Apparently in the world of punt and/or kickoff returners, the single most important issue for them to be considered "legit" among their peers, is to see who can drop the ball closest to the goal line when they return one for a TD.

If every score is reviewed how was that not caught?

I hate to break it to ya Ohio State fans. When playing a nobody Urban will have his QB throw it all over the field to his stable of WRs. But when he's playing what he calls a "REAL" game he's gonna run the ball twice as many times as pass it, as long as he's up by a TD. "Urban Ball"

If every score is reviewed how was that not caught? Not all plays are reviewable. The closest rule I could find to this play is NCAA Rule 93. Fumble Forward Out Of Bounds. The short version. If the ball is fumbled and rolls out of bounds and the officials award the ball at that spot, the play is not reviewable. I don't think the officials knew it was a fumble, but that could have been the explanation used if a review was asked for. OR they could have used the old tried and true referee excuse of an inadvertent whistle. The referee blew his whistle as soon as he thought the player crossed the goal line, with or in this case without the ball. So at that point the play was dead. Any thoughts?

Did the ball roll out of bounds through the side of the endzone?

OKay, not all plays, I said every score. That is what gets said all the time. Every scoring play is reviewed.

Did the ball roll out of bounds through the side of the endzone? Yes the ball was released prior to the goal line and the ball followed the runner into the end zone after being dropped and then bounced out the side of the end zone.

If the officials had been doing their job and seen the obvious, wouldn't it have been treated the same as a fumble that rolls out bounds? The last team that retained possession, which was Oklahoma. Where would the ball be placed? The 20 yd. line? The 2 yd. line?.....since it rolled out of the endzone?

If the officials had seen it and called it correctly it would have been a touchback, ball to the OSU on the 20.
The fact that they blew the play dead before the ball went out of the endzone is why it still would have been OU's ball at the 1 even if they had reviewed it, because when there is an inadvertent whistle the play is dead.
