Seneca East is looking for a new head varsity basketball coach. Chris Long steps away after two seasons at the helm of the Tigers.

SE is a tough place to coach. Not a ton of community support for sports.

I've experienced it from an arm length. Anyway I won't say another word. I do look forward to see who they hire and I wish him/her the best.

SE has had 4 coaches in 10 years and only 2 winning seasons and nobody stays longer than 3. And both the coaches were gone after those winning seasons. Four winning seasons in 20 years and 3 tournament wins in that time. Something is not motivating them to stick around.

Understood, but something is making coaches not stick around.

I've always viewed Seneca East as a place where coaches go to either end their career or not get their career off to a good start. At least they'e somewhat turned their football program around, although it will be interesting to see if they can maintain it over a period of time and beat good programs outside the N10. They've had the good fortune of being in the worst of the Div. VI regions the last two years. I don't understand why they are so doormat in boys basketball, but switching coaches every few years won't help.

It's hard when basketball support ranks 3rd ... during basketball season ... to band and theater.

Chris plays the best 5 players he has regardless of who their parents are and wether they are freshmen or seniors. That didnt set well with some in the school and some in the community. Because of that he didn't think he was going to have his contract renewed. It's as simple as that.

I don't know a coach who doesn't play his 5 best players, regardless of what class they're in or who the parents are.

I read this like there was a player on the team that has a parent that works within the school and must be in a position of influence.

Of course of course here we go must always be the parents and player or community as i said earlier he was welcomed with open arms and now someone is talking to him or someone that knows him and then getting on here and trying to play the woes me card for whatever reason. if this is why he left let it go because if he played the best 5 why would anyone be upset about that? this is drama and actually irritating to read because once again it shifts blame to one side and i'm sure there is more to the story but it is over and done, move on.

When ever you see a high turnover in coaching it makes you wonder why. It has been posted, and I'm reading between the lines and making conclusions) that a parent in the school was not happy with their kids playing time. Since the reference was made from a "freshman or senior" I predict is was a freshman since the senior is gone and would no longer be a factor. This roster had a freshman on the team and it just happens to be the son of the Athletic Director. But I do not know one person on this roster so it does not matter to me. Best of luck SE in your search for the next coach.
