It won’t be the economy that busts up the stay at home order it’ll be the citizens. We’ll get a taste of people’s remaining patience level this weekend with the first beautiful weekend of the year. It’s supposed to be 70+ degrees both days. It’s easy to stay home when it’s cold and dreary let’s see how people do when it’s beautiful out. Do you really think everyone has been staying home? I have seen multiple social media posts with local high school and college kids in basements hanging out. This means the kids as well as their parents are not "staying home". I have seen on occasion gatherings of 10+ people in back yards around a fire pits during the week since some people are off work. I went to a Walmart store the Monday and there had to be at least 300 cars in the parking lot and people all over the store. It wasn't just the grocery section that was busy. On Wednesday I stopped at Lowes on way home from work and I can't remember the last time it was that crowded. Stay at home? I'm not seeing it.

The big thing is that for every person who chooses to go to Walmart or Lowe's in lieu of other activities, there are nine that aren't otherwise fraternizing at bars, restaurants, and other high contact environments. The college kids getting together isn't close to being half as bad as the day parties that would be going on at Providence College right now in a normal year.
And at least we are mitigating the usage of the break/copier room at an office. Those things are ground zero for most office seasonal sicknesses.
I think any expectations of social distancing had some "leakage" in mind, but I'm confident the vast majority are easily cutting the number of people they have close, extended contact with by a pretty notable figure.

The point was, the thought of "staying home" is not in grand practice by all in the state of Ohio. All you have to do is go outside and you will see people everywhere. Although it is true they may not be in bar and restaurants but they have found other places to be.

People can cruise in cars, walk around town, walk in a park but why do people miss Walmart so bad?
Traditional HS graduation is done. Not even sure how individual kids walk the stage in front of their family if the school is closed

A Sunday like today and people flock to Walmart, no wonder the crowds on Friday night keep shrinking

Large groups at lakes and ponds and even camping grounds this past weekend. My guess is there were a lot of grills in use Saturday and Sunday and they were filled with items for more than just those living in the house.

Dude, were you and your PIs actually out scouting all the lakes, ponds and camping rounds in North Central Ohio this past weekend, or is this just another example of your exaggerations?

The decision Dewine made yesterday with budget cuts will play huge on schools and sports this coming fall. And now they are talking partial weeks for students heading back in the fall, that's an overreach on the govt's part.

Now your telling mom and dad they need to come up with money for a sitter three days a week or not work. Any attempt by the state to implement partial days is likely to unleash the pent up anger and frustration amongst parents as well. Given how fast Dewine caved on face masks I don’t see him holding up to that for long. Also many schools are going to need levy’s. It’s going to a hard sell to community members why the school needs money with teleschool and reduced weeks.

I know some who start their kids a year early only so they can start the clock on free baby sitting a year early.

I also know a lot of parents that home schooled their kids for a year so they could hold them back a year in school.

I also know a lot of parents that home schooled their kids for a year so they could hold them back a year in school. This has become more popular today to have the kids graduate older. Kids today cannot start kindergarten until they are 5 years old but many are turning 6 as they enter school. It used to be common to enter school before your 5th birthday. Today parent are waiting longer.

Many parents realize that kids need to be ready for school since learning is faster and heavier at an earlier age. Others figure kids don’t really learn much and school should work at their convenience with all the extras. The latter are louder and making it seem like everyone is upset.

A lot of it is sports driven. There are many studies (in Europe for soccer, Canada for hockey that I’ve read) that show kids who are at the older end of an age cut off are significantly more likely to play at a higher level (national teams and processional level).

I also know a lot of parents that home schooled their kids for a year so they could hold them back a year in school. They are MUCH MUCH more intelligent to do so, compared to the ones looking for an early start of free baby sitting. I also know of school districts across the country with major football programs, that allow their coaches to decide what athletes should be "held back" a year after the 8th grade so that when Juniors and Seniors they'll be bigger, stronger and faster.

I think you are correct that a lot may be due to athletics but since the state has begun requiring kids to be 5 before starting school it has made kids older at graduation regardless. Now factor in the ones who wait an extra year and you may have more students graduating at the age of 19 instead of 17 like it used to be. We will always have a majority of them graduate at the age of 18.

Its ALL about sports, parents have their kid graduate at 19 so they can beat up 14-15 years old freshman.

The NFL will start play the beginning of September. Why not high school and College football?
If OK for football why not cross country, tennis and golf? Adults are now allowed to play golf and tennis. Plenty of social distancing in golf and tennis.
The NBA will now allow players to workout in groups of 4 with coaches instructing. Why not allow college and high school to do the same?

If they are opening up parts of the country already there is no way they will not have schools in full session come fall. The bigger question is cuts that the governor made to schools that are already hurting. Anyone know what $$ amounts are being thrown around for the local schools? Heard Columbus was in the neighborhood of $9M

And I'm talking about when they make the decision when ever it is made it has nothing to do with your son who is 4-5 grades behind them.

I've heard rumors that fall and spring sports will flip flop. Only water cooler talk so to speak. I personally haven't read anything. My biggest question is, how can you cut 300M in school funding and justify sports?

Heard that Football is going to be moved to the spring. Just curious if anyone has heard this. Snodgrass has been asked about this and his immediate response is they cannot run Spring and Fall sports at the same time since many officials do both. He also stated that many football players also play baseball, track and lacrosse so the conflict would be increased by some schools not being able to field teams. He indicated, as he normally does without saying directly, there would be no chance of moving fall sports to the spring.

The interesting thing to me will be can some sports play while others don’t or is it a all play or none play. Seems like golf, cross country and Tennis could play with social distancing, while bigger team sports might be harder. Time will tell, right now I need to see a bigger shift in how the state is dealing with kids. They need to let kids back to school full time, that’s step one and I’m not sure we are 50% there yet.
