Hearing good things relative to Willard numbers this summer. 5 or 6 good athletes with size playing this year that haven't in the past. Also hearing the possibility of fielding a Freshman team. Maybe a .500 season is attainable.

Yes I also hear his dad Ray Long is at Willard leaving Ross. Ray was DC at Ross and formerly at Clyde. Didn't have much success at Ross giving up over 37 points per game last year. But will be a big plus for Willard.

They better be some really good athletes since you lost 90% of you games last year by an average of over 34 points a game and lost your veteran QB.

They are good athletes, but .500 is still a stretch goal. 3 or 4 wins is more realistic. Hopefully we will be overall more competetive. A more balanced offense is something we can expect.

I agree here, I'd say I even go out on a limb and guarantee two wins right now. SC and Vermilion. Plymouth being another possible win. Not sure what southeast has back but maybe they are a winnable game??? I'd imagine they have to be improved somewhere right? Not being in the pond division is a killer for them in Football

But will be a big plus for Willard. Defense requires toughness, effort, and discipline. Something that's been lacking at Ross for a New York minute.

Their 5 losses came against teams with a combined 48 wins, 4 of the 5 were were playoff teams. They beat Willard 46-14. Plymouth was 7-3 last year and beat Willard 46-12. Maybe all of South Central and Plymouth's returning letter winners moved to Willard.

All around sounds like Willard is getting more kids out to play, always a good sign for the coach and program. What is the QB situation this year? That is where winning games usually starts, putting up some numbers.

Doesn't have the strongest arm around but it's adequate and he's really really smart with the ball. QB doesn't matter much if our O-line plays like they did last year. This has to be much improved or we will see a repeat of last year. I think overall our skilled positions will be better than last year, but O-line is the key on the offensive side of the ball.

I'm surprised you have a good indicator of the total numbers at this point since you can only be holding workout groups of 9 and nothing can be contact or sharing of equipment. Of course that is if the rules are being followed.

I'd bet they beat SC, Vermillion, and Plymouth. 3-7

Weight training and conditioning, groups of 9 at six different stations, core station, agility station, endurance/running, etc. More kids at these workouts than we've seen the last couple years. Nice attempt at stirring the pot again though.

Nice attempt at stirring the pot again though. Nice jab but no stirring intended. Most years the summer numbers can be down from the final roster numbers. With this year it is safe to assume the numbers could be a little lower right now. I'm glad the numbers are up. Maybe we can remove the tiny school mentality that has fallen on Willard athletics in recent seasons. I'd love to see a 7-3 season from the Flashes.

Good team player and should do fine as long as he has some protection, like you said. Their running game should be decent with the Rothaar and Lopez kids running the ball. They had some decent young receivers last year, all coming back this year?

I also heard that a solid running back from Plymouth may have moved backed to Willard. Yes, all Wideouts are returning. Line play will definitely be the key.

Did anyone catch the article in the Willard paper about the situation with funding? There were people badmouthing the football and basketball programs for the sake of the arts. I like the arts and all but not sure what the angle was bashing these programs to get her point across. The football program has made some good progress since the new coach came in, should be a solid year to build on. Lot of seniors playing this year, seems like.

I am not sure they will have the numbers for a Freshman team. Several are doing the summer workouts but have not commited to playing. My son played both years in middle school but it was a bad experience for him. I would not consider him as a lock to go out. Which is hard for a dad that loves high school football.
