It’s Bill Speller Do your research on how he did at Haviland Wayne Trace where he spent the vast majority of his time as a head coach-14 years—2013 State Runner up. They really liked him. He brings a wealth of head coaching experience and knowledge to our program. I’m really happy to get him and his family in Willard. I don't think Wayne Trace like him that much because the job at Wayne Trace is open and Speller wanted it back, WT said no return. A lot of Elida was true. And Willard won't hire a Willard grad named Todd Fox. Doesn't mean they are a problem. Fox has had no problem at Calvert or Norwalk, but oh no, he's not good enough for Willard.

If I remember right Fox issues was from wrestling 15-16 years ago where he had a few bad news kids that may have done some hazing issue that Fox couldn't shake. Fox was a great good wrestling coach but was young and had a few discipline problems. I'm glad thing worked out for him and a second chance.

I just want a coach to do this- Be a good teacher in the classroom # 1 Make our players the best they can be. And help them by being a good example and leader.

I wish it were that simple because we know #1 is winning. Whether we admit it or not, that is how you will be judged as a success or failure. Every kid in your class could be a straight A student and it would mean nothing to some. I like your list, but unfortunately we both know it is flawed (unfortunately!)

I spoke with the ad at WT. After talking to him I was sold on Coach Speller to Willard . Enough said . Ironically, he applied for the current open Wayne Trace job but didn’t get it.

Great hire for Willard. To get a coach with that pedigree after going 0-11 is impressive. Lots of work to do and between him and joe b the boys teams will thrive.

Great hire? Pedigree? With that should be able to go anywhere. Not to 0-11 program that hasn't won in years. That is honestly beyond repair unless you have 6 to 8 years to invest into getting your youth numbers up. To stay out through Jr. High years. Guaranteed the school nor the parents will stand behind him or anyone for that long. So honestly why come here. Hopefully he's the savior. But without major changes throughout the program and administration he is screwed.

To my understanding he has a young kid. Hopefully they see this through. You brought up a big problem in Willard tho. Parents don’t stand behind coaches. They throw them under the bus first chance they get. School board needs to give him time and I believe they will. Just my opinion is all.

one of the first things Coach Speller did last Friday after meeting the HS boys,,,was to go to St Francis and meet their boys and also Celeryville who has around 130-150 kids now. Smart move I think.

IF and when he gets Willard to a .500 team, he could be applying for a new job with that on his resume. Which should be considered fine by the Willard faithful, since it would make it much easier for the next Willard coach.

This stream reminds me of the scene in Hoosiers when the so called "know it all's" from town wanted to meet with Norman Dale and tell him how he should run the team and the program. He listened and then did things his way because that is why he was hired. Coaching a team that went 0-11 would scare most any coach away, not to mention the turnover rate in coaching over the last few years in Willard and their last 10 years of success. This coach needs the freedom to make the changes he wants to make, do the things he can to improve the program and not have to worry about losing his job if he doesn't rub elbows with the right people in this town. He has a history of success and that does matter. He also has a past, and the old saying goes, "your past can define you, destroy you or strengthen you." I'm pulling for this guy because the kids in this community need it.

As a parent I want to see discipline work ethic and growth in my son. Having played for tough coaches in the 80's I hope he gets to experience some of what I did. With the division we are in wins will be tough so we have to look at other benefits.

I'm really interested to see what the new coach can do this year. I'm not expecting miracles, but much improvement from last year should be an easy accomplishment. The skill positions should be a real strength. A 6'4" athletic QB with a nice arm, the SBC's leader in rushing yards from 2020, the SBC's leading WR in yardage and catches with 4.6 speed returns, alot of underclassmen saw major field time last year, this should be a great foundation to put points on the scoreboard. The defense is a big concern, as well as the offensive line. I'm optimistic, but realistic at the same time. Maybe 2 or 3 wins but just being competitive will be a step in the right direction.

I saw at least 4 good sized kids that have been hitting the weight room in track this season. Hamons, Parsons, Carlos and Hamilton. There were a couple others but I didn’t get names and I’m not sure if they actually play football. Good to see them putting in work tho.

Win the games we can win. Win more than our share of 50/50 games. Steal a game we shouldn't have won. Get some excitement back into Friday nights. Do that and we can turn the program around. I think we have some players who can do just that and a coach who can get us there because he knows how.
