Because of Justin Fields and his unnatural and generational skillset, and the fact that he was about to get a 2nd year in Ryan Day's system, I think it is quite possible that this might be the best team Day ever fields in his career at OSU.
And that bums me out a lot because I don't think there is any way we see College Football this fall.

No one thought we'd see a QB better than Haskins at Ohio State for some time or ever. Who thought Joe Burrow was gonna be as good as he turned out? Both Burrow and Fields happened right after Haskins. Would Fields have been as good at Penn State or Georgia? There will be many very good high school QBs who'll want to play for Day. What college coach in the county is going to recruit and develop QBs better than Ryan Day?? The 2021 class, Day's first, is better than any other in Ohio State history and on track to be the highest rated of any school since they began rating classes. Ryan Day is in his infancy as far as head coaches go, and I see no reason he won't be around for another 20 years.
I think there is "way" we'll see college football on TV, but not so much in the stands. I don't see the logic of letting college students do what they do in bars and in the sack after bars close and not allowing college football.
I haven't seen this mentioned, but the biggest issue in playing college football this year could be getting enough quality officials. Many are of the age that they are much more at risk than late teen or early 20 players.

I think it is an inevidible, face masks will be mandated in all public venues in Ohio and probably most states. Shutting down small businesses again, is not a likely option. That being said, the spector of mask wearing game officals, with perhaps nitrile gloves is almost comical, but likely. Cameras scanning the sidelines, with teams and their coaches wearing these garments and panning around the stadium of masked fans, is a scene from a bad movie. As a player is sent in for the next play, where does he put his mask, or do they issue him a new one, when comes off the field. This years teams will be presented with a whole host of logistical problems to contend with, having nothing to do with the game of football.
Keep this in mind. Even the best programs in college football, can have their future recruiting success, take a nose dive, if they have an internal outbreak of the virus. Potential recruits will view them as not a potentially healthy or safe place to be, because they haven't implemented the necessary measures to keep their players healthy. Unfair perhaps, but simple human nature.
As good as this years Buckeyes might be, think Ryan Day has perhaps even greater teams in the coming years, looking at the 2020 and 21 recruiting classes. Pretty exciting times to be a Buckeye!

An addendum
Of the teams favored to make the playoffs the one that has the best chance, could very well be the one with players that understand the importance of doing everything possible not to contract the virus and pass it on to teammates and coaches. Putting their TEAM at risk of losing a game or games due to many important players having to be quarantined for 2 weeks and thus missing 2 weeks of practices and multiple games.

Very good and important point. Some teams (like Ohio State) are heavy favorites to win their conference and be playoff contenders. However, there are so many unknowns and variables, this could be quite different than anyone could possibly imagine.

Pepper Johnson has been hired by IMG Academy as the defensive coordinator. This may prove to be really good news for Buckeye football. This has potential to enhance recruiting efforts and keep the pipeline flowing.

Clemson has a purported, 25 cases of Covid 19 among it's players. This can be perceived a number of ways, both positive and negative for their program.
Negative - players not available for preseason workouts, further curtailment of team meetings and gatherings, plus an applied stigma from potential recruits and current commits.
Positive - a significant portion of the team now have a supposed, temporary immunity, with contracting and recovery. So, does this actually work in their favor and get them ahead of other teams that will realize outbreaks closer to or during the season?

I'm with Torch ---don't see them playing this year. Ivy league just cancelled, and I'd guess the rest will follow suite eventually. The culture of fear has been created and it's full speed ahead. They will blame Trump and his camp for "not handling it right". But I also expect if somehow Biden wins the election ---that magically the fear will go away with Covid, and that somehow Biden fixed it all. Hate to be like this, but the media has brainwashed a big portion of the country.

The sad part is numbers are being inflated in some states by counting every test taken as a new case. One person might get tested 3 times, and if all 3 tests come back positive, that’s 3 new cases. I don’t trust all the numbers being thrown out there.

Every night for the past 2 weeks NBC Evening News has had the SAME lead story. "Terrible increase in cases of Covid-19 in Florida, Texas and Arizona." Similar to what the Soviet Union did to indoctrinate.

I don’t trust all the numbers being thrown out there. What is also scary is if you tested positive but die in a car crash you are being recorded as a C-19 death. The death count is not C-19 CAUSED deaths it is people who have died with C-19.

It certainly looks like the University Presidents are on the brink of scrapping 2020 fall football. Spring football creates more problems than it solves. At this point, I think the spring football idea is 50/50. All it does is jeapardize coming out of this virus impact with a normal fall 2021 season. To have two seasons occurr within two months of one another, is two much to ask of our student athletes.
Ohio State is going to feel the impact of these unfolding events, much more than most schools, given the collection of talent they will lose, such as Fields, Wade and Davis and others.
I see a special, one time waver for this senior class, with the option to play in 2021. This impacts everyone else, especially the incoming recruiting class. Don't be surprised to see 115-120 man rosters, suited up next fall.

"A special one time waver[sic]" is meaningless for underclassmen good enough to go pro early and for Seniors who want to start their NFL careers. They are gone, if football isn't played this fall. ALSO, the precedent to give another year of eligibility for college athletes was already established this past Spring....remember? The NCAA can't treat football players differently, just because there are 5 times or more of them than in any other sport. Even though it could cause some sports departments to go bankrupt, especially with the lost revenue.
THE KEY...The players want to play. Their parents want them to play. AND it is very easy to prove that players are safer with millions of $s being spent to protect them on campus than sending them home, many to inner cities, where there is little or no help or control to stop them from being infected by the Virus.
THE PROBLEM...for the most part University Presidents are leftist wingnuts.

I'm wavering a bit, from my original recollection of the spring waiver....lol Once the academians take control of making athletics decisions, the political ideology takes precedent, as you pointed out. This is going to be an unecessarily, dark chapter in college athletics, where nobody is going to be happy. My grandson is pumped about entering his Jr. year at BGSU, but all we know at this point is question marks.

No matter what the Big Ten was ultimately, planning for this fall, next spring and next fall, it was pretty stupid to show our hand and be the first Power Five conference to stick our head out and show our hand.
Now that the B1G has shown it's hand, the possibility exists for any of the remaining Power Five conferences to opt for an abbreviated 2020 season as was originally planned.
They have increased their chances of putting teams in the post season playoff, possibly by up to 100%.
Let's say the other Power Five follow suit with the B1G and the SEC decides to play. They have virtually guaranteed themselves of another college playoff champion, although it may be accompanied with an askerisk. Big time college football is all about money and with them owning the stage, it would be a brilliant move.

Ryan Day says, "This is not over". Franklin, Harbaugh and Frost reiterate. Where's Chryst and Fleck? If they play on their own, what are the Big Ten President leftists going to do, fire all the coaches and kick the scholar athlete's out of school? Big Ten players want to know how these people can stop them from playing when NONE of them have seen how safe they are.
The players WANT to be heard...this could lead to a college football players union, that the PAC10 players are striving for.

Ya gotta be impressed with Ryan Day. Hes taking the gloves off and he's swinging haymakers! Every single B1G coach needs to make their thoughts known, loud and often!

Sounds like....The leakers, the liars, the fake news, as in the radical left democrats and their cohorts in the media. Ryan Days says he hasn't been asked. Gene Smith says he would recommend playing. The Ohio State President says she would NOT vote in favor of canceling. NO VOTE HAS BEEN TAKEN, as of 11:30PM Monday night.

We are witnessing the fake news at play, in it's full glory. When there are no names involved and multiple reference to 'sources' or 'multiple sources', be very suspicious, no matter the subject at hand. The Detroit Free Press exclusive is a prime example of disinformation, passed off as 'news'. "Multiple sources said early Monday morning that presidents voted 12-2 to not play this fall, though the Big Ten said Monday afternoon no official vote had taken place." (Contradicting themselves, all in one sentence.) Interviewing a former NASCAR CEO on Big Ten football? (Someone who spent a lifetime dedicated to car racing, now that's a knowledgable source for college football)......lol
Reactionary activity opposing cancellation, is coming from a number of fronts and I think it is far more organized than most people might think. It's coming from school administratiors, athletic directors, coaches, players, recruits, fans and I would suspect legal counsel. Thousands of people from every aspect, share the same resolve and voice.
The candle's still burning and it's safe to say, this thing's not over, quite yet.

I blame the libtards Yes, I'm the bad boy. I blame the people that decided to wait until March to accept this virus was a problem Do you mean all the Dems like Biden who called Trump a racist for the travel ban on China at the end of January? Perhaps the ones like Pelosi and DeBlasio that said for people to go party in Chinatown, or go to downtown NY for a night out? Or maybe the doctors like Fauci and the head of the CDC that said masks were not necessary and in some cases did more harm than good?
