If there is a season, who is the favorite? I think it’s a toss up this year. I was happy to hear that Sandusky gave out 43 helmets to freshman, that is the most I have ever seen.

Hearing a lot of good things out of Perkins.
Strong young coaching staff anchored by Crabtree, lot of athletes who were untapped until the new regime showed up.
I don't know if you can believe the hype yet.
Heard they got some Sandusky transfers too.
Also had someone tell me Clyde could make a repeat run with the Junior class they have. They have been hyped by some in the community lately.
Hard to go against Tiffin, they have won two straight.

Not sure it will matter due to the season likely not happening but they will be the bottom rung again in the Lake with that crew running the show. Coaching football is a very low priority for the new regime.

If the last two years taught me anything, it's don't win the Lake if you want a deep playoff run.

To expand my prior post...
SBC Lake Champions
2017 Sandusky 2018 Clyde, TC 2019 Norwalk, TC
One Playoff Victory in that bunch, and that was last year's Norwalk dub over Glenville.
Meanwhile, 3 playoff wins in 2017 from Bellevue (2) and Clyde.
In 2018, 5 playoff wins from Norwalk(3) and Sandusky (2).
Finally, 2019, 7 playoff wins from Clyde(5) and Sandusky (2).
15-1 in favor of non-Lake winners.

As for this year, TC has to be a favorite, with some pieces back and Norwalk gets a few pieces back as well. I would say they gotta be the favorites, no?

Such a solid conference. I'd imagine 4 or 5 teams make the playoffs. The extra 5 weeks of practice for Clyde could help them improve on their league record. I can't really make a pick here...

I said in a different thread a while back coaching experience will play a huge role this year. Coaches that kept the offseason as similar to previous years will have a leg up.

As for the Lake, if football is played, I think it will be a complete toss up. Sandusky has to replace some, but I felt Franklin improved at QB during the playoffs especially. It helps to have a veteran QB back, which also will help, Bellevue, Norwalk, one might think Perkins as they bring their QB back. Tiffin to me is a wild card. QB situation will be big for them. Clyde is Clyde, they will be in the mix. I hope we have a season, because it should be another entertaining year in the Lake!

After your post, I asked around, your assessment is spot on with a lot of the things I have heard.

If the season is cut short or doesn’t happen that would buy them some extra time to get their priorities straight. Twenty something year old boys leading anything is problematic, especially with minimal experience. They aren’t doing themselves any favors with the things they are doing this summer. You don’t know what you don’t know though, right?

I’m really praying that there’s a season... I'm sure we all are. The Lake has a lot of potential, as I see 5 of the 6 teams being on roughly the same playing field. It would make for an entertaining five weeks to say the least. I think Clyde and Sandusky could rise to the top just based on recent success and who they have returning, but really anything could happen this year.

Clyde will be the team to beat .. These kids are all charged up and will be ready .. But this year kids will be better than last season in the Lake division.. A repeat at state title ? Anything is possible and the Flyers have proven that!!

Anything is possible and the Flyers have proven that!! I couldn't agree more. St. Paul should always get the benefit of the doubt. In seriousness, there's so much parity, especially for this year, anything can happen. Case in point, Media has Norwalk tied for first. Coaches has Truckers tied for last. Usually (sorry Josh), I take more stock in Coaches Poll. As far as I'm concerned, Norwalk has something to prove.

Perkins for years and specifically football have too many voices and opinions going on with what and how the program should run. My prime example.... the firing of Rock Farlow, how do you fire a guy who went to the playoffs in 2003, then fire him in 2004, after a bad year? Hopefully Santoro has the opportunity to run the program his way without outside heat and can creat consistent success.

Forget about 2003 and 04; after leading Pirates to 99 State Title at a school not really rich in Football Tradition, Farlow should have had free drinks at any Perkins pub for life.

That may have contributed to the top three candidates all turning the job down as they learned more about the position/program. Playing the Lake probably didn't help either. It sure doesn't appear like this crew is the right fit so far.

Maple city,
1998- 7-4 (I believe) 1999- 15-0 2000- 11-1 2001- 5-5 2002- 3-7 2003- 7-4 2004- 2-8
40-29 and he got canned. I still believe it had nothing to do with his record but the kids he wasn’t playing.
I hope Perkins can get it together, they seem to have a few good years and faulted somewhere. Perkins has always had some of the best athletes, but not able to always put it together.
