It was great to see major college football back on the field!
Oklahoma quickly made themselves irrelavent with a home loss to a Covid-19 depleted K-State team, who are fresh off a loss to Arkansas State the previous week.
LSU moved themselves out of the playoff focus, getting outplayed and outcoached in their loss to Mississpip State. How 'bout that LSU secondary getting buzzed for 623 yards? K.J. Costello placed himself squarely in the Heisman picture with a phenominal 36-60-2 623 yds and 5 TD's. Including a 75 yard bomb.
Texas had to rally back in O.T. to best Texas Tech. The glaring takeaway from this game is the basketball scoring. Any defense giving up 56 points quckly removes them from serious playoff consideration, down the road.
Miami certainly looked impressive against a horrible FSU team. We'll quickly see if they are legit next week @clemson.
Keep an eye on Luke Fickell's Cinncinati Bearcats as the season progresses. Their defense is for real.

Just like every year pretty much(with the exception of LSU last year) it’ll come down to Alabama, Ohio State, or Clemson.
Every single year Oklahoma gets hyped up, get ranked in the top 10 or 5 and turn out to be pretenders. Wash, rinse, repeat.

Like you said, it's a pretty reliable bet that Bama, OSU and Clemson will be there, but the interesting question is shaping up, even at this very early point in the season, who will be battling it out for the final slot? Don't think it will be this year, quite yet, but Tennessee is a program that will be heard from in the coming years. They are definately a program on the rise, as is Miami. To a lesser extent, Florida is creeping back into the equation. As I mentioned before, I'm rather intrigued with the develpment of the Bearcats, under Fickell.

The "plan" to help Ohio State make the playoffs, by not playing Wisconsin or Minnesota in the regular season, could also help one of the two also make the playoffs. By staying undefeated until the conference title game. With LSU and Oklahoma "eliminated"...why not 2 Big Ten Teams in the final four?

eSECpn Would never allow 2 B1G Ten Teams in the playoff, Only the SEC is allowed to do that.

I didn't realize ESPN was selecting the field or had input.

11 AP voters didn't have the Buckeyes on their ballots, deciding to rank only the teams that have played. Had not LSU and Oklahoma lost, the Buckeyes would be sitting 8th....probably.
Not sure when the first playoff committee rankings come out, but by the time the B1G gets on the field, many teams will have 5 games under their belt.
Notre Dame will benefit from the mediocre ACC, much like Clemson, till they host Clemson, late in the season.

The AP poll is meaningless, even more so this year. IF anything can be more than "meaningless".

The point that I think is valid, is the fact that the playoff selection committee doesn't live in a vacum. Although they have their own independent methods to evaluate and rate legitimate playoff candidates, they also research the surrounding media environment that entails all the media polls, such as AP, Coaches, USA Today, ESPN etc. and to some extent have a secondary influence in their decision making assessments. To what degree that might be, is debatable, but no one can deny, it is a factor. It's only human nature. That's why I still like the idea of incorporating computerized ratings, with specific, built in criteria's, that are effective in eliminating personal biases.

THE point. I seriously doubt anyone on the committee is looking at THIS week's AP to determine anything. Possibly the weaker on the committee MIGHT check the last couple AP polls to justify what their thoughts are. NOTHING more.

the Buckeyes went from #2 to unranked, the biggest one-week drop in poll history
then they went from unranked to #6, the biggest one-week rise in poll history
Good times!

Think about this. In Week 7 of the 2020 AP Poll Ohio State will have zero wins, but will be ranked in the Top 10 of that Poll.
If you would have told someone that after Ohio State's loss to Clemson they would have had you committed.

Turnovers are always the great equalizer
So, so true, but the biggest turnover and score of the season, was wrongly taken from us and that was the game winner for the Buckeyes.

I watched the game all over again and it really does seem like a bad dream. Granted they never should have allowed Clemson to get back into the game, but the officiating was hot soup.

This is why no one takes the Big 12 seriously. Until they actually play defense they’ll always be on the outside of the playoff picture. I’m also very glad Alex Grinch is no longer at Ohio State.

Think about this. After Saturday's game Texas or Oklahoma is guaranteed to have 3 losses. I think it will be a typical Lonhorn/Sooner clash. Fun football..... Although Oklahoma should prevail, hoping Texas pulls it off, for one main reason.....recruiting. We are vying for several players in the '21 and '22 class. Emeka Egbuka and J.T. Tuimoloau in the '21 class for sure. 3 losses would certainly dim any chance they once had. Texas is still fighting for relevancy.

the problem isn't the coach, the problem is UM is what it is, a school that has tough admissions and half a National Title over the last what...75 years? they were never on OSU's level, even when they were jack-booting Coop all over the place
Bo Schembechler never won a National Title. UM has (1) 12-win season in it's history, we have a 12-win season i think every year since 2012 except one. The problem is UM is not Alabama, or Clemson, or OSU, and it has never been OSU. NEV-UH. The problem is UM needs to realize a 10-3 11-3 record for them is a GOOD YEAR.
