With crestlines W tonight Willard is the only winless team in NCO The tag line for Discount Drug Mart is ‘saves you the runaround’ Well Drug Mart could have saved a lot of runaround here as well if we just listened to him years ago.

If Willard does play Plymouth next week and loses, the Flashes would almost certainly be the only team in the state to go 0-11. There are some other 0-10 and 0-9 schools out there who would mathematically have a chance as well should they randomly schedule another game or two, but no such games are currently scheduled per Joe Eitel.
It's also quite possible that 0-11 has never happened in Ohio high school football history, and certainly not in the playoff era. If any 0-11's exist, they would probably be back in the late 1800's or early 1900's before scheduling norms became more uniform.

Are they allowed to play another? I thought a school was capped at 10 games unless they were still in “the playoffs.”

honest question... would Willard football be better suited to be independent and just play in the Bay for other sports?
honestly... 8 man football gives them a better chance I would surmise.
I mean, the program is in such a tough spot to get it back on any kind of track they almost have to play down or they need to find a way to persuade a transformational coach to come in and overhaul the entire culture of the team and district.

I wasn’t kidding when I mentioned earlier in the year eight man football was ahead for the flashes. The decisions made years ago I thought would turn out bad, but even I didn’t think it would come anywhere close to the level it’s at right now. It’s stunning.

But I really don't think playing football in the Bay gives them a chance to build it back up

There needs to be a change or two in the leadership at Willard. Without that none of this matters. I doubt that’s going to happen, I think we have what we are going to have and therefore eight man football is on deck. However for the sake of argument let’s say that happens and we get some fresh leadership in Willard, O After that, and no I am not suggesting fox that ship has sailed... in fact right now if everybody is honest the only person that does not want Todd Fox to be coach of the flashes is Todd Fox. Anyway after that we must realize that very few top level coaches are even going to consider Willard Ohio right now. We need a great mind and former flashes football player to come in here that would give us a “hometown discount“ so to speak just like we got lucky with a very good Joe Bedingfield coaching the basketball team. If it wasn’t for the job being in Willard Ohio he would not be here. Someone that would not only have their head motivated to rebuild this program but their heart because they knew what this program used to be. I don’t know who that would be, pick a random player from the early 2000s. I could be hoping against hope but that seems to be the only path back to respectability.

Are there rules about how coaches are compensated? Could the school district pay their salary at the typical rate and a benefactor supplement it? There has to be someone locally who wants to see the program turn around if it’s legal.

In the County where I live, there is a prominent Catholic school that has an organization of “no name” supporters. It is rumored that the organization pays the football coach. However, this is a private school. I would imagine in the public system the teachers union would have something to say about it.

Contrary to public belief and knowledge, a public school like school like Willard doesn't have carte blache to just offer or create a position for someone. It is not that simple.

Dean of Discipline Director of Credit Recovery District Spokesperson In School Suspension Monitor Just to name a few positions created for head coaches in greater Toledo area. I also could see a local businessman providing a nice paying day position for a coach. The legal difficulty is firing him from the day job when his coaching tenure comes to an end

What leadership, in your opinion, needs changed? There is the superintendent, board members, the AD or the coaches? No one is coming here to coach that was a player back in the 2000s so we either get serious about football or we go to 8 man. Not sold on Beddingfield just yet. Lets see what he does without Devon, Terry and Cooper. If he wins 15 games this year without Devon (recruited in) and Cooper (recruited back) then I’ll be sold. Looks like a few tough years ahead for the flashes after this year in hoops, based on what they have coming back after this year.

I know I’m getting old but who in their wildest dreams 20 years ago could imagine this outcome. Willard was in the NOL and competing while BC was a tiny poor program in the tiny NCC. Not much has changed for BC since not really a slight but they are what they are. Willard on the other hand has plummeted to a level that I don’t believe anyone saw coming even 5-10 years ago how, why I’m not close enough to it to answer but wow

All I know is they were touting one of the longest losing streaks in the state prior to beating LOWLY Bucyrus and all while playing a D7 schedule.

Buckeye Central was state runners-up in 1995 and 2011, but were 0-10 in each of the last three seasons before going 3-7 this season. They even won a road playoff game this season.
