Full ride doesn’t mean it’s a full ride athletic scholarship. Could be academic or more likely, a combo (if in fact a full ride).

Even though I do agree with you when someone posts on an athletic page that a basketball player received a full ride scholarship it can be assumed it is from athletics. If not the case I know of many high school athletes who have received "full rides" to D1 schools in the MAC.

Kid/parent communicate "full ride" and it takes off from there. Not sure this is the case but it happens.

In a sports discussion about kids going on to play college, when the statement is made "he received a full ride" knowing it not to be 100% true from his sport, it is intentionally deceiving. Depends on who says it. Until my oldest was getting recruited and looking into football at the college level I had no idea how the system worked. I didn’t know that D1 football and basketball HAD to be full ride and that D2 could divide their scholarships however they wanted. I knew D3 had no athletic scholarships, but I didn’t know NCAA and NAIA handled things differently. Ivy League schools are D1, but are non-scholarship for athletics. It’s complicated. So if someone says that a player got a “full ride” unless they know the system and are completely aware of the specific situation they may or may not have any idea if it’s all athletic or a split. I promise you this family isn’t trying to deceive anyone. Someone who had a discussion with them might have misspoke by being unaware of the details. Or he might break your streak of never hearing about an NAIA kid who gets a full ride.

I didn't hear anything from either family. I saw it on twitter from their basketball program and was asking if anyone knew of any details. A possible scenario was given to me and I responded to that scenario.

Considering that they replaced Wynford, Cardington, Buckeye Valley and Fredericktown with Delaware Hayes, Olentangy, Linden McKinley and Worthington Christian and they you feel they will win more games than last year placing 3rd in the MOAC you must feel they have improved a lot. The talk in fall was they they had a shot to compete for the MOAC title. Dropping BV means they dropped the best team out side of Shelby that was on their schedule from last year. Those Columbus games could get canceled since Franklin country is the only Purple one in the state. I see many games with Columbus schools have been canceled already. RV added a transfer starter from Buckeye Valley. R Valley should be stronger this year and B Valley should be weaker taking one of there best players

The quarantined player should be able to play in the Clear Fork game tomorrow but the 2 injured players are expected to miss. Not sure if the player injured yesterday will play.

It seems there have been a number of injuries so far. Do you think it may be because of the lack of practice and training time that has been available to the teams? Are the players in the best shape possible?

Ontario played good enough defense holding RV's high powered offense to 56. Ontario's offense is still a work in progress. Kurtz didn't make a basket in this game after only making one against Norwalk. He averaged 11ppg last year and needs to average 15 this year for the team to be successful. Shaver got 21, but without Colburn this year he's betting doubled a lot and played physically by bigger and athletic kids. When a team has one.

I didn't notice a player of significance that wasn't on RV's the team last year. What's the kids name? Not seeing a reason BV shouldn't be stronger this year, with all they have coming back. I can think of several BV players that would have made a huge impact at RV or just about anywhere.

Their play the last 2 games has been pretty sloppy. They were up 6 late and had consecutive turnovers. That shouldn’t happen.

A few baskets by Kurtz earlier would have meant the game would not have been close at the end. Yep, a lot of bad turnovers. Most of those by Shaver are inexcusable, being a 4 year starter at PG. I thought THE biggest basket was the 3 pointer late in the game from the corner by Zach McCristall. One of those OH NO.....great shots!
He's quite a story, IMO. Didn't make the 15 player roster as a 7th grader. Made the 15 player 8th grade team but rarely got to play. Made the 9th grade team but didn't play much. As a Soph made the JV team, but didn't get many minutes. His Junior year was on the JV team again and was one of 6 guards in the rotation on a 20-2 team. This year a varsity starter. A rarity among kids these days. Never gave up, he wanted something and worked hard to get there.

The new player for RV I believe is Beard, a scrappy, hard nosed player who was on BV last year. The rumor I heard was that Beard got into a fight with the star player from BV (the one who nearly broke his neck last year) and there was no way he could come back given the messed up team chemistry.
Please know that this is all third hand and could be completely false. This is just what I heard in passing, so please don’t treat it as the truth unless someone else can confirm it.

SO, did the family move to the RV District or did he Open Enroll and thus will only be eligible for the first 11 games?
