Sentinel Sports (@senttribsports) just reported:
"The Elmwood Local Schools Board of Education has approved the district's departure from the Northern Buckeye Conference. Elmwood will join the Blanchard Valley Conference effective with the 2023-2024 school year or sooner. The vote was unanimous."

Still would be a sorry move for Oak Harbor if they went.

Definitely a bad long-term move for OH, as we've discussed here many times. That the NBC is about to detonate makes it an even worse move now.
If they haven't done so already, SBC would be real smart to get those invitations sent to Woodmore and Genoa to help bring in travel partners for OH asap. They are still close enough to Toledo metro to be able to find close out-of-conference games, so could be a good long-term fit. Would also help stabilize the conference going forward.

I hear that the next NBC invite goes to Port Clinton if Woodmore leaves.

I hear that the next NBC invite goes to Port Clinton if Woodmore leaves. PC has zero interest regardless of what Oak Harbor does. Zero.

OH to Northern Buckeye huge mistake only made worse if PC does not follow. The better option is the Bay division working to round out a 8 school division by poaching from the short list of Genoa, Eastwood, Lake and Rossford. None are a perfect match geographically or by the sports offered. None play tennis, soccer and swim which matches SBC

Genoa won't go to the SBC and be put in the Bay.
No way their fans will accept going to Vermilion (and to a lesser extent) Huron on a school night for HS kids, much less for the JH games.
And if Genoa won't go, I have a hard time seeing any of those other three schools going, when their drives would be longer...
Everyone always thinks only about FB and BB, but forgot all the other sports where the Board has to deal with complaints as well.

I don’t see why the SBC doesn’t come back as an 8 team league.
Oak Harbor Port Clinton Clyde Bellevue Huron Edison Perkins Vermilion
Looks like a stable league to me and travel would be good for all teams.

I get that would be a huge problem for Sandusky, Norwalk and TC. At some point some schools are going to have to be proactive and have stability. The uncertainty of these divisions doesn’t have a future and when a school gets to small for a division they want out. All eight of the teams I mentioned for an SBC league have had similar enrollment numbers for a while and shouldn’t be a problem for years to come.

Would be interesting. It seems like if it got to this point it would be every man for himself.

Edison and Vermilion would not want any part of that if they had to play football in it. Every year the only chance for a win in football would be when they played each other.

Edison has beaten most of them recently with the exception of Clyde and Bellevue. Overall that would be a solid and stable league for all sports and not just football.

Bellevue Clyde Norwalk Sandusky TC Perkins Fremont Ross Not sure who the 8th team would be.

Just curious about Willard and their future. Has Willard ever thought of trying to get in any leagues more to the south (MOAC) or other leagues?

I just think it’s most beneficial and proactive if the 8 schools I mentioned get together for an 8 team league and let Willard, Norwalk, Sandusky and TC find new homes.

It appears as though the Northwood, Swanton, Evergreen, Ottawa Hills, Edon, Montpelier and Delta league is about to happen. The wheels are in motion now.

If I were some of the ADs around the area I’d be making phone calls and getting an 8 team league together before some schools get left in the cold.

Interesting that Northwood to Edon is 1 hr 20 minutes according to Google. It seems leagues are less geographically appealing compared to the days I recall of the 70's, 80's and 90's.

It’s working for the Lake. Definitely the calmest waters in that division. A lot more depth too. 😜
