Smith announced his retirement from coaching today. He spent 32 seasons (411-327) coaching at his alma mater, including four Firelands Conference titles, 17 sectional & three district titles, and the program's lone state appearance (1997).

Impressive career. When you start comparing the numbers he is very similar to another recently retired coach with a very long timeline.

Is Bob Haas available to replace Mike Smith for a 2nd time? See if anyone remembers that situation. This is what I remember - it may not be totally accurate but here goes: 1. They ask Mike to take either the assistant head coaching job or be the JV Coach (don't remember which one) so that they could hire Bob Haas as Head Coach. Mike accepted. 2. Bob decided not to take the job, never did hear why. 3. Asked Mike to return as the Head Coach and he accepted. |

I've heard of three:
1. Steve Minor - the current JV Coach.
2. Nate Heckleman - I believe he is the current Bellevue JV Coach.
3. Aaron Fries - He is current SP Baseball Coach, so I doubt he would be allowed to do both jobs.

And a candidate from Mansfield St Pete whose name I dont know
