Summer League highlights have me excited for the season to see where this young group can go.

Ohio State added a nice commitment today in Devin Royal from Pickerington. Really blew up on the recruiting trail the last year or so. He’s the top ranked player in Ohio for his class and around 75 nationally.
The Bucks could get another good one on Sunday, a lot of signs point to Scotty Middleton committing as well. He’s around 35th nationally.

Royal was very impressive at the State tourney in March, kid worked hard at both ends of the floor.

Middleton did commit to Ohio State tonight. The ‘23 class is looking very good, currently 3rd in the country. Combine that with the ‘22 class and Holtmann has a very good group. Should be some good basketball the next few years.

Seth Towns announced today that he will not be part of the team this year and essentially retiring from basketball. He had some more setbacks and didn’t feel his body could take another season.

I'm probably not the only one that wondered if Towns would be able to help the Buckeyes even if he was healthy. He has not been productive on the court in over 4 years and even then he was not playing the caliber of talent he would have seen this year. Wish him the best and hope he gets himself healthy.

The only things I’ve seen is speculation that he felt he was getting overlooked since the staff is continuing to recruit, especially with Taison Chatham who some think he could be the next commit. But i haven’t seen anything for sure.

But i haven’t seen anything for sure. That indicates to me that he is soft. Recruiting can be brutal and you always have to know you can be replaced.

Adam Jardy had a story in the Dispatch this afternoon that said the rumors basically now are that GW wasn’t comfortable with what his role was going to be once he got here. So take that for what it’s worth. Things are also heating up with Taison Chatman who is ranked around 30 in the country so this could be a big addition.

What about Bronny James does that interest you? I think there is a real shot he ends up a Buckeye.

My gut feeling is Bronny ends up at a California school(UCLA/USC maybe), or Oregon(Nike). I don't know much about him really but reading a few things online he's not one of those really highly regarded recruits and at this point would be more of just a solid contributor in college. Who knows but that's just a few things I've read.

Ranked 35th in his class, wouldn't be a bad pickup that could contribute some but it could bring a big distraction every game that might not be needed. Part of me on the other hand does think it would be cool though to see the Buckeyes be the biggest ticket in college basketball.

Like I said, I have no idea what kind of player he is, there isn't a ton of information on him like on 247 or other scouting sites. Just reading through comments on some places I see some people feel he only has that high of ranking because of his name, if he wasn't Lebron's son some think he wouldn't be ranked that high. It would be interesting to see him come to OSU though and the attention that would get.

James would be a large upgrade over Washington.

Taison Chatman has committed to Ohio State, the #31 overall player in the class for 2023. Two very good back to back recruiting classes.

Now we know why Washington de-committed. They were both on campus for the ND football game. Washington didn't feel warm and fuzzy with Chatman there. A definite upgrade and the Ohio State coaches knew it.

I’d say Holtmann needs to get some big bodies next. Not necessarily a 7’ center but some 6’8 or 6’9 power forwards who can bang inside, rebound, and defend. He got the wings and guards which was needed and the big center in Parks, but in the ‘24 class I’d like to see some bigger power forwards. Or maybe in the transfer portal this off-season if there’s some attrition (which it seems like there always is nowadays).

Just reading this morning that Ohio State offered 6’10 forward Aiden Sherrell, a top 50 player in the ‘24 class.
