Who is replacing Washington and Walker's 26pts a night is my concern. Knowing Brunk has not played since May of 2020 I hope he can provide more than what Towns did after sitting a year before arriving. Better defense may be the key for this season unless they can find some consistent scoring. Meechie will tell you he will. So would Malaki Branham.

I think a bigger key to the season than who is replacing their scoring is just staying healthy. Seems like the last several seasons we have been injury plagued at some point and with key contributors. Just stay healthy and the rest will work itself out. This is a very veteran team that has logged a lot of minutes.

This is a very veteran team that has logged a lot of minutes. The numbers for this roster look like they will be used in a way to help limit those minutes when rest is needed. Ahrens and Brown are being used in the 4 spot when they go small to allow Young rest that he needs. Sueing can play 4 spots on the floor but it took a toll on him last season. Brunk and Key can also get good minutes when Young needs a rest but Liddell scoring will be needed. It may be a bit early for Branham but if he comes along quickly he could be a nice sized physical wing to get some minutes also.

Kyle Young is already out indefinitely due to medical issue. Not Covid related

Kyle Young is already out indefinitely due to medical issue. Not Covid related Vestibular dysfunction which I’ve never heard of until then, sounds kinda like vertigo in a way? But man I feel bad for him, he just can’t stay healthy, whether it’s an ankle, leg, appendicitis, concussion, and now this.

Very lopsided exhibition game but I bet it was good to get new faces to go against. Some young guys played well, but Brunk fouls out in 8 minutes.

Brunk hasn’t played in over a year, all we need from him is some garbage minutes to guard the other teams big guy which we know we had issues with last year. This helps keep Liddell at the 4. Sounds like Brown had a nice game, hopefully he can step his game up this year. Sueing and Young didn’t play.

You have not played for more years than that and I'm sure you could go longer than 8 minutes without fouling out. But if you are right I hope 8 garbage minutes is enough.

I understand the interest with him being 6'11, but his stat history does not show that he has been able to guard Cockburn in the past or the other Purdue Bigs. I hope that he can this year but after having back surgery and taking a year off I have some doubts it will be any better.

I can agree but injuries played a part in the Big 10 tournament game when Liddell was on him that much. I said it before and I will again. I hope you are right but what I have seen so far does not make me excited to have him on the roster. Cockburn plays 25-30 minutes a night and I just don't see Brunk coming off back surgery and a year off being a major factor. He never has been so far but I hope Holtmann can work some magic.

Not even Holtmann thinks he'll be a "major factor", only a dude.

I hope I am wrong.

Ohio State picked up a commit from George Washington III today. He’s a 6’2 combo guard, ranked #50 overall in the country for the 2023 class. Nice pick up for Holtmann, always need solid guards.
Now they’ll need to get some bigs, by that time Key will be a senior and Okpara is the only other true “big” currently committed.

I read Sueing will play tonight and Young is a game time decision.

Well… that’s an interesting way to start the season. One thing I kept telling myself is that this was basically a whole new team tonight… Walker and Washington gone, Young and Sueing not playing, Musa Jallow also gone. Basically all new guys for the most part. But they have some work to do. Getting Sueing and Young healthy will be huge. I can see Branham gaining confidence as the season goes on. Brunk got a few minutes in the first half and had a few nice plays. Russell struggled a bit defensively so we didn’t really get to see much from him.

Yeah two starters not playing so the rotations would be a lot different and that’s a lot of experience not playing. Definitely need more production from the guards. And agreed on Key, I thought he played well last year too and started off great this year.

4-14 from the arc is not good. I still have some concerns about scoring. 11 turnovers was not good either. Specially when they only credit Akron for 4 steals.

Backcourt scoring is a concern. Brunk will help in the paint. Branham looks like a stud in the making. EJ is our top dog and will need to be good most every night for us to win. Basically played without our 2nd and 3rd best players in Young and Sueing(played injured) and Towns who can give us spot minutes. Some productive moments, long way to go though.

Interested in seeing what improvements and or adjustments will be made tonight. Also if Young and Sueing will see good minutes.

I will be courtside for tonight’s game so I’ll give detailed notes. Ha.
But yeah I don’t expect Niagra to be as tough of a match up and expect to see more from the team, now that some of these new and young guys got that first game jitters out of them. Hopefully Young can get on the court a bit.

Guard scoring may be a big problem this season. I see that Wheeler scored 9 which could be a career high for him. I hope he continues to score.

Niagara couldn’t miss from 3, they made a few shots right in front of me where an Ohio State player was literally right in their face. Crazy shooting from them. Still a lot of work to do for this team but I thought they seemed a little more together than first game. Branham is going to be a good one it feels like. And Meechie Johnson will be a very good guard, that little bit of playing time he got last year I think really helped. Another observation from sitting close was how big Eugene Brown is. I always thought he seemed tall on TV but I was surprised seeing him in person.
