Just baffles me that Western Reserve wants to be in a terrible league like the FC. They’d be such a good fit with Margaretta, Huron, Edison, PC and Willard. Why would they want to do that? They have one maybe two tough games a year in the FC. You’re right. Crestview and Western have it made in most sports so why would they leave an easy league.

Western to the SBC Bay and Lucas to the FC. Would be a great fit for both. Western would struggle at first but I think in the long run it would help them compete once they get in the postseason.

I think the FC has become the comfortable league with its members. It's at 8 schools and makes scheduling very easy for everyone and even though 3 schools dominate most sports they are all good and comfortable with it. I also miss the days of the SBC being an 8 school league.

I think I heard something that Vermilion is set to move to the Lake in 2024.

Vermilion is already in the Lake for everything except for football.
Also, I don't think 2024 is a year of change. It's every two years on the odd years.

Burton Berkshire Badgers is a great pick up for Edison. Berkshire went 7-4 in D5 Region 17, Losing in the 1st round of the playoffs like Edison did. Don't know why Edison and Huron couldn't hook up and play a week 4 non conference game, Instead of both us looking for a game. Why couldn't Columbian and Clyde do the same, What's the big deal that they can't play twice in the same season ?

Cardinal Mooney vs. Clyde will take place at Ashland University. I'm a big fan of a neutral site regular season game every now and then when it saves a big travel. Regularly this is a 2+ hour trip for one of these schools. Now each team will travel a little over an hour to play this game on a nice field. Win win for everyone.

I think this begs the question of how this conflict happened in the first place.

What happened to Calvert playing their games at Heidelberg? I remember them doing that for a while in recent years.

What happened to Calvert playing their games at Heidelberg? I remember them doing that for a while in recent years. A couple of people have asked and I've tried to figure it out myself.
For the longest time, Calvert played on Saturday night when Columbian was also at home (same as Fremont and Norwalk with Ross/SJCC and Norwalk/St. Paul). This really stopped around COVID. I think in 2020, Calvert had Saturday home games at 6 p.m., 1 p.m., and 5 p.m. One issue with having Saturday home games is Tiffin University shares the field too. So if you get the random weekend when Columbian, Calvert, and TU are all home, Calvert had to base their Saturday game time on when TU played and I think it got to be a hassle.
Calvert then reached an agreement with Heidelberg for home games on Friday when Columbian was also home. The biggest problem at Heidelberg is there is no real way to keep fans from getting in. There's no gates or fences surrounding and they were losing money.
I don't think Calvert played at Heidelberg last season. Maybe it never happened.
The issue with September 29th/30th is it is Calvert's Homecoming and 100th Homecoming year. I believe the plan is to have a huge celebration on Saturday. With Heidelberg not being an option and obviously not wanting to play Saturday, this is what we've come to.
Of note, when Clyde released their schedule back at the beginning of May, it had them playing Columbian at Heidelberg. I even talked to Judd Lutz about it for a minute and he hoped to still be able to play at Frost-Kalnow. I guess this was the mutually agreed upon decision.
Another of note is Calvert does have a Saturday home game this year, just two weeks prior against Gibsonburg. Tiffin University is away that day, so they can play whatever time they want at Frost-Kalnow. They might have been more OK with that since it's not Homecoming and they got the prime slot on 9/29.

I think this begs the question of how this conflict happened in the first place. SBC is poorly organized, that’s how it happened. It’s not that difficult to avoid scheduling 2 conference games at the same site on the same weekend. Start with Norwalk, Fremont, Sandusky and Tiffin schedules and avoid conflicts. Across all sports there are issues of stupidity with football being the most obvious. Always thought highly of the SBC but then starting following it closely a few years ago and realized it’s a haphazard mess.
