Beat up on the little guys tonight. it hasn't been easy for a couple years. Last year, Norwalk won by a point, and 2 years ago, South Central won by 15-20 and had 4-5 dunks in that game I get it. When you are trying to build the program back up it’s not easy.

I believe they've played only these 3 years. Western Reserve has been a more consistent Firelands opponent

After more research, it's 4 years.
2020 Trojans won by 17 including dunkfest against Truckers
2021 Truckers won by a point
2022 Truckers won by 2 in OT
Tonight Truckers via shed

I think I remember them playing back in 2017so it may be closer to 6 years now. In a normal year, most would question why one of the largest D2 schools in the state is playing such a small D4 school, but if the games are competitive it can work.

Everyone loves to talk about how great the WBL is. There are 8 D2 teams in the WBL. Only Defiance doesn't play a D4. Everyone else plays MULTIPLE d4. The reason. Lots of good d4 teams West of I75 year in and year out. Kalida, Columbus Grove, Crestview, Delphos St. John, St. Henry, Fort Recovery, Botkins, Fort Loramie, Jackson Center, Russia, Marion Local, New Bremen, Minster. I just named a dozen or so without even having to think about it jus from the Putnam County League, MAC and Shelby Co League. Point is, a good game is a good game. And if it can draw a good gate, it's a no brainer. South Central has been one of the elite d4 schools in this area while Norwalk has played them. I don't think you can ever say Norwalk has scheduled soft in recent times. With that being said, the Lameroux's, Sidels and Blairs are now gone and even though I don't think Norwalk is expecting to be great, it may be time for the teams to part ways. Willard did it with Norwalk when they lost 14 or 15 in a row, then brought it back when they could compete again. Perkins should and probably will do the same thing with St. Paul as that game may be pretty lopsided the next few years if they don't.

There is a little difference between a D2 team playing a good D4 team and playing a good D4 program. Being D2 and playing a D4 team over 6 years can be give you a 4-2 or 5-1 result. Playing a good program can give you a 3-3 or 2-4 result. Not many good D2 programs will play a D4 team over and over that is not a good program. On the flip side, how many D2 teams has South Central played for the last 6 years?

Norwalk's series with South Central started the year the SBC started. I would assume it had to do with Norwalk being in a 6 team Division and need to schedule additional non-league games.
The results of games before this year were in order: 65-36, 78-65, 45-62, 42-41 and 57-55 in OT. For the most part a competitive series.

A Norwalk fan and a Reflector writer thought they had a generational program back then. Others knew better. Regardless, when I went to last night's game, trophy and team picture still looked wonderful As an aside, tomorrow marks anniversary when Ontario snapped the streakMost die hard Willard fans are aware of the date as well. lol We're a little like the Miami Dolphins when the last undefeated teams falls in the NFL every year.

Fans will always find something to celebrate, even if it is the misfortune of someone else.. You and I have a different definition of misfortune I guess. To me ... misfortune is better defined as senior who is injured in a preseason contest that results in him or her to loose the ability to compete their entire senior year. That is a misfortune ... not losing. Winning or losing happens every time two teams take to the field of play. Celebrating wins and or losses is part of competing. Currently Willard holds the record for most consecutive regular season wins. A record that will at some point ... get broken ... as most records do. Until that time ... we will celebrate the fact that we do hold the record. We will also celebrate the "misfortune" (as you say) of any team who gets close enough to threaten the record.
On a side note ... the next time I saw Joe Balough, I shook his hand and thanked him for his help in knocking off Norwalk before they could take our record. He laughed and said he was glad to help. I guess Joe was celebrating Norwalk's "misfortune" as well.

A senior injury is truly a misfortune. I was meaning the celebration of another teams loss which I termed their loss as their misfortune. He was celebrating the win, not the continued Willard record. My guess is that record will clearly be around for quite a while.

I know I found solace after Shelby's 13-game win streak was snapped against Marion Harding that the 14-game win streak Shelby had during my senior year remained in tact. It really only applies to the exclusive nature of the class of 2011, but hey lemons lemonade.
