It was a Tressel type win. Don't take chances and play field poaition. I don't know if ND is that good on defense or not. It felt like we made them look better than they really are by the refusal to add creativity to the play calling. How about a boot leg? How about a counter? How about a screen pass to Trey and let him use his speed.
Defense is significantly improved, no question. SO thats the one plus I took from the game. CJ had an off night. Not having JSN must have really hurt him mentally. Xavier Johnson just made a name for himself. Mike Hall X Johnson and Myian were game MVP's imo.

Ohio States defense made progress tonight by shutting down a terrible Notre Dame offense. In recent years stopping anyone at all has been a challenge so credit where it’s due. Strouds refusal to run makes life so much more difficult for OSU offensively. There were some key moments when Stroud could have made some big runs, but pulled up and tossed it. Nobody can say ND has a terrible offense. We witnessed a Jim Tressel style offense from them, that wasn't going to make game altering mistakes and their All-American TE is the real deal. I see a strong similarities to Gronk. Give credit to ND's defense. They had guys in position all night long and played a hell of a game. Ohio State hasn't shown that kind of penetration and disruption in the backfield in many years. With the first game under their belts, with a new system out of it's initial unveiling, this is going to be a fun defense to watch, moving forward.

They have no play makers at WR or RB and Buchner isn’t anything to write home about as a passer. You could see why ND was prowling the portal for transfer QB’s and WR’s in the off season. TE’s good but nowhere good enough to carry that offense. What OSU did do well was playing basic fundamental football on defense for the first time in awhile. For that they deserve credit because it it indeed progress.

They are ranked 5th for some reason but we all know rankings mean very little in Sept.

ND gets ranked high simply for being ND and for no other reason than being ND. The new coach shine and a prime time match up ensured that they’d be extra high this season.

Some of my thoughts.. JSN going out really changed things on offense, just like Ginn in the 2006 title game. When he went out, between losing Wilson and Olave last year they were also without JSN and Fleming. Going WR’s had to step up. Dawand Jones had 3 false starts. There’s talk of him leaving after this year for the NFL. He better clean that up. Mike Hall is a beast. Our defense looked much better. If it weren’t for that one crazy play which led to the TD, they probably would have held ND to no TD’s. Is Stroud a NFL franchise QB? I dunno. Georgia and Alabama are the two best teams right at this moment and a bit of a gap between the next group of teams. Just my opinion after todays games. Who did Bama and Georgia play?

Day will not run Stroud on a bootleg until the U of M game. I don't know how you run a counter with only 1 running back in the backfield and a QB who everyone knows Day won't run. In the first half Day was calling plays based on the assumption that ND would not use the same defense all the time, he adjusted in the 2nd half. In his press conf after the game, he admitted that if teams were going to play 2 high safeties and an extra cornerback all the time, to stop their long pass plays. Ohio State MUST be able to win a low scoring game by throwing short passes and RUNNING the ball. He said he was VERY happy to have to win a game like that.

Utah St and Oregon. I’d put Oregon on the same level as Notre Dame and Georgia demolished them. Again though, I said just right at this moment I think Alabama and Georgia are the top two but that will obviously fluctuate as the season goes on.

We got a taste of the 'new' Buckeye defense Saturday night, 'shutting down' and 'shutting out' ND the entire 2nd half. The fact that coach Knowles said his defense is 75% installed at this point, bodes well for the Buckeyes going forward, as they progress closer to 100%. Of course, 100% will never be achieved, due to coach Knowles creative and innovative genius, adding new plays and concepts.

Joe Burrow wasn't at the LSU game, he was at the Ohio State/ND game.

The defense looked good and the test will be how does that D do all season.
All the talk about a Georgia and Alabama being the head and shoulder best, I don’t disagree. I will however say the Buckeye have never come out strong, they are a gradual team. If this team is healthy at the end of the year, I’ll take the buckeyes odds in beating likes of either SEC team.

Yeah the defense obviously looks better and will be much improved but I’m also not going too crazy yet, I still want to see it against more teams, especially Big Ten teams. ND was starting a new QB and missing a few players on offense I think.

We won't know too much more about this defense until Wisconsin. Penn State Wisconsins offense is terrible but not as bad as Notre Dames but still pretty terrible. The domer’s have mustered up seven points today late into the third against Marshall.

I think we found out today that the Buckeyes do not have elite cornerbacks. ND lost.

That sound you heard this afternoon is the sound of OSU’s strength of schedule swirling the toilet bowl. Looking at ND’s schedule I’m not sure they make a bowl this year.

I mean let’s be honest TTUN first three games is the equivalent of playing junior colleges. I won’t dig them hard because these schedules are planned out years in advance. Let’s however qualm the cheering as one of the best in the country until they get a quality win and yes that goes for the Buckeyes as well.
