Shelby at Pleasant - Shelby rolls in this one. They will be tough for Pleasant to match up with across the board. However, if Shelby can't get the run game going I could see them struggling more than they should in this one.
Highland at Ontario - This one could go either way to me. Highland has a highly recruited RB but they don't seem to be very good as good teams have consistently handled them. This to me is a little bit of a measuring stick for the warriors. I'll take Ontario in this one by a few points, should be one of the top games in the league this week.
Marion Harding at Galion - Galion wins this one close or in OT. Marion Harding had shown some promise last year, but with all the drama to start the season I think that has faded.
River Valley at Clear Fork- CF wins by 3 scores. RV doesn't seem to be able to play much defense. CF continues to improve as well. I look for them to be playing some solid football here in the next few weeks and roll it into the postseason.

MOAC is boring. A lot of these games come off as "who isn't the worse team."
Shelby isn't good, but they are MOAC good. I can see them going 4-3 or 6-1 in league play depending on how the ball bounces. Still a lot of season left for me to change my opinions.
Where is the highly recruited Highland RB being courted? I heard a similar story where Highland had a baseball pitcher had Clemson sniffing around. They never won the KMAC regardless. I can see football being similar. One good kid either inspires other kids to sign up and play or they simply don't. West Holmes strikes me as a situation where the good RB compels others to play ball (I know nothing about their team, I'm throwing blind darts here).
No opinions one way or the other. I'd swing MH here.
The RV vs CF game to me comes down to...who's better, Tiffin or Granville? Both are close to the best teams anyone in the MOAC has grappled with. CF kept it close against Granville, RV got schooled by Tiffin. Based on the available math, CF is better.

A few years later, he was selected in the 7th round of the 2022 MLB draft and signed with the Royals.

I think we all know the MOAC is boring, its actually a pretty uncompetitive league and outside of 2 maybe 3 teams a year is pretty sub par. Honestly, I think Shelby loves being able to be dominant in this league as opposed to them staying the SBC which would be a little challenging. Especially without Artmstrong and that class they had when they were in the SBC. CF also has to finally enjoy being a more dominant team in FB most years after having to slug it out against bigger schools in the OCC. However, this trend may change. But, I'd argue football in the area isn't very good right now outside of maybe a handful of teams. With the expanded playoffs we will get a chance to see if that holds as many teams in the area will have a shot to beat a higher seed week one of the playoffs.

Without question the CF coach loves being a dominant team in the MOAC. When they left the OCC they had a team that could have competed but in the MOAC they went 10-0, and then went 1-1 in playoffs. In 2010 Cf had a team that dominated the OCC and still went 1-1 in their division of playoffs. Fact is their coach wanted an easier regular season schedule because he cannot make playoffs runs regardless of talent. Shelby on the other hand wanted a challenging league but did not enjoy the travels of the new SBC or the design of a mega-league. They wanted in somewhere that had plans to be an 8 team league. They tried to join the OCC but it failed and their next option was the MOAC, which they have immediately found out they are favored in most sports.

I would agree with the Shelby sentiment. I crow a lot about wanting more of a challenge, but Shelby is 1-4 against Lake teams since leaving the SBC. I don't think these past several teams go better than 6-4 if they have to run through the Lake. That being said, it's tedious at times knowing that Bellevue is getting to knock heads with teams that provide a challenge and some suspense. "Are they going to win or not" does a ton for my ability to feel excited about the week. At the end of the day though, rolling out consistent 8-2 type seasons looks much nicer and does feel pretty good, even if it's a paper tiger. Our area definitely underperforms. Outside of a generational Shelby team in 2017, there has been an underwhelming ability to make playoffs and thrive there. Lucas is by far the most impressive team around here based on the games they get and the way they handle teams within a county or two. But hey, I think Richland County track/xc has an argument for statewide aura. That's something

I was in high school during the last year of the 8 team NOL, and we had OCC rumors then. West Holmes said no, and that was that. I thought it was a death wish for any hopeful success if we were to be accepted. These days? I think Shelby elevated themselves a bit and the OCC took a step back at the same time. It could work way better now than before.

I for one would love Shelby in the OCC. Was very disappointed when West Holmes voted no. Funny thing West Holmes traveled to Skiles Field last season. But saying that I think Shelby would still have a hard time with Mansfield Sr., West Holmes, Wooster and Ashland in football year in and year out. The Whippits would be very competitive in basketball.

I actually think Shelby could have been right with Ashland these past few years in football. Calpreps says Shelby goes 3-1 since Armstrong graduated, and Shelby was a top 30 team in Ohio with those Armstrong years, so we could say 5-1 on a different timeline. When we quit playing Ashland, it was more than appropriate. It felt wrong to give up such an annually quality opponent back in 2008, but at the time the situation was demanding it. Your point stands, but is it wrong for a school to make a horizontal league move instead of one that explicitly benefits/hurts them? It would make me feel better about the gonads Shelby people can claim to have with HS sports.
West Holmes traveled to Shelby and blew the lights off of us while the rest of the league had to relinquish CF for MV and eventually New Philly. Hindsight is a beautiful resource, but I think the OCC has plenty of regrets. Who travels better, Shelby or New Philly? MV?
Also, West Holmes vs Shelby girls' basketball would be a battle in the right years.
At the moment, I think Shelby's long-term future in the MOAC is dictated by Highland. If the Dollar Tree distribution center pans out well (apparently Highland's elementary classes are growing), then we could be looking at someone outside of Shelby/Ontario/Clear Fork who work their respective top sports. Highland is already good at baseball from what I've heard, and fans would certainly adopt the MOAC better if you had even one more team that can make you think twice about if it's an L or a dub.

Highland has a top tier Volleyball program. They moved up when they joined the MOAC, Highland currently has 198 to Clear Fork 205. Work on Harding to act like their 425. Of course if they did, most would be running elsewhere.

Of course if they did, most would be running elsewhere. My crime is discounting anything but the money sports in these talks. If I looked deeper into everything else, I think the MOAC becomes more competitive and more compelling for those fans. If I'm a Lex fan, I might feel bummed about football, but the quality of so many other sports would make me feel better. I think I would take a football state title over 4 XC state titles, but either one gives a school a nice pedigree. I personally get joy from seeing a Shelby team crush it in track or advance to districts in baseball/softball, for example. I don't think anyone is rooting against MH. We all want them to start flexing their enrollment into W's on the field. I would rather be competing against a potential giant like them than a Tiffin Calvert. The easy comp is Mansfield. Biggest school in the county (historically), and absurdly talented in the big sports. Mansfield is an interesting case. Their football program has risen commensurately with the decline of their basketball team, even if they defeated my 19-3 Whippets last season in the tournament.

You are right about Lex. Being a Lex grad along with my wife and kids. We are very proud of the success of the overall athletic program. But football is and has been my favorite sport and it's hard to watch Lex football at times. Luckily the Basketball teams are usually pretty good to very good. I think the same holds true with the overall sports programs at Shelby, Ontario and Clear Fork as well. As far as Harding goes I remember when they were very good in the early 2000's when they were a member of the Ohio Heartland Conference. If they were that good now it wouldn't be a pleasant evening for anyone in the current MOAC.

Galion is a team to fear, watching them tonight they can beat anyone. The offense is unstoppable the last two weeks. I am predicting that we will go 8-2 and make a long run in the playoffs

Let me just state what I think you all know on here. That poster does not represent what most Galion fans are thinking right now. The Tigers got a really nice win tonight. They did what this team needs to do to be successful. Pound and pound and pound some more. They wore Upper down last week and did the same to Harding. That being said, neither of those teams are anywhere near the caliber of Clear Fork or Shelby which are the next 2 games. Galion is a young team with only a handful of seniors. They are improving. We will see exactly where they stand against CF and Shelby.

Ooof is MH going to win a game this year? It's definitely brought into question. That close MV game they had looks much more suspect after what Lex did to them. Highland and Ontario aren't world beaters but they haven't been embarrassed by anyone. Pleasant? Pleasant has their number still.
