did anyone see the team scrimmage? Sueing looks better than he did before his injury and the best Freshman was the 6-11 Okpara. He has put on weight, all muscle. He was matched up against Key most of the scrimmage and shut him down blocking a couple of his shots and intimidating him. Rebounded well and put back a couple for baskets. AND did not foul Couldn't ask for more

Holtmann picked up another top 50 recruit in John Mobley today, I believe he is ranked 43 overall in his class. They have definitely been recruiting at a high level lately. They’re not getting top 10 or 20 players but still getting highly rated top 50 players who probably won’t be one and dones which is good to keep team chemistry together. It should be an exciting few years for Ohio State hoops.

Sounds like Kevin McGuff has himself a talented group of ladies, after defeating #4 Tennessee handily.

Sounds like Kevin Mcgough has himself a talented group of ladies, after defeating #4 Tennessee handily. The womens team made a decent run last year in the tournament and almost beat Texas. They return basically everyone this year plus Madison Greene who didn’t even play last year due to injury. Should be a good season for them.

Gonna be a fun and entertaining year!

I'm not a huge fan of women's basketball, but caught a replay of the Ohio State UT game. They are VERY entertaining. They have a 6-4 European post who can shoot 3-pointers and 4 guards. They press and run like no men's team does these days. They've got a combo guard Jacy Sheldon, who is amazing. She had 8 steals against UT and 11 against Boston College. She goes 100 MPH, never stops and rarely comes off the floor.

I thought the buckeyes played decent against a very good SDSU team that has lots of experience. Scoring 77 points against them is pretty dang good, but giving up 88 isn’t. Defense is still a work in progress, but a few of SD’s players seemed like they couldn’t miss. Ohio State got down by almost 20 at one point and cut it to 4. This is great experience for them and can only help down the road. A few more big games in Maui and then games coming up against UNC and Duke, Holtmann is definitely testing this young team.

Nice win by Ohio State over Cincinnati. The competition level was a notch below San Diego but still a good overall game by the Bucks. Sensabaugh gets all the talk for the freshmen but the player I think is the most complete from that class right now is Thornton. He seems to just always be under control, plays good defense, doesn’t turn it over. I’ve liked what I’ve seen from him so far this year.
Tanner Holden seems to be still trying to adjust to this level a bit from Wright State and Roddy Gayle still getting acclimated to college too it seems.

I agree with what you said but I am concerned why a 5th year senior is shooting 11 shots a game when only shooting 38% and tossing up 3 shots a night behind the arc when only connecting on 16%.

I’m going to give Sueing the benefit of the doubt for now considering everything he’s been through, hopefully he can get back to his old self sooner rather than later. For the teams success they’ll need him to step up.

For the teams success they’ll need him to step up. He has been through a lot but during that time he was still in the gym shooting and staying as active as he could. It's not like he missed a season on the couch. I attended two practices while he was out last season and he still ran a few drills and did shooting but when in full contact he rode the stationary bike. 29% means he needs improvement. 16% means stop shooting. LOL

We all know shooting in drills and shooting during a game going 100% is completely different so I’ll give him a little longer to get more game reps. His shot is definitely not good right now, no doubt. Let’s see how it plays out over the next few weeks.

I’m not sure how I feel about this flop technical now. I like the idea of trying to get actual flops out of the game, but there are times where guys do get enough contact where they may be a little off balance and there’s enough force to get them to fall and that’s going to be called a flop. Anyone that has played the game knows how easy it can be to get a little off balance and not able to keep yourself up.

Solid win over #21 Texas Tech and finish the tournament 2-1. That’s a really good start to the season. Sueing must have been reading this site, what a game by him. His outside shot is still not great but did look a little better today. In these three games in Maui, Ohio State scored 77, 81, and 80 points. That’s some really good offense in 3 straight days. Also perfect at the free throw line today.
Sensabaugh won’t get more minutes until he defends better. At around the 9 minute mark of the second half, he checked in and gave up 2 straight baskets on back to back possessions. There was a time out after the second bucket and he got subbed out and never came back in.

LOLOL

With the athletes Holtmann finally has he's allowing more one one one action out of a rather basic motion offense. And much more rebound and get out in transition than in the past, with his guards and depth. No more rebound and walk it up the floor and run set plays. All of which translates to more points. We'll see how that will work against the top of the Big Ten. Also having a 6-11 shot blocker coming off the bench to spell Key this year sure helps and is a definite change up from Key. IMO he's the biggest surprise this year, I thought it would take a year before he would contribute at this level.

I remember reading some articles over the summer where people were saying that there’s a possibility Tanner Holden laves after this season for the NBA. He’s going to have to drastically improve if that’s the case, he didn’t even get any minutes in the first half.

The #4 ranked Ohio State Buckeye Women, blew out Wright State last night 105-52 to remain undefeated. They will host N. Alabama Sunday 1 p.m., before traaveling to Louisville for the ACC/B1G Challenge. This is an exciting team to watch, with several players leading the nation in several categorys.

Jake Diebler is in charge of the offense this season. Bringing a little more quick tempo should make it more enjoyable to watch. You can tell it’s gonna ugly at times but you can also see like Vs TT and UC we can win some games this year.

You can tell it’s gonna ugly at times but you can also see like Vs TT and UC we can win some games this year. I would like to see more aggressive defense, that is seldom seen in college ball these days. It pairs up well with an aggressive, up tempo offense. Creating chaos at both ends of the floor. That was the Diebler trademark at both Fostoria and Upper Sandusky, back in the day. The same concept works on the college level, but I see a lot of lazy defense being played in today's college game. The game can elevate to that level with the right personnel, can be an endline to endline game. John Wooden understood that, better than anybody, as he built the greatest dynasty in college basketball history of the concept.

This is nowhere near as talented of a team Duke has had compared to past years. I've watched a couple of their games and some of their high-end recruits like Derrick Lively don't pass the eye test and Dariq Whitehead coming off a foot injury isn't getting any run right now for Duke. Ohio St can absolutely go into Cameron and beat Duke Wednesday.

I would also add that Jon Scheyer isn't Mike K, while he may have knowledge of the game he won't be able to just step right in and keep things going at the same level overnight. This is his first head coaching experience so he's going to face some bumps along the way.

Holtmann is in a tough spot with Sensabaugh. They need him on the floor for his offense and scoring ability. But at the same time his defense is atrocious, misses a lot of assignments on defense, and a lot of times never boxes out on rebounds.
