Good win for the Buckeyes at a critical time, against a ranked team. This will boost their confidence going into the heart of the schedule. Iowa wasn’t ranked but I understand what you’re saying. I'd rather play Iowa then another Alabama St Tech A&M school.

Ohio State gets less out of their talent than any B1G team. Or, maybe the talent just isn't there. I don't know but as Jared Sollenger tweeted., they appear disconnected and disinterested

That Iowa game breath of fresh air didn’t last long. They’re lucky they only lost by 9 when they were down almost 20 at some points.
Key just hasn’t been the same player with all the injuries. It’s unfortunate because he had been playing pretty well before that. I also read that Okpara had a walking boot on after the game so that’s not good.

Holtmann's teams always seem to have more injuries than the norm

Something is definitely off with this team and it seems to have been that way since the UNC loss. I hate to say it but I had to turn the channel last night. It was like watching a middle school team. Simple mistakes that players at major D1 schools shouldn’t make. Ball handling, bad passes, poor shot selection, no defensive rotation. I didn’t want to blame the coaches initially for those problems cause they’re not the ones on the floor doing this. But I think everyone in the program needs to look in the mirror and do some soul searching. The train is running off the tracks. And believe me recruits will see this.

In most cases same coaches as the past, but a lot of new players this year. Mostly Freshman and Portal players. Works for the likes of a Kevin Sampson, but not a squeaking clean Chris Holtmann

Likekele looks like a fullback and shoots like a linebacker.

Espns latest bracketology has Ohio St as one of the first 4 teams out of the field. Need to string some wins together to get off that bubble.

It was difficult watching these Buckeyes mumble & fumble through this game with Indiana. A team should not be playing this poorly, at this point in the season. Indiana and Ohio State were stark contrasts to one another. The Hoosiers appear to have a team chemistry, understand the nuances of the game and play with confidence and focus.

I’m trying to stay positive with this team but it does get hard sometimes. It’s still obvious that Key is just not the same player since his shoulder injury. And Sueing seems to be a huge funk. Thornton has hit a wall, he is still playing ok but not like he was early on in the season. Likele I’m trying to understand, he seems to do a lot of little things but just really struggles to score. Sensabaugh is just playing for draft position at this point. Looking at the rest of the schedule there’s a pretty good chance they don’t make the tournament.
And then Kalen Etzler and Bowen Hardman should probably just transfer eventually, it’s obvious they aren’t going to play ever so if they want college careers, they should probably try to do it somewhere else.

The quality of the roster just isn’t very good. With Key and Eugene Brown being the only two guys from last season’s rotation back,,, it just made this season a transitional year and the three portal transfers were just ok. Dare say Holden has been a huge disappointment as I expected a lot more from him. The other two were guys who were glue guys and not leaders in scoring types . Though both have flashed decent moments . At present we have a disjointed roster rotation that seems to be getting worse . Holtman will be given another year to fix it but I’m resigned to this season being a rebuilding year .

Regarding Tanner Holden, I went and looked at his recruiting profile from high school and it doesn’t look like he had very many offers at all, OU and Wright St were about the only ones. I think maybe we’re seeing why. Not that the recruiting services are always right but he wasn’t even ranked by any of them. His skill level just doesn’t appear to be right for this level of play.
I do still think Holtmann gets another year like buckeyekid said, due to this being such a strange year with all the new pieces.

IMO Holtmann gets more than a year. Gene Smith would have to admit he made a mistake. IF he has. He doesn't like doing that

i don't think he could get Ohio State to play like he, his brother and pops did at Upper.
Maybe dad and John could be assistants?

I don’t even know what to say right now. This is just hard to watch and stay positive. It’d be really interesting to see what it’d be like if they had held on and beat Purdue. I’ve been saying they give Holtmann another year but if this season just completely falls apart, I’m not so sure of that anymore.

They’ve got some good individual players but just not a good team. It’ll be interesting to see how many more games they win this year at this points, it’s not looking good. Some of the freshmen have hit that “freshman” wall and Sensabaugh is thinking NBA at this point, and Key just needs to get healthy.

The Ohio state women have been getting trounced lately too, losing by 36 today. And that’s with Sheldon back too.

I see College Basketball analysts saying the grass isn't always greener on the other side and that Buckeye fans should be cautious of wanting to fire Holtmann because between Butler and here he has a 188-99 record and has given Ohio St a tournament birth every year he has been here. Is a tournament berth the standard here at Ohio St? Ohio St fired the greatest coach they ever had in Thad Matta because they saw a decline for 4 years. Holtmann hasn't finished higher than 4th in the Big Ten since 2018 and he hasn't reached the second weekend of the big dance once here. And the last 3 Coaches the Buckeyes have had have all at least reached the elite 8 and the program went to 3 final fours during that span between those 3 coaches. Ohio St basketball is top 10 in yearly revenue they can find another coach much better than this joke of a coach Holtmann.

I am not defending Holtmann with this statement, but what top level coach wants to come to Ohio State? Has OSU ever been a magnet for the top college coaches in the country. A tough part of being an Ohio State basketball fan is making sure we understand where we fit in right now. If we pay a coach the top salary in the country, do we have the fan support to cover it? If we pay the a coach a top salary, do we have the Boosters to pay the NIL to get the top players? Do players want to live in Columbus?
