Galion beat BV tonight 5-4 in 9 innings. I honestly thought we were going to lose that game once our right fielder let that ball go over his head. But we gritted it out and won. It honestly shouldn't have been that close in my eyes. We had the bases loaded at one time with no outs..scored "0". We are a small ball team, probably bunted 6 times in the game, but WHY-O-WHY do you have your #3 hitter who crushes the ball with one out try a bunt squeeze with a runner on 3rd?? That's crazy. It didn't work. Ball rolled about 3 feet in front of the plate and runner was thrown out by the pitcher. We played solid. Center fielder made a running catch in the outfield to save the game in the 8th. The last inning they had a runner on 3rd with one out, but they couldn't score him to tie the game and send it to the 10th inning.
The umpire was atrocious, but at least he was bad for both sides. ha! His strike zone was all over the place. I thought for sure their manager was going to get throw out. Too funny! Well all I have to say is "Go Tigers!!!" We needed that win to start things off. We used our 2 best pitchers tonight, so we will see who we pitch Friday against RV.

They still played really well without him. Even better with him. But it's spring break. He has a vacation plan with family then he can take it. He already has a punishment. He won't be sat out any games tho. Just has to do some tasks. But yeah spring break, so it's not a "weak" move.

The "family" knew damn well it was baseball season when they made the plans. So yes it was a weak move.

The "family" knew damn well it was baseball season when they made the plans. So yes it was a weak move. The weak move is the punishment by the coach if all he has to do is some tasks. Rule at Alder during spring break, for each game you miss, you sit 2 games. But I've heard other programs don't even punish guys for missing. Pleasant had a couple out last night due to spring break vs. Alder. Pitchers duel last night, Alder won 4-2. Alder's #1 threw a 1 hitter and fanned 9, 2 past balls scored Pleasant's runs. Alder only had 4-5 hits, not a stellar performance for the offense. Going against the Newark Catholic tonight who won the state last year, better have there "A" game on both sides if they want the win.

I understand there are at least a couple others who passed on vacation to play with their team. But I guess when you can hit... I heard, but don't know if it's true, that the seniors determined the punishment.

Team did decide, they didn't want him to miss games cause of his importance. And of course he can hit. Went 2-3 against old fort with a home run. Hit one off the fence at Shelby. Yeah no doubt he can hit.

BVs 1-2 are both out. Kid that came in relief is around #6 for BV. Galions 1 is pretty good.

Yeah! Their #3 was ok. Our #1 was having control issues all night. He's was getting behind on a lot of BV hitters. That was our #1 and #2, I think. We have a couple other decent pitchers. But #3 or #6, the game should have been a blow-out for Galion. We scored 3 in the first off your #3. I don't know how we would have fared against your #1 or #2. All our players play. haha! Well except my son.....waaaaa! LOL

Harding beat Kenton 2-0. Sophomore with not much varsity expierence through like a single hitter I think. Some nice grabs to save em. Now 4-1

I have an issue with the Harding coach. If it's a spring break sponsor by and passed by the board members than the kid should not be punish by the coach. Who is in charge of the kid certainly not the coach. If the kids parents said they are going on vacation then he has that right to go without having to worry about if he is going to punish for it. The head coach knew when spring break is so he should not have schedule any games that week. If this was my kid I would have then I would have given all the bills like hospital, clothing, grocery's, gas and auto maintenance and any others that I will find and give it to the coach and say if you think you can say or not say what my son can do or not then here it is now pay me back all that money that I spent on him. I did that to one coach just because my son missed weight lifting during the summer because he was elected to attend BUCKEYE BOYS STATE and he missed more because he was trying to join the NATIONAL GUARD. A coach has no right to tell you he has to stay because of sports or he will be punish.

First of all, the athletic director makes the schedule, not the coach. Second, the coach didn't tell anyone they couldn't go on vacation. And if you read through the posts, you would see that the player who did go on vacation isn't missing any playing time. But I do believe that when you commit to a team, you should make every effort to be there through a relatively short season.
I think the Harding coach is a good guy who truly cares about the kids and wants to do right by them.

I wouldn't have a problem with a kid missing a game...now a week, I might question the kid's commitment to the sport. If you are team is dependent on one kid, you just might not have that great of a team. River Valley is the next up for us tonight, if it doesn't get rained out. It's 0212 now and steady raining, so we will see. GO TIGERS!!!

Reading some of these posts about players missing games or practice for that matter, and the majority of opinions regarding "not having a problem with it", "shouldn't schedule games during Spring Break" makes me want to vomit.....
"You know what makes me sick to my stomach? When I hear grown people say that kids have changed. Kids haven't changed. Kids don't know anything about anything. We've changed as adults. We demand less of kids. We expect less of kids. We make their lives easier instead of preparing them for what life is truly about. We're the ones that have changed." - Frank Martin - South Carolina Mens BKB Coach
You make a commitment to anything in life, you honor that commitment. Makes me sick to read some of the latest things on this thread...
On another note, in regards to Coach McCreary..... do yourself a favor and deal with demographics that he deals with daily and mix that with his passion not only for the game, but for the young men that he gives everything to and then pass judgement. While I may not agree with the player in question not having to miss additional games for not honoring his commitment of being a part of a TEAM, certainly doesn't tarnish the opinion of a coach that I have watched from afar and admire for what he does and the pieces he has to work with.
RANT OVER

RANT OVER I agree with you on this. I couldn't believe how many people acted like the coach was in the wrong for disciplining the kid... "shouldn't schedule games during Spring Break", what about basketball games during Christmas Break? What about games/practices on the weekend? Just because the school doesn't have classes does not mean you don't have to show up for your athletic events. These kids aren't forced to play these sports but if they choose to then they need to honor the commitment like everybody else and face the discipline for breaking team rules. From what I've read on here, neither the parent nor the kid has complained so why is everybody else. As long as the coach informed them beforehand that this would happen then it is not a big deal.

What about football games scheduled on Labor Day Weekend? What about basketball games scheduled during Christmas break? Some Churches won't allow playing in high school sport contests on Fridays or Saturdays.
One year I saw a head basketball coach allow 3 players in his rotation go on vacation with their parents to Florida from 12/26 until after New Years day, missing a week and a half of practice and 2 games.

BV and Pl end 1-1 after 6. Game called. BV left a village on the bases. Left them loaded no outs in 5th. Had 2 on in 3rd no outs. And 2 on with one out another inn. Didn't score a run. It's hard to watch. BV is station to station. Didn't try to steal until 6th to see what catcher had and made it easy. When you can't hit or score have to take chances every now and then but we've seen this before. PL also left a few on as well.

Alder gets by River Valley last night in the rain 7-3. Game was tied at 2-2 top six, RV left a runner on with 1 out at 3rd base. Alder hits 3 extra base hits in the bottom of the 6th to break the game open. Swick goes the distance. Alder moves to 4-0.

When I showed up game was already called for lightning. But 8 runs I'm thinking they batted well, unless walks. But yes they're rolling.

Harding's lead-off batter had a couple of nice hits including one to the fence in left. DH I think had a hit to the fence as well. RVs defense struggled a bit.

Alder/North Union suspended in top of the 6th. Alder leading 9-4. I suspect they will finish the next time they meet in a couple of weeks at there place. Alder's lineup continues to produce runs, North Union CF Davis made a couple of great web gems to keep the game within striking distance late. Alder was sloppy on defense, around 5 errors in the infield early on, cleaned it up after the 2nd inning, was pretty good back and forth early on until the defense improved and North Union's hitters cooled off.
Almost saw my 1st HR on Alder's field last night, my son hit one 350 to left center. Of course it was right before the storm was about to hit and the wind blowing out to left had stopped. I think our 1st baseman, who was a senior last year, had a grand slam last year, but I missed it unfortunately. Not many have been hit one out on that field, or so they say.
Weather not looking good the next 2 days. Hope we get to play Saturday, Friday doesn't look promising.
